Picked this up at Ramey's in Collins, Mississippi when I was down that way not too long ago. This wasn't the first beer that I had from Chandeleur Island but it was the first that I obtained myself and it wasn't a bad take on the style, although the pineapple was much more muted than I anticipated.

This had a hazy, golden hue to it as enough wavy head topped it off. Lots of bubbly streams came up through the liquid as the lacing left behind was extensive as tons of spots filled in the gaps between the deep and softly wavy rings. Lots of wheat in the nose along with bread, cracker, sweet fruit, and yes, some muted pineapple as the taste was just as gentle and easygoing. Not acrid or dank, this had a nice softness to it with a full body and a moderate amount of carbonation. A good, but subtle, amount of fall and stone fruit was here as this felt more like juice than beer - which wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

Much of that had to do with the lack of overt alcohol as this was the ideal session beer. Only in the aftertaste did the heavy-handed nature of the pineapple and hops emerge, which made this feel more like an IPA on the back end. Dated 4/2/22 on the label, this was indeed old but held up well over the last 11 months. For the Magnolia State, this was an enjoyable offering perfect for days on a bayou, gulf, or tailgating at The Grove. Props to these guys for keeping the syrup, fillers, and fruit juice out of this!

Maybe it's the pineapple talking, but damn, do I like this beer...

Great orange coloration with thin foam, the smell of this beer is pure pineapple - of the sweetest kind. This translates quite well to the taste as the light hoppy flavor blends about as perfect as anything can with the pineapple added during fermentation (as stated on the can.) The mouthfeel is also impressive as I found it to be both crisp and carbonated, as well as thick - a combination I don't recall within recent memory experiencing.

This brewer is out of Mississippi, I think I'll be keeping an eye out for their other offerings moving forward.

12 ounce can into pint glass; no can dating, but is a recent local release. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/lightly tart pineapples, fruit skin, lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of banana, clove, peppercorn, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of pineapples, fruity/spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/lightly tart pineapples, fruit skin, lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of banana, clove, peppercorn, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; peppery yeast spiciness; and light fruit/wheat tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of lightly tart pineapples, fruit skin, lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, banana, clove, peppercorn, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of pineapples, fruity/spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness and tart/tangy fruit balance; with no astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness, tart/tangy fruit, and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/sticky, and lightly acidic/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a delicious fruited pale wheat ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of pineapples, fruity/spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Great balance of juicy pineapples, clean pale/wheat malts, and American wheat yeast complexity; with nice earthy hop presence/balance. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive style example.

From the can into a weizenbier glass, it pours amber color with a nice head, soon diminishing to a thin layer and leaving no lacing. Pineapple in the nose definitely. The same for the mouth as well. In addition, the mouth gets some malt as well. Lovely for a hot Louisiana day!

Chandeleur Brewing Company "Surfside Wheat Ale"
12 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating

Notes via stream of consciousness: It has the appearance of a German-style hefeweizen, cloudy and orange-ish beneath a tall head of creamy white foam. The aroma is sweetish and candy-like. I don't particularly get pineapple out of it, but it's like a fruity hard candy, and for some reason raspberry keeps coming to mind. On to the flavor... well there's some pineapple there but that sweet, sugary candy flavor is there as well - not that that's a bad thing, I'm just noting it, and in fact, I'm glad that it's not got a heavy pineapple flavor. There's some wheaty maltiness to it, and a minimal bitterness, but also some tartness that keeps it in check. It's very nicely balanced in the end, and refreshing. In the mouth it's light bodied and crisply effervescent. Nicely done!

Surfside has a very thick, creamy, spongy, white head, a hazy, bubbly, gold appearance, with fairly heavy glass lacing. Aroma is of banana Now & Later, citrus, and bread. Taste is similar, with sugar and white bread crust. There is also an acidic sting. Mouthfeel is medium and fluffy, and Surfside finishes medium dry.

12 oz can, no date, 4.8% alcohol, poured into connecticutpoet's lovely Powder Hollow 16 oz pint glass; Pours a hazy light honey color with a fluffy fizzy head of 3 fingers, dwindling to a finger eventually. Sparse sparse lacing up the sidewalls.

Aromas of freshly cut pineapple, pineapple candy, orange marmalade, hay, faint floral hop, and more pineapple candy.

Flavor starts with a nice balance of grassy hop and sweet, clean, sugary malts. It's actually very well balanced. The pineapple comes much later, near the finish, and it's sort of seltzer-like but there's still some residual sweetness there. Finishing notes of grass, citrus, pineapple, and tin.

Feel is a touch over-carbonated though I don't know how long I let this can sit or how long it had been sitting before my purchase. Crisp finish, mild lingering starches.

Overall a pretty decent wheat beer, nothing incredible though.

Look: opaque hazy gold, little bit of sediment, light white head
Smell: pineapple and wheat (unsurprisingly)
Taste: lots of fruit (pineapple, citrus), spice, and wheat. Good balance of sweet and tart flavors
Feel: medium body, moderate carbonation, good creamy mouthfeel

Pretty much exactly what it says on the can and well executed. Tartness was unexpected but a nice addition.

It pours a cloudy light yellow with a small foamy head. The smell is a mild pineapple with some wheat also coming in to. The taste is a dry tart taste but still enjoyable. The pineapple does come throughout the drink. Overall a nice summer drink.
