Had on tap served in tulip shaped glass

Appearance – Pours a haze orange/golden color with a nice white head. The head fades slowly giving away to the very slightest bit of lacing.

Smell – Yeasty and sweet are the first detected; yeast cake and sweet fruits of orange and a bit of tropical mango and some banana are present. Then a bit of bready maltiness works its way through the aroma, with the whole aroma rounded out by a light alcohol/boozy aroma.

Taste – The taste is very similar to the smell only in a different order. As opposed to the aroma, the first taste detected was a bit more breadiness with some biscuit flavor. The yeasty flavor, present throughout, stays while the bread flavor fades giving way to a sweeter taste profile of mango, orange and banana. Like the smell however the whole taste experience finishes with a nice mild alcohol flavor rounding it all out.

Mouthfeel – A nice creamy body with a good level of carbonation. A good slow drinking/sipping beer; perfectly matched to its alcohol content.

Overall – While not the best Belgian triple I have ever had, very enjoyable none the less. Nothing stands out, but nothing brings it down; overall moderately balanced.

A - Served with a hazy, yet bright, golden body...the head was about one finger tall and was white in color...light, wispy retention and light lacing

S - Banana, clove, some honey, and yeast...your typical aromas from a tripel

T - The flavors come together a bit better as you sip...at first you're presented with a creamy banana flavor...it adds a little sweetness and combines with honey sweetness...the middle of the beer has the yeast flavor present along with your Belgian spices...the spices linger into the finish

M - Medium bodied...spicy finish (clove and pepper) with some creamy banana sneaking in

O - This was a decent tripel...nothing too exciting from the nose...but the flavors and finish came together nicely

First had: on tap at Eulogy, Philly, PA

Poured a slightly hazy golden-orange, with a fluffy white head. Aroma of biscuity pale malts, banana esters, and light sugars. Pretty typical for a tripel. Bready taste, yeasty, infused with malt sweetness, banana and apple skin, with light sensations of clove and pepper coming in later. Medium mouthfeel, chewy, and pretty drinkable for the style.

Poured a misty bright orange color with 1 finger of white foamy/creamy head that remained throughout the beer.

The scent was of yeast, sugar and banana.

The taste was very sweet, there was belgian yeast, banana, some citrus, and some spices. The alcohol was not as apparent for 9%.

Light bodied, very smooth and creamy, low carbonation.

A pretty good beer, good flavor though not a lot really stood out for me. But it was very refreshing and very easy to drink.

Served in a stemmed Tulip glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: As served the beer is a slightly orange/golden color with a ½" white head that recedes slowly and stays around for at least the first half of the beer. The are nice sheets of foam on the sides of the glass and surface, along with a ring of foam around the glass. Sipping leaves lots of nice lacing and sheets of foam for at least the first half of the beer, and beyond.

Smell: The aroma has a nice yeasty character along with some orange, spice, banana and a touch of alcohol. The things that stand out are sweet pale malt and a banana and fruity character.

Taste: The flavors include banana, sweetness and some bready character from the malt, along with the alcohol, all combined with touches of orange zest and the light caramel malt. There are also some touches of spices and alcohol here as well.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is medium-full bodied, smooth and filled with gentle persistent carbonation. The finish is moderately long and ends mostly with the alcohol.

Drinkability: A nice solid well made beer worth drinking again even though its not at the top of my list of triples. While it lacks a certain subtle complexity found in the triples I prefer (e.g., La Fin du Monde, Westmalle) it is a well-made worthwhile beverage that I'll probably be sipping on tap again one day.b

I had this ontap at Stoudts Black Angus Brew Pub in Adamstown, PA. It came in a stemed small water glass
Appearance: The body is a cloudy light orange color. The head is a bright white color, a finger tall, stellar retention, nice thick lacing and small bubbles.
Smell: The aromas are yeasty, muted notes of berrys and sparge.
Taste: The flavors are orange, zesty and yeast esters.
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is thick and smooth.
Drinkability: This beer is very drinkably.
Don't drink and review.

Pours a beautiful yellow-golden with a fairly thick white head. Aroma is not strong but malty and rather fruity, mainly apple or pear. Malty flavor has a firm undertone of fruit, almost like a ribbon of cider through the beer. Texture is pleasingly smooth and quite tingly and jazzy.

On tap at Black Angus/Stoudts Brewery:

Served an opaque dark golden with a very thick, dense white head with very good retention. Nice lacing as well. Minimal carbonation steaming to the top.

Aroma is good. Nice balance of malt and Belgian sugar sweetness. A hint of alcohol was noticeable as well.

Taste is very good. Slightly sweet. Slight touch of alcohol, but barely noticeable. It also had a nice spice to it, could not really distinguish it though.

The beer has a medium body, smooth, creamy and very easy to drink, especially given the higher ABV. Carbonation feels a bit light for a Belgian. Overall a very good beer.

Appearance: Cloudy yellow - almost like a witbier. Two fingers of white head - mild lacing

Smell: Coriander, Lemon peel, Honeysuckle, white Pepper

Taste: White pepper, honey, strong cinnamon like Goldschlager

Mouthfeel: Creamy but not in a bad way - Full bodied tripel with an implied alcohol zip/essence.

Drinkability: Sipper for me - I can't session these Belgians Tripels/Quads. This beer is awesome on tap. Not overly carbonated like a Tripel Karmeliet. Not filling either. I highly recommend this beer as a prime example of a Belgian Style Tripel

On tap at Max's today.

The beer pours a hazy honey color with good head retention and very good lacing. The nose is interesting, consisting of honey, butter and even some underlying bitterness. The flavor on the palate generally replicates the nose, except that it's a bit sweeter then I would like. The beer has a medium bodied mouthfeel, and is fairly soft and smooth on the palate. The alcohol is pretty well disguised, but the sweetness is just a bit much for me, and I think detracts from this beers drinkability.

Still a pretty good beer, but not sure how often I'd want to have something like this.

Off the tap at the American Flatbread debut event this beer was a deep gold color. The head was thin and white, it left some decent lacing but didn't retain very well. The aroma was semi-sweet and spicy, Belgian yeast and ripe fruits. The flavors however were not so impressive. Too many alcohol esters and too much fruit sweetness that only became more apparent as the beer warmed up. Hints of spiciness were pleasant but the lack of hop balance added to my issues. The 9% was well hidden, however. The mouthfeel was good, the carbonation pleasant and the body medium/full.

On-tap at Liberty St. Tavern. Served in a goblet, it appears slightly hazy golden with a short, white head.

This is typical Americanization of a Belgian style, where the brewers make the beer too sweet and the esters too big, leaving a beer that lacks subtlety. Still, the flavor has a pleasant mix of apple and berry punch flavors with a bit of peppery spice. And the 9% alcohol is well hidden. The sweetness, however, will keep me from going back for another glass.

Served on-tap at the brewpub in a tulip-like glass.

A: The ale is a hazy yellow lemonade (sans the thick pulpy sediment) color with a thick 1 finger head on pour. The head quickly recedes.

S: Aroma-wise, the ale is heavy on candi sugars. There are also noticeable hops that cut the sweetness up.

T: The ale has a strong, nuanced flavor. Lots of candi sugar is present, adding a dry fruity flavor that shows off touches of apple (this time yellow or red but not tart green apples). Cereal grains provide a touch of relief from the sweetness, as do the sporadic flashes of hop bitterness. The sugars also add a burnt licorice flavor that mixes with some peppery coriander. Oh yeah, the booziness of the ale is quite evident as well.

M: The ale is manic in its flavor profile, never content to stick to one solid element. The licorice is a pleasantly strong flavor (although it is not on the level of Troegs Scratch 10).

D: At 9%, the booziness of the ale hits you square in the forehead. Go for two if you have a DD.

a: This is a cloudy golden yellow. So cloudy in fact, it is almost opaque. It was served to me with a medium sized foamy white head.

s: A bit strong on the wheaty banana and alcohol smells. However, aromas of spicey pepper and floral hops help save the day.

t: If I was scoring to style I would probably have to go a bit lower. But since they call it a "triple", I can give it the score it deserves. This is a high octane refresher that tastes of sweet bananas, wheat, and some peppery yeastiness.

m: This is much less fizzy than most American versions of Belgian style beers. Big points for that.

d: I like this one a lot and it's one of the few beers my girlfriend loves. This is the main reason she agrees to go to Stoudt's with me.

Served on tap at Stoudt's Brewery in Adamstown, PA.

Hazy orange gold body. Very cloudy look, almost like an Orange Julious. Head is thick and bubbly, though it is gone almost immediately.

Alcohol noticable in the nose. Sweet and sour aroma of fruits and spices.

Flavor is very spicy. Belgian spices and heavy on the pepper. Alcohol is evident, fruits secondary to heavy spicing. As far as tripels go I enjoy a bit more sweetness, and a bit more reserved with the spices. Still, this is a good tripel.

Overall very good. I had this on tap at Stoudt's. It as served in a pint glass. It was a cloudy oragne color with half inch white foamy head. It had a fruity smell and flavor. Got to find this beer on tap. It pours a deep, clear amber color with a thin white head. The aroma is purely Belgian with the hint of spices, and fruits such as bananas, kiwis, and raisins.

This is a very smooth and balanced tripel. The atringent spice flavor found in most of the American brewed tripels is not present here. The malt backbone is prevelant, and balances the drink nicely. Mouthfeel is full and creamy. This is certainly a drinkable beer, but at 9% you'll start to feel it pretty quickly. Stoudt's ale isn't going to quite give true trappist tripels a run for their money, but it is the best American version of the style I've tried.

This beer poured a hazy yellowish orange color. Nice clean white head that dissipated rather quick with a mild lace. Smell is very fruity and floral. There a certain hints of banana and caramel in the nose. Some presence of pale malt and a strong dough like yeast scent. Quite a complexity of fruit tones mixed in. Taste is smooth and mild. Lots of banana up front with a mild tone of yeast and a hop mix in the aftertaste. Very dough like, hides the alcohol rather well with no real strong over powering alcohol flavor. Very enjoyable with lots of changing flavors tones of plum and raisin mild caramel and lots of other essence. Maybe some light lemon hints. Quite drinkable but still can take some getting used to the flavor. Not for everyone's pallet. Still packs quite a punch form the ABV.

This tripel poured a hazy, reddish amber color with tan foam that settled to a thin coat on the surface of the beer. The smell was malty with a typical but light Belgian tripel aroma. There was a slight sweet tanginess in the smell. The taste was Belgian and malty with quite a pronounced sweetness, almost sugary, and a touch of tanginess. The hops were moderate. The mouthfeel was sweet with medium-full body and modes carbonation. The sweet malty flavor lingered. This was an OK tripel, but a bit overly sweet.

Served in a pint glass, which probably wasn't the best, but I suppose I was getting more in a pint than I'd get in another glass, so I didn't say anything to the bartender.

Appearance: Seemingly darker than most tripels I've had. Usually it's more on the lighter side of yellow, but this has some brown and amber in it. I think from the tap it was also maybe too cold, so there's hardly any head on it at all.

Smell: Definitely some Belgian yeast, candi sugar, banana, bread notes, sweet malt, and a lot of hops, which was pleasantly surprising.

Taste: This is pretty boozy-feeling for a tripel, especially as it warms. Also it's a fairly different representation of the style. The yeast and banana and sweet notes are there, but there's also a pretty crazy amount of hops, and also a bit of sourness. I chalk that up, I hope, to Stoudt's trying something a bit different and making their own version rather than trying to match something like Westmalle. But I like what they've done with it; little twists, moderately, and done well, on a style such as this can be quite good.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thick without being cloying or anything like that. The body has a pleasant fullness to it.

Drinkability: I had a pretty good buzz after just a pint, which I suppose makes sense due to the ABV, but I enjoyed it and I'd sure have it again if I see it on tap. Haven't had it in a bottle yet, though, either.

Pours dark brown, caramel with not much head. Only a smidgen of carbonation. Moderate lacing. They put it in a pint glass for me, though, was a little offended. Nose is rather lacking, raisiny, bready, malty. Taste is also a bit less than I expected. It's good that you don't taste the alcohol, but the rest is all just toned down as well. Sugary fruits (raisins, etc), malts, all proper components there. Balance was a bit off as well. Too sweet and grainy. Overall, I was not so impressed, but I think that it was partially due to the wrong glassware.

Appears deep bronze honey color thin white head leaves absolutely no lacing down the chalice seems way undercarbonated. Smells very sweet and boozy at this point I was used to trying Stoudt's Triple when it was effervescent and a bit more refined, some heavy tropical fruit soaked in alcohol tones coming through mild touch of hops evident. Tastes vinous deep rich maltiness some evident bitterness lacks dimensions of a great triple style ale seems to be fruity sweet with alcohol and mild hops not enough layers for me have any Belgian tripel over this brew. Texture was syrupy really needs some work in my opinion, I hope this one is better in the twelve oz. bottles. Drinkability for me was a bit cloying low carbonation needs to have some spritziness to it alcohol really came out in the flavor.

On tap poured into a Three Philosophers chalice at D.B.A. in NYC.
I went back and forth with this one for quite awhile. At times I hated it, at times I kinda liked it. For the most part I found this difficult to drink though it got easier as it warmed.
There was an overly fermented flavor going on... maybe some old blue cheese or old citrus rind. Definately a tart sourness to be found which I wrestled back and forth with; I liked it, I didn't like it, but I kept taking sips.
Definately complex, but overall not in a good way.
Maybe the tapline was dirty? I don't know.
I'd hesitate getting this on tap again (though I recall enjoying it in the bottle).
