look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4
Appearance: Pours black with a creamy tan-colored head that stacks up impressively in the pint glass, but gradually it dissolves to nothing.
Smell: The aroma is full of roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, and coffee. Also, a few hints of grain and fruits, primarily plums, sneak through which help to add further depth to this brew. There's a minor undercurrent of alcohol present, but never is it overbearing.
Taste: Bittersweet chocolate flavors are plentiful, as is the distinct taste of fresh-roasted coffee. Also, the taste of toffee is present. The plum flavors carry over from the scent to add a bit of fruitiness. This stout finishes with a just a slight twang of hop bitterness and the drying sensation of cocoa powder.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full in body. Carbonation is fairly minor, thankfully. The soft, velvety consistency of this brew is simply to die for! The oats, while absent from the smell and taste, at least deliver a level of creaminess to the beer. Way to go, Oats.
Drinkability: Overall, there's an excellent, unparalleled drinkability with this stout. The hearty 9% ABV is all but buried beneath the rich layers of flavors. For me, this is Stoudt's top beer and one I wholeheartedly recommend.

Poured into McDonald's collector glass (I'm...not at my own place right now). Poured dark brown/black with a thick rocky tan head that dissipates rather quickly into a ring of dense foam with tons of lacing. Smells of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasted malts up front, with some clean wetness and sweetness in the middle, and a bitter coffee finish, although some bitter dark chocolate sneaks back in at the last second to sweeten the aftertaste a bit. Mouthfeel is full and wet, perfect for an oatmeal stout.

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a craft beer glass.
A: Pours a dark black hue with a tan frothy head that slowly dissipates leaving a great trail and solid persistent lace.
S: Smoked malty aroma with a definitive chocolate aroma.
T: Sweet roasted malt flavor with a smoky alcoholic background. There are some dark fruit flavors and finishes on the sweet side of malty.
M: Medium body and medium carbonation.
O: Excellent imperial oatmeal stout. Great flavors and aromas and enough alcohol to make it interesting.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Funky Buddha snifter.
Appearance - A brown stream accumulates into a pretty black body. Small khaki head. Settles to a nice collar and a few pocks of foam.
Smell - There is a ton of oatmeal in this. Some chocolate. Some acidity in the nose too. Maybe just a combination of oatmeal and alcohol giving that impression. Definite licorice character.
Taste - Grainy texture and flavor up front. Licorice flavor manifests itself immediately. Chocolate behind it. Still buckets of oatmeal. That acidic flavor comes back here too. Maybe even metallic. Not sure.
Mouthfeel - Builds into an intrusive flavor with each sip. Slow drinking as a result. Not my favorite and this might get dumped.
Overall - Slowly working through this and enjoying it less and less. Too much oatmeal, which is giving off all sorts of flavors.

This beer looks as good as it tastes and smells! Black with a hint of brown showing through and poured vigorously from the bottle gave it a full three finger brown head that lasts as a full cap leaving nice sticky brontosaurus looking lacing on the glass. Kewl!
The aroma is roasted and sweet with some dark prunes and bready notes.
The taste is phenomenal and complex. It starts off caramel malty and sweet with hints of milk chocolate, vanilla and moves back towards slight breadiness (oats?) then some earthy hops and finishes with a licorice hint that numbs the tongue for a short period of time. It's pretty balanced!
The mouthfeel is carbonation hot at the very beginning then becomes creamy smooth. The body is moderate to full, just a tad on the thin side. There is a mildly dry and numbing feeling and finally a slick coat on the tongue.
Overall I would have to agree with many judges of this beer who called it exceptional! The alcohol is hidden well and really is only apparent to me with the tongue numbing and a slight warming. The body is just a tad, I mean a tiny bit, light, which is a blessing if you want to drink 2 or 3 of these puppies! The flavours are interestingly complex and evolve as the beer warms. A solid 4.25 or higher out of 5 for this doe-gee!
