12 oz. bottled purchased in the greater Washington D.C. area in mid-2/13, poured into a 3Fs Teku long-stemmed glass, drank one bottles 2/20/13 over ~two-three hours.

A: 5.0 - beautiful amber-brown coloration, minimal clarity/opaque whitish frothy 1 finger head dissipates very quickly into small glass lacing, barely perceptible alcohol legs

S: 4.25 -bubble gum, wood, bubble gum, wood, bubble gum, wood,....maybe a Belgian yeast?!?

T: 4.5 - no bittnerness, all bubblegum

M: 4.25 - light-medium body, low carbonation

O: 4.5 - it's good but not great, welcome to the world of the old ale....maybe more to follow outside of the political intrigue!

A bottle into a Weyerbacher tulip glass. I have not had a brewers select in quite some time and i missed whiskey. Glad to see this is an old ale as it's a bit nippy out tonight.

Once the cap was pryed some smoke appeared, blowing that away, the liquid comes into the glass a very bold mahagony color ooking brown and red up towards the light. The bubbles form a loosely coiled off tan foamed cap up top that sticks around for a few minutes. It eventually dies leaving a dead looking beer and no lace. Smell is very English forward with an abundance of English malt, scents of caramel, banana, slight clove. Chocolate arrises and a touch of smoke. The nose is not terribly complex, but serves it's purpose and shows it's English origin. A this fresh stage about a month from bottling there is the slightest bit of hops that make it in the taste leaving a spicy earthy hit on the tounge. Other than that malt dominates, Toast, roast, chocolate, caramel, banana, spice, fruit. These integrate nicely but a a year in the bottle may yield perfect results. Body is approaching full, carbonation is low, which I guess is on par for the style. A good old ale, a bit more authentic than a lot of american versions on a small scale.

This beer poured out as a deep amber color boarder line brown. The head is cream colored with a slight amount of retention and not much lacing. The smell of the beer smells earthy and autumnal. it's also got a nice malt sweetness in the nose too. The taste reminds me a lot of an Oktoberfest style beer, it's got a big malt profile with minimal hop bitterness at any level of this beer. The flavors of wood and caramel, sweet grains come through too. The mouthfeel is thick, lots of body to this beer. It's smooth and slick with a moderate carbonation. Overall it's a pretty good brew. Should be interesting to see how this evolves over time.
