Poured into my tumbler, "Verboten" has a cloudy appearance and golden honey color, not much head, some good lacing. The bottle is interesting, rather unadorned and simple, but it says "Bottle Conditioned". The smell is fruity, specifically like yeasty apple juice, with some complexity suggesting bitterness, but mostly a lot of sweetness - esters?
The first sip confirms: there's only enough bitterness here to counteract the sweetness and not much left over. I find it very bland, a slight peppery flavor. The fruitiness (still apples) is distinct but mild, the hops balance nicely but lack punch. This ale reminds me of hard cider. Mouthfeel is light-bodied, slightly sticky, pleasant carbonation, gentle on the palate.
Overall, this brew is easy to drink but a bit too well rounded to make a point. Not a hop-head's dream Belgian PA. I won't call it boring because it's well crafted and gets more interesting as it warms up. There's a lot to be said for its easy-going drinkability, but it *will* be "forbidden" from future purchases, so I can concentrate on styles that are more my favorites.

A: Amber-orange with small amount of head that dissipated quickly into a ring of bubbles.
S: Yeasty with hint of nutmeg or clove.
T: Sweet and yeasty, bitter nutmeg aftertaste.
M: Full-bodied, moderately carbonated.
O: Pleasant, aromatic Belgian pale ale with prominent yeast flavor. Somewhat displeasing bitter aftertaste.

12oz bottle poured into ale glass. Bottled on 02/05/13.
A-A pinky's fingers width of a white head that quickly receded back to the beer body. Leaves nice lacing that holds up while you drink it. The body is amber in color with an orange hue. Clarity is pretty hazy on this one. Looks like its unfiltered.
S-Defiantly get the full aroma of that Belgium yeast. Very effervescent. Get cloves and mild bubble gum up front in the nose. Burnt sugar breaks through. Really do not get any hop presence in the aroma.
T-Yeast is also the dominant factor for the taste as well. Overly yeasty with the taste. Cloves, very mild garlic taste and orange rind mixed in with it. Some staleness in there as well. Maybe some oxidation occurred? Leaves an unpleasant astringent aftertaste.
M-Medium high to high in body. Highly carbonated which is normal for Belgians.
O-This beer just doesn't do it for me. Leaves alot to be desired and is over powered by a Belgian yeast that I do not find pleasant. Over whelming in the taste and does not leave the mouth with a good finish.
