Poured into glass chalice:
Pours reddish copper with a thin head that immediately becomes a thin swirl with active carbonation in the center. Some vanishing lace slides down the glass.
The smell is of caramel, a general fruitiness, alcohol and some oak. The oak part doesn't come out quite as clearly as in the other two of this series I've had (Heresy and Insanity). Still, it is a pleasant, more subtle, aroma.
The taste is of caramel, sweet general fruitiness (banana/strawberry?) Woody oak with some whiskey notes. Oddish finish - sometimes drier, sometimes sweeter, always boozy, and a bit raw.
Soft carbonation with a body that is just about medium. A bit tongue-numbing, with lingering heat.
A boozy sipper here. The bourbon didn't really make that great of an impression on me, relatively speaking. The "quad" aspect was fine, though didn't really nail the style. A bit of an awkward combo here. Not as impressed with this one as with the other two of the series I've had. Still, in all, it's a fair enough attempt, and certainly worth trying.

A: Dark mahogany brown with a gorgeous, bready, thick head and okay lacing
S: Sweet caramel malts with lots of dark fruits and some boozy whiskey and oak undertones
T: Very balanced, big, boozy beer; sweet up front but balanced by a dry slightly bitter finish: the bready malts and dark fruits play well of of each other (cherries, dates, raisins, plums)
F: Quite creamy; medium body
O: A boozy but not overpowering beer--I wish there was more of a barrel presence but it's a really nice beer nonetheless
