Sampled on brewery visit. Poured with a nice orange hue with a one finger head.
Aroma is citric/tropical fruits with some spice component and not overly piney as I was anticipating. Very inviting, "smooth" not harsh. IAt this point I was relieved this was different than other super hopped APA's or IPA's I have tried.
Flavor is spicey/citric hop and the malt component well represented, providing good balance. The Simcoe is a hop variety is very interesting indeed. I am well entrenched in traditional English varieties and love their flavor/aroma, so I never thought I would take a shine to Simcoe. They got the bitterness level right as well.
Mouthfeel again is smooth not at all astringent.
While I will probably never be a fan of this style (super hopped IPA's)which seems to be running rampant across the country, I really think Double Simcoe is an excellent, well crafted ale. It may be due to it being a single hop variety ale, letting its individual characteristics stand out and be appreciated. I generally did not like the Hops Infusion, with its advertised 7 varieties, for example.

A rich dark mahogany. Noticeable hop presence with a mingling of figs and raisins and plenty of alcohol in the nose. There is enough sweetness to balance the bitterness of this beer and the alcohol is quite evident. It tastes fruity and delicious. The MF is nice and medium for the brew.
A good Imperial IPA.
