Not the most impressive appearance: no head whatsoever, minimal carbonation and a clear mahogany color. I expect a large head on a typical Belgian-style beer or at least some head. As it is, it just looks lifeless.
Smells of bubblegum and alcohol...tastes of bubblegum as well. Seriously, this is only the 2nd or 3rd beer that I've had with a bubblegum smell/taste (the others were quads also) and it is very prominent here, in both respects. Also some dark fruits and a hint of alcohol in the taste. No grainy, roasted or really any "typical" malty or hoppy flavors/aspects. Very interesting...I really liked it at 1st, and the more I drink it the less I like it. Still good stuff though.
Smooth mouthfeel, but its also on the thin side, especially for a brew of this strength. More body would do it good.
Quads seem to vary quite a bit depending on whomever brews them. The most similar quads to this, to me, are La Trappe and Avery The Reverand.
While not great, its certainly respectable and I give props to Weyerbacher for taking a stab at the style.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. no bottling date.

pours a reddish brown color with no head.

smell is typical quad aroma... slightly sweet. bready and malty

taste is quite good. mild caramel sweetness, yeasty. plums and raisins too. alcohol apparent on the aftertaste. surprised at this one honestly, i didnt think it'd be as good as it is.

mouthfeel. low carbonation, medium bodied. not quite a sipper (but at almost 12% ABV maybe you should!)

overall nothing world class but an enjoyable quad. recommended.

12oz bottle from Baker. Thanks!

A: Plum colored body with a quarter inch fizz. Bubbles are cascading through the top. Leaves noticeable legs on the glass.

N: Lots of malt and prune and raisin. very bready. A hint of leather and tobacco.

T: Bitter at the beginning with the bread and sweetness at the end. Has a bit of a twang. Isn't as much of a meal as it might be.

M: Sturdy and coating. not as thick or creamy as the highlights of the style. Doesn't have any sting of alcohol.

O: A solid stab at the style and something I'd drink again, but I wouldn't kill for it again, either. Seems like the bottle variation is all over the place.
