This beer is retired; no longer brewed.
Made with seven hop varieties, this deep copper-orange IPA is loaded with juicy hop notes of pine, lemon zest, and a layer of pink grapefruit and a strong foundation of toasted caramel malts underneath it all give this beer a complexity that's unparalleled.

Bottle > Pint Glass
A - Pours a decent orangish gold color, big thick 2 finger head khaki colored, decent lacing.
S - Floral hops, fresh grass, some honey, a touch of pine, and sweet malt.
T - This has a lot of malt power to it, expecially for being an American IPA. Some earthy flavors with a mild sweetness.
M - Not bad, clingy sweetness, a little bitter lingering.
O - I know this is an old bottle, for weyerbacher doesnt brew it anymore, but I couldnt see this being a stellar beer, but it has big time malt flavors goin on in here for it to really be a good representation of an American IPA

A - Dark amber body with zero head, just a faint ring of lace.
S - Pretty malt forward for an IPA, honey, brandy, booze, piney hops.
T - Sweet malts and low hops, bread, honey, orange, pine needle.
M - Medium syrupy body, low carbonation.
O - Perhaps I got a bad bottle, but I was pretty disappointed after the Double Simcoe these guys have out. Weird.

A - dark orangish amber with a huge, soft, dense, off white head that has decent retention
S - lightly bready with big citrusy notes
T - bready, piney, citrusy, bitter
M - medium bodied, smooth, well carbonated
This is a very hoppy beer with a mild malt presence. I think with just a touch more malt for balance this could be a superb beer. As it is, it's good but in an IPA-flooded market, there's little here that stands out.

Unlabelled bottle purchased from Slowbeer.
Pours a pretty deep ruddy amber colour, with a filmy, but slightly frothy yellow-white head. Consistency of the head is bubbly, somewhat, but it leaves pretty solid fine lacing. The body looks very pleasantly heavy, and holds carbonation well when tilted. Overall, it's not a bad looking brew.
Nose is quite sticky and, it has to be said, overly sweet. Big caramel malt characters come through quite strongly, oddly sharpened and extended by the hops, which are a little muted, but still provide a resiny edge to the malt. The hops themselves give alternately resin, dust and capsicain, along with a continual brusque earthiness. It's not bad, but it's not magnificent either.
Taste is similar, although the sweetness isn't as pronounced as I thought it was going to be. Here we get more peppery hop characters that meld into an earthy, slightly herbal greenness on the back palate, and a mild, slightly grainy maltiness which floats along without purpose. Very minimal bitterness, even in the finish, although there are still lingering resin aromatics trailing off at the very end.
Overall, this is a pretty generic IPA, or perhaps even a slightly substandard one. It's either too sweet or too bland, neither of which is a good descriptor for a good IPA. I was left pretty underwhelmed.

From 09/01/12 notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
a - Pours a hazy amber color with one finger of white head and moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells of fruity malts, light citrus hops, light grapefruit, lemon. Pretty nice nose.
t - Tastes of fruity malts, citrus hops, and grapefruit. Lots of malts.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel has no bitterness in it at all.
o - Overall a decent IPA, though on the malty side. Easy to drink and no hoppy bite, the hops are light in this one, though it still tastes good. Worth trying once.

355ml bottle. ½ Pint glass. Enjoyed on jun´12. Amber color, clear appearance. Creamy, close crown, good retention. Mildy toasted malts & clean bitterness both in aromas & flavors. Light to medium body. Moderate but lively carbonation. Oily hops in the middle linger into slightly resiny dry finish. Refreshing.

Served in a Nonic glass.
Appearance: Dark amber but still very clear, body has little no bubbles with a thin off-white head settling to maybe 1/8" of an inch.
Smell: Bland, almost a nutty scent to it but real weak.
Taste: For an IPA it is lightly bitter it is easier to drink than most. Caramel notes with of course some floral feel.
Mouth: Medium carbonation, not so sticking but does do the job.
Overall: Not a bad everyday IPA, I'd definitely grab one again. Will it be incredible or great...NO. But it will make you happy after a long day from work. Salud!

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a medium dark amber with 1/4 inch white foam. Some lacing. Subtle pine smell. Some toffee. Taste is a firm bitter hop, light malt. Fades quickly, light taste. Bitter holds after. Overall a lighter chewy blend with a late hitting and remaining hop.

12oz bottle served in a stange.
pours a really nice deep amber/copper hue while yielding a finger, finger and a half of beige head. good retention and lacing. an overall great looking beer. nose isn't insanely aromatic but there are some nice citric hops (grapefruit, lemon), a bit of pine and some floral characters. some caramel malt evident in the background.
more of the same translates to the flavor. hops varietals balanced nicely with the malt backbone. not otherworldly, but very tasty and enjoyable. medium bodied mouthfeel with average carbonation.
overall, this beer doesn't get a lot of press but i thought it was pretty damn good. to each his own. i'll look for it again.

I realize this is nearly a month past the best by date, but this is possibly the last time I'll ever have the chance to drink this beer, as it was officially retired by the brewery at the end of May. So, this is as fresh as I'm going to get it unfortunately. Oh well.
A: Pours a nice amber color with a fingers worth of head that goes to a thin layer of bubbles within a couple minutes
S: Fairly light, but there are some hops (mostly grassy and citrus) and light malts
T: Again, fairly light. Mainly hops, though, with a light breadiness. Hops are fairly bitter and are again grassy and citrusy
M: Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation. Too much carbonation for an IPA, as it only diminishes the hops that are left after 5 months
O: At its prime, I'm sure this was hoppier than it is now and some of the oils might have held up against the carbonation. As of right now, though, it's fairly light on the hops (although they still overpower the malts). I think there might be a reason why they retired this one though

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip
A: Pours a clear deep amber with a 1finger off white head. Minimal lacing and retention.
S: Very faintly smells of pine/resin and a hint of malts.
T: Better than the taste, pine resin and some malts.
M: Medium body and carbonation.
O: Slightly disappointing. For having 7 types of hops, you sure can't tell. It is light on the palate and easy drinking. Personally, I would like more flavor.

Appearance - light gold through to amber with visible sediment and reasonable head.
Smell - dry, hoppy. Can not smell any malt coming through, it's all hops baby!
Taste - complex aray of floral hops with pine and resin. No secondary characteristics or discernable yeast and malt flavours.
Mouthfeel - smooth and syruppy with decent carbonation.
Overall a delicious and very drinkable beer from Weyerbacher. A typical but decent American IPA.

poured from 12oz bottle into snifter
A-pours a nice clear, very deep amber, small head that fell quickly.
S-nothing impressive here. smells a bit floral. a bit oily even. not that pleasant.
T-Very nice hop profile. Malts are pretty dull. Needs more of a caramel sweetness to help it out.
MF-smooth, a bit creamy, nice carbonation. Very nice hoppy aftertaste.
O-this is alright. Wont mind drinkin it. The smell is still killin me, but the hops make up for it on my palate. Way overpriced, 12 for a 6 isnt worth this one.

Drunk with the hop monster himself, a17c.
A: Beautiful colour, held to the light it looks layered. The best way to describe it is like a cheap basketball orange. Head diminishes quickly but leaves a residue of crusty white on the glass.
S: Piney and quite buttery. Can definitely smell a big cauldron of hops. Grassy fresh nose cannot wait to tuck in into this bad boy!!
T: Thick creamy palate showing big signs of butter..Taste lingers on the tongue teasing you, making you want to try some more. Refreshing body that dissipates into a smooth ale. Sticky resiny taste.
M: Thick at the front, lingers on the tip of your tongue and works its way to the back of your mouth, the body continues to grow slightly but then dissapears.
O: As the name suggests : 'Hop infused' you aren't dissapointed. Nose doesnt match the taste. One of the more sessionable IPAs, but was expecting a bigger bitter in your face brew. Could polish a few more of these! Appearance was very inviting, more beers should look like this.

Since it will probably be my last chance to review this. I have had plenty of these and enjoy them thoroughly, just never reviewed.
A-deep amber in color with a 2 finger lacy head.
S-bready and lemony with a hint of caramel.
T-hops up front and give a burn to the tongue. Lemony citrus with a malt background. Seems like a lot of bittering hops were used but not many flavoring or aroma hops. Very dry. Now that I am reviewing I am thinking more of it and may not enjoy as much as I thought.
M-little disappointed.

A: Amber in color with some chill haze, small white head with porr retention and moderate lacing.
S: Smells of crisp bready malts, carmel, and pine
T: Slight piney bitterness upfront, biscuits, caramel, and a hint of lemon. The finish is dry and alcohol is not present. Hop presence is quite lacking.
M: Medium to full bodied, medium to high carbonation bites at the palate, nice dry finish.
O: Overall a nice easy drinking ipa. Nothing I'd seek out but it could be refreshing on a hot day. I was expecting more of a hop presence seeing that this was bottled 16 days ago. I honestly thought this was a pale ale until I check the style

Notes from 4/7/12
Amber-brown with an orange tint. Sticky off-white head sits happily. Lacing.
Grapefruit aroma. Pineapple.
Flash of hops up front with a creamy feel. Peppery hops flavor lingers a bit. Caramel malts hold up and balance the bittering flashes. Alcohol in the back end adds some heat to the picture.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip
Thanks to Mr Kennedy for opening this
A-- Poured a dark, somewhat clear amber copper color. Attractive enough looking. Started as light brown film and had to coax a two finger head by vigorous swirling. Settled back to film then. Some spotty lacing.
S-- Pine, grapefruit, lemon, slightly grassy, and lots of Carmel.
T-- Toffee, near burnt. Orange, lemon, grapefruit, and more grass.
M-- Watery in mid and back palate. Front is more metallic than anything else really. Low carbonation and somewhat puts me off in drinking this.
O-- Not real good. Decent looking and decent smelling. Comes apart after that.

Thanks to Chris @ Slowbeer.
Pours an attractive gold red yellow colour.
Smell is caramel malt, toffee, melon, lemon, English malts, English leafy hops.
Taste is lemon, orange and lime. No sweetness in this and it's dry and astringent. Unenjoyable to actually drink as a result.
Mouthfeel is thin, watery and astringent. Lacking carb and lacking in general.
A promising IPA which unfortunately just tastes unpleasant- bitter and astringent like over-brewed black tea.

Pours a dirty copper orange color with decent cap of off white froth, okay retention and lacing. Scent brings a mix of hops from floral to citrus to piney, coupled with a light caramel and toasty note... scent doesn't really blend well or give off that welcoming juicy or resinous scent. taste follows suit, lots of floral and muted citrus, pine notes taste slightly stale, not fresh resin. Bland light caramel and slightly nutty background. Medium bodied, average carbonation, not quite dry. A mixed bag of an IPA that just never comes together.

12 oz. bottle poured into shaped pint.
A - Pours a cloudy orange with a small off-white head that disappears quickly, but it leaves a nice lacing on the glass.
S - Sweet malts, some corn and honey. Not many hope on the nose. Doesn't smell bad, but doesn't suit the style well.
T - Toasted malt, grass, and fruit to start. Some yeast, caramel, and slight hop bitterness on the finish. There is an overall metallic flavor.
M - Good carbonation, maybe a bit syrupy, but very smooth.
O - Not one of weyerbacher's better beers. The taste was off. The 7 types of hops this one is brewed with do not shine through; perhaps they are trying to do too much. I try to represent this local brewery as much as possible, and although I love IPA's, this isn't one I turn to often.

A- Pours a semi hazy copper with thick 2 fingers of head that lingers and laces.
S- Not what I like out of an IPA - getting a honey and yeast combo I think. A very faint citrus/pine presence as the beer warms up, but not enough. As it warms it smells a little boozy too.
T- Kind of weird like the smell - not what I would expect or hope for from an IPA. Minimal hop bitterness though not completely missing. It's pretty well balanced I guess, not a total loss. A lingering sweet/toffee like flavor stays in my mouth.
M- Medium Body, a bit too light on carbonation
O- Meh, it's average. Someone who likes maltier IPA's might enjoy this more than I did, but not my cup of IPA.
