This Gomer's location is fairly close to I-35. Pretty easy to get to. It seems way bigger inside than it does on the outside. The craft beer is in the front of the store on your left as you go in. They have a very wide selection of everything available in Kansas. Service was okay, although I usually don't need help. They have a very small section for a biuld your own six pack. I didn't see any deals that blew me away or any rare beers, either. They carry quality products and have a good selection of those few breweries that are available in KS bu not MO.

This is easily the WORST store in the KC metro when it comes to getting limited release stuff that isn't from Boulevard.
Tonight, I went in there looking for a bottle of GI Big John. The guy I talked to mumbled "let me see, I think someone else was in here earlier asking about that one." He looked for it in the computer and said it hadn't come in yet. When I asked if he knew when it would be in, his response was "whenever they deliver it." I had just been to a smaller store less than 5 minutes away that receives even fewer craft beer customers than Gomer's and they had a case of Big John. I have had numerous experiences with clueless employees at the store, so this guy's lack of knowledge came as no surprise.
I think the store is content with being a BMC shop when it comes to beer and then only stocks the year-round craft offerings that are easy to get from the distributor. The beer guy(s) certainly don't keep up with upcoming releases and it seems like they only find out about new releases when a customer comes in looking for one. Unless you're wanting BMC or a year-round beer from a craft brewery, avoid this location.

I love going to this place which is only a few miles away from my home. I think for the location, this is probably the best place that you can go to in the shawnee area. They offer a vast amount of liquors and not to even mention the brews. A bit of beer that is kept cold, however for the amount of space they have, they could have a bit more. But for what they don't have cold they make up for on the shelves. They have a few shelves of create your own 6-pack; and an entire quarter of the store dedicated to craft brews.

I have visited this Gomer's location many times and decided to sit down and actually do a review of it after my last visit. It's located kind of out of the way off of 87th parkway, close to Quivera Ave. The store is a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the major beer traffickers in KC. The quality of this place leaves me at an impasse. They have a great selection of beer, probably the second best selection on the Kansas side of KC but unfortunately they keep the majority of their six packs in front of a large window. It makes me leery every time and I still haven't picked one up just in case they are light struck. Their single bottle and bomber selection is housed in a couple large bookshelves, away from the light of the window and the overhead fluorescent lighting. And let me tell you, they have an awesome selection for KS. You can always count on them for getting the limited releases that go to KS. They also get things that I haven't seen elsewhere in the area. They had actual growlers of Rogue Dead Guy and were the only place in KC to get Dads Little Helper. The service is top notch. The guys there really know their stuff, and if I remember correctly, the guy who runs the beer side is a active member of RB and occasionally haunts BA. If you're out that way I would definitely make a stop here.

Gomers of Kansas was a big disappointment. I planned on visiting this store because I wanted Great Divide beers and I wasnt planning on going to Lawrence, KS.
Even though 87th St. is under-construction and the Interstate on/off ramp is closed I didnt have any problems finding this big, standalone store. Plenty of parking, too.
Inside, the appearance was warehouse. Most of the space was dominated with wine, hard liquor, and cheap beer. The craft beer was to the left as I entered. They did have all the Great Divide beers I wanted but little else interested me. Oh, they did have Goose Island Matilda, which made me happy. There was Unibroue, Bridgeport, New Belgium, Odell, and a few dozen imports from Germany, England, and Belgium. Some craft beer was stored in coolers, most was not.
I was at a loss as to why they stored all the corked 750mls on their side? I would NEVER buy a corked beer stored on its side. Secondly, these beers were right underneath a big window. WTF? So I might be buying a light-struck, corked beer? Umm, why risk it. I didnt buy any.
I thought the prices were way out of whack. Beer in Lawrence is much cheaper. I believe this is the first Kansas-side KC beer store Ive been too. If this is an indication of the prices, forget it! The Matilda was only $10 for a four-pack, very nice. Yet other beers Ive seen for say $5, they sold it here for $7.50. Some beers were priced appropriately while others were way too pricy. Odd.
I received no service. The guying checking me out did say I had good taste in beer. He was right! However, a different checkout guy harassed my girlfriend, he said she had the worst fake ID hed ever seen. Umm, she is over 25. Umm, she had a military ID as well. After some thought, he sold her two bombers of DIPAs. As you know, minors love super hoppy beers!
Regardless, of the service I dont think Ill be back unless I really want GD beers and I am not going to Lawrence. I doubt that scenario will play out often.
This is not a very good beer store, IMO. Skip it.

It is tough for me to figure out how to rate this store. It has a wonderful selection of beer, the staff is nice, and it is a well maintained store. Another thing that scores points with me is that they stock every single Samuel Smith's beer. The problem (hence the 2.0 quality rating) is that 3/4 of their good quality beers (imports, micros, and small macros like New Belgium, Goose Island, etc.) are sitting out warm, on a shelf, exposed to their bright flourescent lights and are right in the front window of the store.
Despite their beer storage conditions, I purchased a four pack of Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. I have drank enough Nut Brown Ale to know how it should taste and you guessed it, it was skunked. You can blame the problem on the fact that Samuel Smith bottles most of their beers in clear bottles, but that is no excuse. The retailer should make the effort to protect the prodcuts they sell from light damage. And even beers in brown bottles have the odds stacked against them when subjected to the conditions they throw at them.
Unfortunately I will not buy any beer from this store that is not in their cooler. It is close to where I live, but I will instead shop at Rimann's at 87th and Lackman or at Metcalf Discount Liquor for most of my beer.

Gomers in Kansas runs some excellent loss-leader sales -- check the KC Star online for their ads. They have a good selection of cold domestics and imports, and sell shelf-temp single bottles of almost every beer in stock (hundreds of brews, priced individually). Good selection of spirits and wine as well. Nice staff, they've special ordered some items for me in the past.
