Notes:
Cameron’s Deviator Doppelbock Barrel Aged is a unique brew that is based on our previous award-winning Doppelbock releases. Doppelbocks are Teutonic-inspired dark lagers that feature imported German malt and were served by the Bavarian monks during times of fasting as “liquid bread.” This version of Cameron’s Deviator Doppelbock has been aged for six months in Kentucky bourbon barrels. This process lends to a smooth, toasted vanilla notes, layered upon the complex malty body.

Dark brown coloured with attractive mocha coloured lace. Bourbon aroma for sure. Mouth puckering combination of sweetness and sourness. A decent barrel effort but not a great one, not worth the high cost. Would have been better in smaller cheaper bottle for people to try.

Bottle at C'est What, into a tulip.
Dark brown, with some clarity at the edges. Beige head, but it's transient with little to no lacing. Nose has some bourbon, toasted oak, dark fruits/berries and some mild chocolate character. Taste has moderate amounts of bourbon, some oak, vanilla, dark fruit flavours. Lots of dark bread character too, and a bit of red apple. Slight chocolate notes again. Light bitterness, medium feel but feels slightly watered down. A good beer, but not much of an improvement on the original.

Poured in to tulip.
A - Poured a medium to dark brown and settled black. Half a finger of light brown head formed and quickly receded to a ring around the glass.
S - Bourbon and sweet vanilla are dominant. Very sweet overall nose with the barrel present and the base beer completely hidden.
T - A big bourbon presence with some oaky flavours up front. The base beer is present in the palate, adding toffee and dark caramel flavours. Some sweet vanilla is present throughout. The overall flavour profile doesn't do much for me as the base beer and the barrel don't integrate well at all. Very sweet.
M - Light body. Extremely watery. Very light carbonation. The mouthfeel completely ruins this beer. The overall palate is not bad, but the thin body really kills the beer overall.

Brownish-ruby red, one finger of tan head, light lace as well. Tons of oak and bourbon in the nose, vanilla , malt reveals itself a bit along with some darker fruits, raisin and a bit of toffee but the barrel certainly dominates this. Taste again is dominated by bourbon and oak, vanilla, mid palate dark fruit, plums, malty sweetness and a bit of chocolate comes across, oak in finish and bourbon in the aftertaste. Medium carbonation, medium full body and quite chewy. Way too much bourbon dominates this one here, certainly not an improvement on the base, this would be ok to split like 4-5 ways.

More "barrel" than I'd choose.
Pours a thinner than expected dark brown with a limited head that disappears quickly. Aroma is pure "bourbon barrel" - and although it smells excellent for a bourbon barrel, I'd prefer some hint of the grain profile as well. The flavour has more breadth, with an abrupt transition from very sweet to quite dry in the finish. Some caramelized chocolate malt tones and a hint of German yeast, but they are hidden behind the "barrel" wood notes.
Any barrel fan will enjoy this beer, although personally I prefer Cameron's traditional doppelbock.
