--Average, brown bottle. No freshness date found.
--Poured a very clear in color, with a minor head that didn't last. Not much for lacing as well.
--Smell was very average (ie not impressed)
This was the second 'low carb' beer I have tried, with Molson Ultra bieng the other. While I will admit that this was far better tasting than the Ultra, It is still a beer that I will probably stay away from. But if you are looking for 'the best of the worst' I would give this one a thumbs up.
Thx

Retired or not, my CANadian trader, BigBry, sent me a beautiful box of CANs recently. Some are CANadian, some are not, but all are worthy of inclusion in The CANQuest (TM)!

From the CAN: "Big Rock Brewery [-] Brewing real beer since 1985"; "Light Beer/Biere Leger"; "Crisp, clean, fine dry finish. Jackrabbit is unique among light beers. A true lager, the champagne of of light beers."; "Simple ingredients. Extraordinary taste. Truly C[AN]adian." The CAN label is SO much more compelling than the stupid bottle label. Here, Jack Rabbit is an elongated piece of cave art against a stippled buff background that was VERY reminiscent of the PRC deck in the "U"-shaped passageway aft of Supply/Admin berthing aboard the USS Normandy (CG-60). I want to drink it just to add the CAN to my collection.

The Crack and inverted Glug were nice, although not prehistoric. The two fingers of puffy, bubbly, bone-white head like meringue rabbited away like I had scared it off. I will never forget the one morning, upon arriving at the school building early as I am wont to do, I came upon a rabbit sitting on the lawn. It saw me but since I posed no threat, it sat there and casually watched me enter the building. Today, I must have looked more threatening. Color was a pale straw-yellow with NE-quality clarity and while I know that rabbits reside in Nebraska, I do not know how they feel about straw, except as bedding. Nose was clean, honey-like, and an example of real lager, no matter how light. This was not a light AAL, but truly a "Light Lager". The mouthfeel was thin, as to be expected, but there was no indication of adjuncts in the taste. Finish was semi-dry and a refreshing change of pace after the previous AML.

Why did they disC ANtinue this beer?!? Sob. This had to have been one of the better examples of the style that I have had in quite a while. An inquiry MUST be made and i am just the CANMan to do so!

I've never felt the need to validate the lo-carb bandwagoneers, but in the spirit of trying anything once, rather than in six-packs...

This beer pours a clear, super-pale, straw, heh, colour, with rising bubbles, which are only mentioned due to the lack of any other visual cues to the carbonation - no head, no lace. It smells of watery sweet white grain, and very, very mild floral hops. The taste is mild all around - white grain and weedy hops - except when it's just plain bland. The carbonation is low, the body thin and weak, and it finishes a tad off-dry, the minimal grain exerting one last whisper of sweetness, to go with a lingering echo of weedy hops.

Nothing more that what was expected - another watery version of a so-so base beer, drinkable only for its resemblance to water, not because of any inherent flavour. And I see the jackrabbit connection now - if you drank any succession of these, they'd go down so fast and undetected, that you'd have to make like Bugs and hightail it to the loo...

A - Pours a clear, very light golden colour, barely any head and zero lacing.

S - Grassy and bready malts and sour lemon.

T - Much like the scent, grassy and bready malts with a bit of sour lemon. The after-taste is very bready and a bit of a turn off.

M - Probably the only thing that's desirable about this one is the fact that it's light on the palette and goes down smooth.

D - If you're looking for a non-offensive light lager with no real flavours, then this one is for you. I'd say it's comparable to the non-alcoholic drinks on the market.

A not much color or head and no lace, I was impressed by how little color this beer had

S again very little, some sweet grains perhaps

T as close to nothing as you can get with out drinking water

M watery but good carbonation on par for the style

D it's easy to drink there's just nothing to it whatsoever, I would have given it an average grade if it had flavor

I don't expect much from light beers but keeping in mind that I'm reviewing for its style it's still quite bland and boring

i like big rock, just not this product.

i had a sample of this, so my wallet didn't suffer at all... good thing too.

A: pale yellow, thin head, goes away fast.

S: bit metalic and grainy, not much there

T: better than Alberta Genuine Draft, all i can really say. had some hints of grain

M: overly thin, didn't like it, but i dont like most light beers.

D: i'd rather have this than a silver bullet.

This popped up in a local liquor store when I was looking for something summery. Thought I would give it a go.

Pouring it into a mug results in a pale yellow colored ale, with two fingers of fizzy head. Head quickly evaporates, with minimal lacing left on the glass.

No real discernible smell.

Flavor is a wattery grainy taste. Doesn't really linger in the mouth at all.

It says it is a light beer, and it is certainly light. This is a slight step up from water and just as easy to drink. Nothing really interesting about this lager. I'll be passing it by in the future.

Very pale yellow gold in colour with plenty of visible carbonation. Fair sized white head that steadily fizzes away, but doesn't disappear for some time.

Light grainy smell, semi sweet. Can't pick up anything when looking for hop aromas.

First tastes seems quite grainy, almost coarse in flavour, but after that first hit on the tongue, each mouthfull seems more and more watery. Slight grain flavour lingers, but not much.

Watery and far too fizzy in the mouth. Carbonation is sharp against the tongue.

Bland flavour, coarse mouthfeel and faint, one dimensional aroma. Not so good.

I've never understood light beer. I started drinking when I was 28, and didn't grow accustomed to light lager at any point. But, if you want to pound eight beers, this straw gold beer is absolutely clear and poured like water out of the can. The aroma is light, not unpleasant, and smells like green apples. The light head fell immediately. And it's got that corn adjuct macro lager smell. Again, if it's what you want, it was quite drinkable for the style, though I'd get a diet coke in a bar--more flavor.

341ml bottle served in a mug. Came out of a variety 12pack celebrating Saskatchewan's 100th anniversary.

Pours out almost totally devoid of colour. Very, very pale yellow. Paler than any white wine I've ever seen. The very small head is white, but disappears in the blink of an eye. Very little lacing. This does not look like beer.

Extremely mild smell. Almost no smell at all. Faint signs of hops and some miscellaneous sweetness. Atleast it doesn't smell bad, it just hardly has any aroma at all.

The taste is very difficult to discern. Several swallows are required to catch the flavour since it only appears for about one second. this is similar to a watered down light beer. Some slight grainy flavour. No aftertaste at all. Again, this doesn't taste bad, it just doesn't taste like anything.

Mouthfeel = soda water. Next?

You can pour this stuff down your throat and not even know that you're drinking. This really reminds me of soda water. I'd prefer to drink water than this. About a year ago I tried another Low-carb beer (can't remember which Molson or Labatts) and although I don't have a distinctive opinion of it in mind, I don't think it was as devoid of flavour as this one.

(Served in a 1/2 pint sampling glass)

A- Pale yellow with a pure white rocky head that turns into a few random bubbles pretty quickly. Body is very clear.

S- Very light clean smell with just a hint of light hops.

T- Bland hop bitterness with a light carbonation zippiness and a hint of corn taste. Very dry seltzer water finish.

M- Light body with a fizzy mouthfeel

D- Very light fizzy beer that has very little flavor. It is pretty close to the BJCP style guidelines but it just has no character or interest that I hope for in a beer.

The Atkins / low-carb trend comes to beer. Big Rock, which has a good selection, enters this diet fad with Jack Rabbit - 2 carbs per serving and only 85 calories. Colorful orange label and stylized leaping rabbit looks good on the can. Pours a light, light yellow with no head. Smells like an average beer should, but there is hardly any flavor. Fortunatley, there is more beer flavor than the other low-carb brews. Unfortunatly, it still isn't very much at all. If you have to choose, this the better of the low-carb beers, but just skip the fries and have a real beer.

I have also tried the bottled version. Might get slightly higher marks, but I doubt it.
I don't mind saying that I am glad the low carb trend has faded away.

Low Carb crap that I had to try because of the colorful label (and Ive never tried a lowcarb beer before, so why not try a respected micro's interpretation?) It pours an extremely light color, literally paler than white wine or welches White grape juice. No head at all. The taste is only of a faint funky yeast smell (maybe its yeast, or some wacky adjunct). The taste is a little better than I thought it would be, with more flavor than some non 'lowcarb' lagers. Id say its more flavorful than Bush. Its still terrible though. The palest beer I have ever seen, ever. What a stupid fad, low carb beers. Beer deserves way more respect than this.

Big Rock is known for decent beers so I figured that their take on
the low carb beers had to be palatable. I was wrong, this beverage
makes Alberta Genuine Draft look like a winner. The sickly pale
yellow colour was complemented by a lack of taste and nose.
If this is what Big Rock can do with 85 calories then I shudder to
think what Molson's and Labatts low cal beers taste like.

I felt as if I were purposely baited into buying a 6 of this stuff--oh no, not for any health related "Atkins" purposes, nor for the sake of jumping on the latest bandwagon craze (like lemmings leaping off a cliff into a sea of bad beer). Due to a conversation I overheard at a finer liquor store between the head beer clerk and a woman who had a case of this stuff in each hand. The jist of it was that unlike all the other "low carb" offerings to be tossed our way in the past bit, this stuff at least had some flavour to it. Flavour? I thought to myself. Well, it was Big Rock, they've been hit and miss the past few years, but when they do manage to do it right it is usually mighty fine results. Perhaps the bitter wind chill had frozen my brain that day, my judgment may have been off, but suddenly I was curious, I had to see what the "flavour" of this stuff was like.

So presumably throwing in an attempt to compete with Sleeman's low carb whatever beer, as well as the macro's offerings into this new FAD, it appears that Big Rock quickly came up with Jack Rabbit for the masses of Atkins kooks, as well as the hordes of mindless shills who will buy stuff like this anyways, because they think it's "healthy" beer.

Quickly indeed for this bunny, it seems to me. Reminds me of a painfully watered down version of their former Big Rock Light. The purple logo on the sickly orange label claims that it contains 2 grams of carbs and only 85 calories. There is no mention of flavour. There is no need for it.

The appearance of this lager is a clear sickly straw hue, pale and pallid and flaccid looking. The nose contains the slightest bit of grainy malt presence, but I found the non-alcoholic Warstiener Fresh that I accidently bought a while back to have more character to its nose. The flavour seems to have called in sick today, and doesn't know when it'll be back at work, and the last minute temp that's replacing it is the slightest bit of watery grain, no hops whatsoever, no nothing really. Mouthfeel possesses a bit more carbonation than water. Not very drinkable stuff at all, if you are drinking this because you are on a low carb diet then the only thing I have to ask you is what the hell are you doing drinking beer while you're on a diet in the first place? I'd rather have a glass of water myself to something like this. Shills.
