Ayinger Lager Hell is the typical every day drink in Bavaria. Together with wheat beer this Muenchener Hell style is the most famous beer style in the Bavarian south.
As people in Bavaria are very demanding as far as their daily drink is concerned the brewers are very aware of the necessity to brew a yellow-golden beer with a light malt taste. It is crisp, smooth and mellow. A perfectly balanced taste and aroma.
Ayinger Lager Hell is often used for cooking and it can be paired with many typical Bavarian dishes like beef, pork and cold meat with radish and Brez’n.

Reviewing from Notes. I had this beer during Oktoberfest 2010 in Munich. An amazing experience.
Serving type: Served on draft at the Ayinger Haus across from Hoffbrau
A - Nice and clear. Not a whole lot to note. True to style. Huge white head much of a head that stays with you throughout the beer.
S - Slight yeast notes and maybe some floral notes. Really subtle if any..
T - Nice and Crisp. One thing I noticed immediately was the lack of yeast notes. It was really fresh but didn't taste unfinished and too young like the wheat at Hacker. This might be a batch to batch issue. Not a whole lot of citrus or hop but defiantly present. Not a lot of huge flavors on this but true to style and easy to drink.
M - Light body not a whole lot of note. Mid to Low carbonation.
D - This is just a personal thing but I find this to sit heavy on my stomach. They drink really well as they are light and crisp but for some reason I didn't find myself wanting more than one.

Clear straw Helles gold. Mid to high carbonation. Earthy and grassy on the nose. Taste follows with malty sweetness and bready finish. Slightly dry at the end. Crisp and enjoyable from a very consistent brewery.

Straw yellow and a white head. Semi-sweet straw malt on the nose, maybe some fresh cut hay. More of the same on the taste, with a hint of very gentle floral hops to balance it out. Not exactly bready malt. More like straw, honey, and and fresh hay. Smooth enough mouthfeel but the carbonation makes it not quite as silky as it could be. Overall a pretty decent Helles but far from the best. Ayinger's other offerings have impressed me more in the past.

Rare to see on German labels, but there’s a filling date (05.12.22) as well as a best by date (05.07.23). As if Ayinger could get any better! Absolutely love this brewery, I’d say possibly my favorite in Germany. Having said that, this is a surprisingly mediocre Helles. No doubt it’s well-crafted and delicious and I’d never turn it down, but maybe my expectations were too high. It’s just a basic light lager, after all. But, I’d happily consume liter after liter of it. What I can say is that I had a 0,5 liter draft pour from a freshly tapped wooden barrel (“Holzfass”) at the their restaurant in Munich (am Platzl) right across from THE Hofbrauhaus on March 25, 2023. Tapped at 6pm with a mallet by the bartender to little fanfare. But I was excited. And yes, it was truly delicious. Really smooth and mellow. Went down way too easily.

33cl bottle.
L: Clear, pale gold with clouds of bubbles rising to a thick and long-lasting, beautiful, cream head.
S: Bready and clean.
T: Pale malt with a soft, dry, sweet finish.
F: Light body, smooth mouthfeel, foaming carbonation.
O: This style is never going to set the world on fire. That said, who doesn’t relish a beautifully restrained and extra refreshing pale lager on a hot summer day? This is an excellent, high quality version of what Americans refer to as “lawnmower beer” and what Brits refer to as “bbq beer”.

Pale straw with a tower of loose snowy froth; fresh white bread flesh, lilies + tin; fresh croissant, table water crackers, a drying coriander middle, mild spice to end; dry, soft, clean.
4.25 4.25 4 4.25 4.25
Freshness making all the difference; this is 6 weeks in the bottle.
The nose is like a loaf straight from the bakery, not the crust but that mouthwatering sweetness.
The taste isn’t quite as intense, but it shouldn’t be for a Helles; instead it’s feathery malts and subtle hops in a delicate balance. There’s skill in the all-around lightness without being insubstantial (which is a Munich thing, as I understand it) - it’s never watery.
The clincher is the mouthfeel; clean but round + soft, not snappy like a pils.
All that said, Ayinger have better examples of any particular style in their range.
Not the paragon - Weihenstephaner is still the king - but you couldn’t ask much more of a Helles.

Pours a clear straw yellow color with a medium top off white head that dissolves quickly.
Aroma is of light bread and biscuits ,grass, hay, honey, spices and herbal hops.
The taste is dry and grassy with some citric notes, allong with some nice light malt notes in the background. It then finishes with a slight and well ballanced bitterness with some spicy and herbal hop notes. Clean and crisp mouthfeel with a medicarbonation and a medium body.
A really nice and easy driniking everyday lager
