Dark rich color. Fruity esters with tones of clove. Medium body with a bouquet of fruity flavors and strings of clove. Again, the clove presence is noticeable, as it is ubiquitous. A low hop profile. Overall a nice dark beer smooth and crisp. A good texture adds to the beers drinkability, however the beer in totality would better served by lees carbonation.

A drinkable Weiss, for sure, but falls short of a good Dunkel. Plenty phenols and appropriate lactic-hefe vibe, yet not enough malt depth to achieve darkwheat status. In the end, tasty, but lacking.

Pours a hazy light brownish with an initial creamy head that sinks far too quickly. Great fruity nose with banana and possibly apples with some light spiciness of cloves but not too much. The brew starts off very fruity with banana and some slightly tart, possible apple flavors before going into the sweeter side and hitting up the malt. There are some lingering chocolate tones towards the end and you are left wanting more. Nice full mouthfeel with just the perfect amount of carbonation that makes this brew very drinkable. Yet another great german hefe here, I would certainly suggest this.

Apples and banana... cloves and yeast in the nose. My God, there was easily three inches (plus) of head, light caramel color... rather spiffy looking. I loved the apple & banana tartness and the spiciness of the cloves was welcomed. The maltiness of the body was satisfying. That combination made a hell of a smooth and enjoyable drink. It is complex enough for those who dont care for straight wheat beers.
It is very tasty. I was impressed with this one!
I enjoyed looking at the cute family on the bottle top.

Ayinger does not know how to make a bad beer. This is another great one, with an apple-cider/tea color, a choppy head that dissipates, and a leathery aroma. I like the unusual, impenetrably cloudy appearance but it may put others off, and the leather-glove smell is weird but I liked it. The taste is great - tangy, fruity, spicy (cloves), hints of vanilla, banana, apple, and perhaps clay? Finish is delicious and makes you want more and more, while refreshing your thirst at the same time. I've never had a weisse quite like this and I loved it for its uniqueness, although there is a vague plastic quality that might bother others. But to me Ayinger can do no wrong. I imagine this beer could go with anything, but it made me especially crave a medium-well hamburger.

A nice pour with a good, lasting head and attractive color. Smell and taste are sophisticated yet well integrated. A tad heavy for a wheat; an excellent pairing with a meal.

Pours a cloudy amber / brown color, with a huge, creamy, off-white head. On the nose there is complex fruitiness and almost gives off a tiny hint of smokiness (I could be wrong though). On the palate there is traces of bananas, cloves, apples, and pears all rolled up together. This isnt my favorite style, but I do enjoy one during lunch with a good meal. I havent had many dunkel-weizens but this has to be one of the better versions I tasted. Overall good brew!

Okay, this beer has a nice light amber color to it and slight aroma. The head is a medium tan, but it didn't hold, but I don't know how long it had been on the shelf. Interesting flavor with a slight tang to it.

Typically beautifully dense, very thick head-- just a touch less formidable than Franzikaner's Dunkel. Hazy orange and very effervescent from the copious bubbling. Chunky yeast aggregates if you pour out the sediment. The aroma has less of the banana and clove than expected for style, but instead lemony and tart fruitiness hit the nose at first then are followed by yeasty mustiness and a touch of chocolate. The mellow toasty Munich malt flavors coupled with wheat tartness and mild banana flavor make for quite an enjoyable brew. Hop bitterness seems a bit above the norm, and is detectable in the finish. The malt body is just a tad lacking, but the myriad of overall flavors still make this a flavorful dark wheat. There's less contibution from the yeast than other examples of the style, but this allowed for Munich malt flavors to come through. Ur - Weisse is a tasty and drinkable
brew.

Light brown, hazy color similar to iced tea. Slightlyt sweet, thick tan head that tastes of apples. Low bitterness and fairly well balanced. Enjoyed the Erdinger dunkel weisse more than this one.

Presentation: 17 oz euro brown bottle with no freshness date.
Appearance: Hazy amber with a creamy looking off white lace.
Smell: Soft and fruity with hints of banana and granny smith apples ... trace of clove also in the nose.
Taste: Crisp and smooth with an assertive carbonation ... a soft wheat flavour and mouth feel hold the medium body together. Pretty much on the dry side with lots of fruit character (apples and banana), a rounded tartness and a clove like spicy flavour helps to balance a little. Hops are vitualy invisible ... long dry semi grainy finish helps to wrap this brew up.
Notes: A well built dunkel hefe-wezien ... quite drinkable to say the least. One of the better imported dunkel hefe-wezien. Did some one say lunch time brew ... pair it up with a smoked ham and munster cheese on rye.

Had this today at the brewery Gasthof.
POurs a hazy, murky light brown tone, murky, thick with yeast, light orange highlights, really nice thick head, leaves lots of lacing.
Smell is beyond my expectations. Spicy peppery cloves upfont, carmel maltines, citrus, banana, fresh hay, musty yeast, all with a really nice malty backing that really rounds out and makes this beer really interesting in that the base malt smell is really solid, and the yeast creates a kaleidoscope of fruity, musty, and spicy flavors.
Flavor does not dissapoint in th least. In fact it matches and exceeds the fantastic aroma Spices- i.e muskatnuss, clove, pepper followed by a nice caramelly sweetness, all cut by a nice carbonation and a fresh, grassy yet musty and spiced finish. Fruits, citrus, orange and banana come into the mix creating that classic hefe-flavor I really enjoy so much.
THe carbonation borders on a near perfection level matched with a full creaminess that makes this beer extremly enjoyable. The complexity of the flavor, aroma, combined with the mouhfeel make me wonder why this brew is not higher rated in the dunklehefe catergory. An extremly enjoyable bier, drink it if you see it.

T: Banana bread with a little spice and citrus, slightly sweet.
M: Moderate body & carbonation. Creamy.

Yow! Super duper beer. Ayinger makes some wonderful beers.
The beer pours an opaque ochre yellow, with a slight greenish tint. Head is copious and tall, although it dies out about 3/4 of the way through the beer.
Aroma is very wheaty and malty, with plenty of esters, namely clove. Bubblegum and banana are also present, but the clove stands out. Hops are undetectable in the aroma. Lots of phenol.
Flavor is spicy and clovey, with tons of wheat sweetness. Moderate banana and light bubblegum flavor, with a huge phenolic feel when you breathe through your nose. Light spiciness, and a semi-dry finish, with just a tiny dash of hops. Body is fairly full, with all the yeast floating around. Moderate carbonation. An excellent beer! I could probably drink this for the rest of my life if I had to.

On-tap review from 14OCT02...
Enjoyed at Liebhard's in Aying, vom Fass! Had a tawny, brown, cloudy color, with a big, foamy head which thins quickly, leaving nice lace. Lovely aromas abound in the nose: lots of clove and nice banana notes...real strong! Has medium body, and the typically pleasant weizen roughness on the tongue. Nice maltiness, lots of clove, some banana and yeasty notes blend nicely, with even a hint of chocolate thrown in. Quite enjoyable!!

Bottle review from 06APR02...
Another good product from Aying... Dark-golden hazy color (with the yeasties swirled in!)...with a fine, beady head; not much lacing, though... Love the nose....fruity(apple/bananas..)... quite inviting. Medium body, with a fairly smooth tongue-feel. Lots more fruit flavors on the palate - bananas, some apple, touch of clove....crisp, dry finish.... pleasantly pleasing... Wish I was quaffing this in the shade under the trees on a pleasant summer day in Aying right now... (4.0/4.5/4.5/4.5/4.0 = 4.35)
Prosit!
