Poured into a yardstick glass. Merry f'n Christmas!
A: Due to the way I poured it into the said glass (read: as aggressively as possible), it came out with one of the biggest damn heads I've ever seen. Forget measuring it in fingers, this thing would have had to been measured in FEET. And it was beautiful to boot. Frustratingly, the head retention is excellent. The body itself is a very cloudy, murky dark copper color that looks vibrant.
S: Apple, banana, cloves, and that trademark "bubblegum" smell dominate the nose. Smells a bit tangy, as well. Nice!
T: Very refreshing stuff. The typical wheat beer esters are there in full force (bubblegum, banana, cloves), but it also has a tangy apple quality that mixes beautifully with the other flavors. I have to say that I slightly prefer the flavor profile of a hefeweizen, but I can really taste the top-notch quality in this.
M: Nice smoothness, with refreshing carbonation. The feel of the beer doesn't stand out, but holy shit, is it easy drinking.
O: Like I said, if given a choice between a hefe and a dunkel, I'll probably take a hefe. But this is nonetheless an excellent beer. If you've never had the style before, this is a great place to start.

A: Rich in tannin color, it pours a luxurious two-finger head in my tulip glass, which does dissipate quickly. Lacing is non-existent.
S: Hints of ether, light cumin, and bready malt come to me. Noticeable banana and yeast are quite apparent, too. This is what a Dunkel should always smell like.
T: Bananas Foster, herbal spice, clove, and extra-sweet caramel--this is a knock-out. There's a reason this beer was instrumental in helping to begin my love for good beer.
M: Rich, low-hanging acidity that leaves a bready aftertaste makes this a smooth finish.
O: I've always loved this beer, and nothing has changed. It's a beautiful and affordable experience for the beer newbie and aficionado alike.

500ml bottle purchased from BevMo in Menlo Park, CA.
Pours a muddied orange-amber colour, heavily hazed, with a solid froth of white foam. Body is very fluid, and seems light, but the haze, and the fine carbonation gives it a distinctive weight. Lacing is weak, but forms in patches. Overall, it looks pretty decent.
Nose is a little earthier and spicier than I expected. There's no big banana characters, and no classic clove: instead there's a very organic character, like freshly turned mulch, mingled with a peppery spice and some other estery characters: I get vanilla and starfruit. And yet, it manages still to feel like a German ale for some reason. It's confusing.
Taste is pleasant. Smooth, clear wheat characters give a crisp centre of the palate surrounded by sweet softness all around. Some peppery, earthy and leathery notes come out later, and even some of those banana phenols missing on the palate seem to appear towards the finish. It's quite pleasant.
Feel is smooth and light. Not bad at all.
Overall, this is different, but very pleasant. It's perhaps somewhere between a hefe and a dunkel, and yet also manages to hold very different characters from many of the examples I've had in the past. I was very interested in it as a result.
