Ayinger Brau Weisse has a very thick, frothy, white head and a hazy, yellow-golden appearance, which gets even hazier when the bottom contents of the bottle are swished and poured into the glass. There is some lacing left behind, but it quickly washes away. Aroma is of banana, sweet bread, and candy sugar. Taste is of peppery spice, sugar, banana, some coriander, yeast, and white wheat bread. Mouthfeel is mostly light and watery, and Ayinger Brau Weisse finishes dry, crisp, refreshing, and highly drinkable. Overall, this is a wonderful wheat beer.

Golden coloured, hazy beer poured into a wheat beer glass with hints of cloves, banana, with a touch of citrus and coriander. Smooth, wheat taste. The hints of banana and cloves are upfront, with a smooth semi-sweet aftertaste.

Every Ayinger beer I've tried has impressed me. I find myself torn between naming them or Weihenstephaner as my favorite brewery. I enjoyed the simple, summery taste of this beer. While it is unfiltered, it is still light tasting and doesn't weigh me down. Great beer for a summer evening!

Pours a fizzy bubbly airy 1 finger head that fades semi slowly with decent lacing, hazy golden wheat colored beer.

Nose is like a pure Bavarian hefe, good version too, lots of wheat, light airy juicy malt, hint of typical spices like coriander and very light clove, bit of orange citrus, fairly effervescent.

Taste is light feeling, wheat a plenty, little watery malt although it's meant to be lighter, fluffy effervescent wheat and malt, juicy too. Typical hefe flavors, light spices coriander and clove like, with a little bitterness from the spices, and the citrus almost orange juice like, and some fruitiness like a lager. Finish is sticky and not as dry as I thought it would be, lingering wheat and citrus as well as spices.

Mouth is lighter bodied, fluffy and lots of carb.

Overall mixed, it has its moments as a great hefe but other moments it's not as good as I would have expected. I feel this would be much better fresh in Germany or on draft.

The beer has an orange-golden appearance, with a huge, well-retained head. The aroma, as expected, brings cloves and bananas (the last very well pronounced).

The medium, hazy body emanates bananas, and is very refreshing. The hops are discrete, and the sip goes smoothly, with a fast aftertaste. In the aftertaste, we are reminded of the very discrete hop presence in this brew.

From the moment you pour this beer, it reminds you of a true southern German heffe-wiezen. It brings me back to days of being stationed in the former West Germany. When poured, it easily produces an excellent creamy head with a light and refreshing flavor. The beer itself goes down wonderfully and pairs easily with pork, kraut and grilled meats. The beer also performs double duty as it lends well to traditional German mixed beer drinks (radler, cola-weizen, etc.)The appearance is definitely what you want for a traditional unfiltered beer, cloudy and golden. Cloudy with a slightly bitter after taste, but not the strong bitter flavor one would find from the hops in an IPA. Try adding a bit of lemon or rice to have a quick vacation to Germany.

500 mL bottle, thanks Thorpe!

Pours a hazed straw golden with a frothy white head. Nose of banana, yeast, lemon and sweet malt. Medium thick and soft on the pallet with a strong banana flavor. Light clove and grass, but fairly sweet and smooth. Simple but adequate.

Bought this from the LCBO. A white head cloudy pale dirty orange. Good head retention and lots of foamy lacing. Spicy fruity yeast smells. The flavour is rather more subdued than the smell. A bit of a sour note in the finish. Very Smooth. Overall an interesting hefeweizen. Not my personal favourite of the style, but well worth a try!

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a Schneider Weisse weizen glass.

Pours a hazy golden/orange colour with a very lively head.

Smells very yeasty and quite fresh.

Tastes very fresh as well. Quite prominent wheat flavour with a bitter and spicy hop kick.

Overall a really great beer, a perfect example of the style.

Pours a pale amber in the chalice. Nicely sudsy with a thin foamy ring, along with fine, persistent bubbles in the mouth. Aroma of apples and bread.

This brew has the nicest watery body with the creamy carbonation I admire in the best German beers. The classic wheat esters but in a lighter, more fragrant style. All the flavors are quite elegant. Starts out with that slight malty sweetness and edges into a pleasant fruitiness-- more pear than banana. Some spicy notes, but not the common overload of clove.

Really a great example of the classic German style. It travels well in the approximately 12 oz bottle.

Decided on this one for Thanksgiving dinner. Straight pour from bottle into weizen glass. Great looking unfiltered hefe with a monster 3 finger pillow head that sticks around for a long time. Smell is true to the style with banana and clove notes. Perhaps a bit of spice and bread. Taste is very crisp and bread forward. Nice hints of fruits and a touch of spice. Minimal hop distraction. Pick up a biscuit/bread hint as well. A nice earthy wheat to close out the tongue. Very easy to drink. Feel is decent. Adequate carbonation and a bit of silk on the tongue. A little watery and dry, but not too thin. Overall- I really like this hefe. Great balance and combination of the true hefe characteristics. Ayinger is a solid outfit and I have enjoyed their beers. This is perhaps their best effort. Great brew to go with Thanksgiving and will be getting more of these soon. A must try-

Drinking alone tonight. My fiance is in Jersey, so it's sushi/steak night. Decided to start with something light to go with the sushi rolls.

This one pours a cloudy gold with a nice foamy head. Eventually settles down with a thin film. Looks good. Smells nice - banana, wheat. Taste - has a solid amount of carbonation which creates a crisp bite, more than other hefes I've tried. Flavorful as hell - banana, clove with a "wheaty" aftertaste. A faint touch of bitterness.

This one gets high marks all around. Refreshing, especially after a week filled with tough financial decisions. Will have again.

Serving Type: 2 11.2 oz. bottles poured in to a weizen glass.

Appearance (4.5): Un-filtered, hazy and slight carbonation. Nice head retention.

Smell (4.5): Floral, with banana.

Taste (4.5): Wonderful.

Mouthfeel (4.5): Creamy, slight carbonation feel.

Overall (4.5): I am loving Ayinger beers in general, I feel like they put a lot of work in to the "cleanliness" and quality of their beers. Their brau-weisse is no exception. I want to give it some fives but I feel like I don't know enough about hefeweizens or beer in general, or have enough experience to give that.

tall .5 L pour. massive, billowy, beautiful head. god bless those germans! hazy (understatement), thick, sediment-filled, thick, golden pour.
smell is very rich, very floral. used to be my favorite style but just got too rich for me. also a reason why i'm coming back to germany from the belgiums...
taste is also very rich and floral. too rich for my liking lately, but this is still a superior (commercial) company which produces excellent quality brews.
mouthfeel is thick also. there is carbonation in there, but it is hidden due to the thick sediment.
overall, excellent. head thins, but remains creamy. the beer is filling and satisfying, like a meal. i can see the heartiness being very satisfying, especially when the season cools as it is now, but i'm still wanting that abv before i get TOO filled up. i guess i'm just a lush. forgive me.

Appearance: It has a nice cloudy golden/yellow color to it. It has a nice white head that dies down moderately and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of yeast, spices, bananas, wheat and some breadiness.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a yeast, spices (mainly cloves), banana, beady notes and wheat malts.

Mouthfeel: It has a high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with great flavors and aromas. Refreshing and flavorful.

A - Great looking beer, nice gold colour with a thin head that lasts for some time, lots of carbination visible.

S- Some citrus notes, ripe fruits - melon, pineapple, banana, - it does smell very good. The banana is most noticeable, which is very nice.

T- Bannana taste is very present, with some wheat and some spice as well. Its nice and sweet but not overly sweet, very good flavour profile.

M- Soft on the mouth, very creamy, medium body with a decent amount of carbination.

Very good beer, very well rounded and full of flavour, real smooth and enjoyable. One to try for sure

Poured from a 500mL bottle into my Ayinger weizen glass.

Golden stil de grain yellow body is luminous yet quite cloudy; a fist of active ivory merengue is held aloft above. Superior retention - incredibly dense tendrils of lace.

Sweet, clean, faintly grainy wheat aromatics are subsumed by the distinctive yet gentle phenols from the yeast.

Tart palate entry is joined by a dough-y complexity in short order. Brisk, faintly sweet tastes dry out in the finish with hints of winter fruit and the slightest pinch of coriander and clove. Faint bubble-gum notes in the aftertaste, though the balance is such that it is difficult to nail down the character of the flavor profile. Ice cream bananas and hints of fresh cream emerge as the beer warms.

Soft full and creamy mouthfeel - nearly perfect.

Incredibly well crafted with balance in mind - one of my first forays into good beer - after many years, this has held up well and continues to be one of my very favorite examples of the style.

50cl bottle poured into Weihenstephan Weissbier glass.

BBE May 2012

A- Cloudy blonde body with a 4 finger creamy head sitting on top, excellent retention, medium lacing. Lively beading

S- Typical banana/bubblegum, a suggestion of a biscuity graininess.

T- Lots of banana and hint of clove which i didnt get in the nose. Hint of grainy sweetness toward the semi dry crisp finish.

M- High carbonation, medium body/mouthfeel

D- Expected it to be lifeless considering age but it held up well. Excellent sessionable summer biergarten stuff! Off to Munich for Oktoberfest so will stop in at Ayinger am Platzl and re-review a fresh version.

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium golden yellow in color with some moderate to heavy amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a three finger tall dense foamy white heads that has very good retention and very slowly reduces to finger tall cap in the center of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bananas with a lighter presence of clove - smells like what I would expect for the style.

T: Like the smell, the flavor of this beer is also dominated by the flavor of banana and the lighter presence of clove. The beer is sweeter than I expected with the wheat flavors coming through in the finish.

M: Slightly heavier than light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: Extremely easy to drink, refreshing, and sessionable - one of the easiest beers to drink and pairs nicely with food. I could easily have many of these in a session and would enjoy them all.

Bottle from the LCBO, 500ml into a weizen glass.

Unfiltered yellow, with an almost greenish tinge to it. Good retention and lace. Nose has banana, wheat, some herbal hopping qualities. A tad sweet and drying. Taste has more banana, wheat, gentle hopping leaving a light bitterness and slightly drying light body. Full flavoured, and very easy drinking. I'd put this behind Weihenstephaner, but I'd stock this regularly if I could.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours out a hazy golden straw color with a four finger fizzy head that dissipates in 20 seconds without leaving any lacing behind. Medium-light body and carbonation levels.

Smells of banana, medium amounts of clove and vanilla, and a touch of yeasty bread. Tastes of the same elements but also contains a little garnish of fruity esters and earthy hop tone on the back end of the sip. Keeps semi-dry throughout, in fact, a touch drier overall than most other hefes I've had.

My only complaint is the lack of head formation, unusually tragic for a wheat beer.

Cool looking German style bottle into flute

Look is a very cloudy golden yellow with a small fizzy head that fades very quickly. smell is yeast, clove, wheat, and banana in that order. Taste is bright and crispy banana, clove, apple. Fell is crisp and light, high amount of carbonation

P:  Hazy two toned body that goes from dark golden on top to a pale yellow bottom. Highly aggressive effervescence and crowned with a thick dollop of pure white meringue head that sparkles.

S:  Fresh citrus, apricots, sun kissed wheat, spices, powdery yeast, saltine crackers

T/M:  Taste follows the nose nicely with additional banana, lemon zest and honey notes. Super clean and fresh.  Coriander and powdery yeast are blended into the fruity sweet and tartness very well.  Soft and delicate mouthfeel that is creamy and leaves your mouth slightly dry. Carbonation is subtle and highlights the simplicity of this delicious hefe-weizen.

O:  I really liked this beer.  Although  I liked it the powdery yeast almost disrupted the crisp clean citrus and wheat flavors.  All in all a fantastic hefe that I would easily drink multiples of on a nice summer or spring day.

Smell is clove and bananas, with some pleasant wheat and bread flavors.

Appearance: very active carbonation; pure white head with large bubbles that last a few minutes; almost clear, gold like a cider

Aroma: huge spice and fruit - banana, coriander

Taste: light in flavour and body, although flavour could be referred to as subtle - white grape and golden delicious apple are hinted at in the juicy and lightly sweet taste and texture; the sometimes unpleasant bitterness of a weizen is very minimal here, instead there's just enough balance to keep it at once pleasant note; spice is less in evidence than it was in the aroma

Overall: one of the better weizens I've tried; simple but with enough complexity to make it interesting, and quite refreshing
