Thanks to Fewa for this one...

A: Dark yellow slight orange and white head that goes into a modest lacing.

S: Vinegar and a light funkiness

T: Vinegar, some oak, brett, and something musty which is too strong for such a light taste.

M: Very thin body, medium carbonation

O: Well, I was warned by FEWA not to open up this bottle... yet, and he was so right. High expectations, but it was a big letdown, especially since I gave up a whale for this. I was told that grapes were used for this batch, but I don't notice this in the palate. Nice bottle for Cantillon collectors, but if you're not into hype, buy a Vigneronne or a classic Geuze. Way better than this!

ADJUSTED my review after trying another bottle in a side to side blind tasting, during an EPIC sour tasting with rvdoorn and other sour-lovers. Probably it just wasn't the right day for my taste the first time. Still too fresh in my opinion, but much better than the regular cantillon geuze.

Opened on 4/20/13, poured into a cantillon tasting glass

appearance- Hazy orange with a finger width of foamy white head

Nose- funky apple and citrus

taste- Citrus-- lemons, grapefruit, with a clean fruit finish. As it came to room temperature i could really grasp the blend of wine characteristics and notes of oak barrels. very light funky cheese came across my palate but was an undertone to citrus. moderate to light carbonation offering up a very smooth finish.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour, tart, and funky with some grain, acidic, and mineral aromas. Taste is much the same with some mineral-like flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with great aromas and flavors that make it super easy to drink.

750 ml bottle generously shared by cpferris. Big thanks to Chad for sharing this rarity. Pours a clear light amber with close to no head and some light lacing. The aroma is funky with a mineral note, with a bit of a wine note that becomes more prominent as it warms up. The Initial taste has a bit of sweetness with lots of funk and a mineral note as well as some light grapefruit. The finish has a decent tartness and a light tannic astringency. Medium body. Low carbonation. This was good, but I don't know if it's a huge improvement over classic gueuze.

Shared by me at a tasting 1/12/13. 4oz. pour into a Cantillon Zwanze glass. Reviewed from notes.

Thin white head with great retention. Stringy, spotty lace to match. Thin legs. Beer is a clear pale lemon-goldenrod. Head retention is impressive here.

Nose is straw, light lemon tartness, fresh grass. Moderately aromatic. Pretty simple and rather fresh.

Opens light lemon spritz. Hay, old wet wood, lemon rind, very mellow vinegar notes linger in the back. Dry and lightly tart going down with more wood, horse blanket and lemon rind in the finish and aftertaste. Like a 2-3 year old, well aged gueuze.

Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Lively in the mouth and clean going down. Clean finish with a dry, sticky aftertaste. Solid.

A lot of people have compared this one to Classic gueuze and I think rightfully so. That said, this one tastes and smells a bit older than its 2011 date. There's also noticeably less sweetness (which I appreciate). Worth trying and a very well made beer but I wouldn't go out of my way for this one again.

Thanks for sharing, Chad! Snifter. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours lemon-golden with amber highlights beneath a thin white head that faded into a good long-lasting collar.
S: Very funky nose, light citrus, and a bit of sweetness. Smells awesome, a bit fruity too.
T: Follows the nose with a good funky fruity flavor. I get notes of golden fruits, hay, straw, citrus peel, peach, apricot and a hint of shit and earth. The finish is sweet but has a good bite of acid, and the aftertaste is smooth and clean.
M: Medium body, very smooth mouthfeel, acidic but not vinegary. Super easy to drink.
O: A wonderful gueuze. I’ve been wanting to try this one for a while. Thanks again cpferris!
