Had this on tap at Churchkey as a prep for Zwanze '11

Pours a slightly cloudy yellow with egg shell head that receded to a thin lace atop the beer.
Medium strong barnyard funk greeted me right off the bat. A slightly fruit background provides some balance. Champagne dryness comes through a bit with pineapple rind as well.

Great funky flavor with fruit notes. Tropical pineapple with some kaffir lime leaves provide peripheral notes.

The mouthfeel is medium thin, with high carbonation. Very drying finish as well.

Overall a really nice sour. Could use a little more complexity.

Had reviewed this in the past but the review disappeared along with a few others from Cantillon Zwanze Day 2011??? Enjoyed while attending Cantillon Zwanze Day 2012 at Avenue Pub! Served from bottle into a wine glass. Poured a hazy golden pale yellow-orange with a one finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, spice, earth, floral, tart, sour, pepper, and grass. The flavor was of sweet malt, spice, earth, bell pepper, sour, funk, and floral. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. There was a nice earthiness to this brew that definitely kept me coming back for more. Just about everything on this brew was spot-on for what you would expect from Cantillon by now. It has the type funk that they are known for, as well as their nice subtle tartness that gives you just the right amount of pucker. A really well done brew with a great touch of complexity along for the ride. A very well done brew that I hope to get more of in the near future.

Pours a cloudy pale golden-orange color with a surprising amount of white bubbly head that dissipates rather rapidly leaving no lacing

Aromas begin with that typical Cantillon yeast blend of musty funk, green melon and slight earthy wet hay. Light pilsnery and wheaty maltiness but really not much, mainly the funky yeast.

The tastes initially throw me off guard. While it smells like it would be funky and sour, the flavors are more inline with a wit beer with no spiciness. There is a subtle mix of spice, sweet malt and very light lactic tartness. The funk is there, but it's just sort of wet with a bit of a dusty earthy, rustic quality.

The mouthfeel is light bodied with very soft and subtle carbonation. Finish is lightly funky but not overly so, no spicy wit characters as I was expecting.

Overall, I was sort of caught off-guard by this beer. While I'm aware of how this beer was brewed, I was expecting much more of the usual Cantillon lambic character to come through. The aromas suggests nice big funky sourness but the flavor was a little hollow, maybe it is past it's prime or just in a downturn right now. Not bad, just not stellar in any facet. Heard the 2011 was better, maybe I'll eventually get a chance to find out.

A: The aroma is of spicy yeast, sour grapes and a barnyard funk that increases as it warms.

T: Sourness/tartness is balanced by a barnyard/ blue cheese funk, finishing prickly and crisp. The tartness resembles the aroma, tasting of white grapes.

M: This is highly drinkable.

O: This is a great example of what a Belgium Lambic brewery can do with an American Wild Ale. Glad I had the chance to try this, thank Monk's

75cl poured into a Cantillon gueuze glass
Vintage: This is self explanatory ;-)

Enjoyed at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas in early June 2012.

A: Sunshine yellow. 1.5+ (bright white) fingernail head on gentle pour.

S: Smells of earthy hops, soft hay, and touch of must. Hint of very mild citrus as well. Not terribly inviting or "classic" Loon-esque, but good all the same.

T: Follows smell with mostly earthy overtones. Nice soft must along with mild hop bitterness, citrus, and muted spice. Hint of dried flowers as well. Interesting, but not overly enjoyable.

M: Light bodied with medium carbonation.

O: Light and refreshing. Not what I was expecting from this beer, but a decent change of pace for Loon fans.

Yet another great beer to thank Frank (lurchingbeast) for! Cheers! Had at a big birthday tasting.

Appearance – Pours a hazy straw color (wow, I’m using the same descriptor as everyone else but I’ll be damned if it didn’t look this way). Slight off white head is achieved with a moderate pour.

Smell – Hints of apple, lots of musty earth and barnyard funk, lemon zest, odd pepper, and cardboard.

Taste – Similar to the aroma. Quite earthy and funky, but honestly not in the good way. Slight citrus (lemon and orange), hints of floral and grass, and just a bit of citrus (granny smith apples).

Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, decent carbonation.

Overall – While I want to pump this up seeing as I have a bottle in the cellar...this was a bit lackluster. Who knows....in a few years this may be fantastic (ehhhh). But as of now...as with the 2011 version this is not the best Cantillon by a long shot.

A-Light orange in color, light cloudy with about a half fingers worth of champagne-like white head.

S-Nose is sweet, earthy, and liightly funky.

T-Flavor is less wit forward than I remember, it’s actually pretty balanced now.

M-Light mouthfeel, some acidity, decent carbonation.

O-Had gotten better with some age, still not close to my favorite Cantillon.
