Served in a Loon tulip on a cool, rainy summer's night
I missed enjoying Zwanze 2011 at Cantillon by about a week, but a friend who lives in Belgium was generous enough to open this one up during a tour around the country in early June 2012. Cheers!
A: Purplish ruby red. 2+ (pinkish) fingernail head on medium pour.
S: Smells of classic Loon lambic - funk, must, and dry. Loads of unripe dark grape, soft red fruit, and oak. Hint of lemon too. Nice!
T: Taste follows smell, but grape skins are pungent and the oak character is nice, smooth, and balanced. Reminds me of a blend between St. Lamvinus (Stilla) Unblended and Vigneronne - in the best way possible. Young "funk" character, but very enjoyable nonetheless.
M: Medium bodied with appropriate carbonation.
O: I was stoked to try this surprise beer and didn't mind polishing off the dregs either! Wish I could get another bottle of this, but stoked to have enjoyed the opportunity to try it. Classic (young) greatness, per the usual! I have come to expect nothing less.

Pinot di Aunis, bottle poured into a cantillon taster. Big thanks to Manuele from Ma Che Siete for hooking me up with this world class beer and big thanks to Jbeatty for trading me another
A- dark orange with creamsicle looking head
N- Huge depth of white and red grapes. red wine, vineous with an earthy/grassy and almost pepper yeast funk.
T- wow,... wow.... by far top 3 of the day for our 4/20/13 tasting which consisted of veritas vertical, loerik, YB, eszett. Uli blends, beekeeper, le woody so on and so forth. I freakin love this fine liquid.
earthy funk, pepper spice, vineous red wine, cobb webb. such a combination of deep characteristics. simply amazing.
M- Light, airy, smooth, gods nectar poured into a cantillon tasting glass
O- One of my favorite Cantillons. Cant wait to see how my other bottle ages. I think ill open it in 2031.... in the meantime ill be ISO a few more bottles so that I can see what 5 yr intervals does to this one.

Bottle of Zwanze 2011 opened at Zwanze Day 2012 at La Fine Mousse. Wonderful surprise for a wonderful Cantillon day.
A: Dark ruby, with some purple glints. Small off-white head that fades quickly.
S: Smell is very funky, with lots of barnyard aromas, leather, even horse blanket, some light tartness come after. Quite smooth and very well balanced with fruity scents (dark grapes and berries). More fruity flavors hide behind this very unusual nose for a Cantillon (apples, pears, etc.). Deep, complex, amazing.
T: Sour and funky, even smoothier and more balanced than the nose, with an oaky and fruity character. Still white fruits, grapes and berries. Quite bitter and tart aftertaste.
M: Not much carbonation. Rough on the palate. More a sipper than a refreshing beer.
O: Mind blowing lambic. Zwanze 2012 was supposed to be the king of the night, but this one was even better, one of the best Cantillon I have had actually. I would love to have this again!

Had summer of 2011 at Ma Che, review from notes. Pour is mostly tranparent dark orange with a creamy white head. The nose is amazing, dusty cob webs with a bit of cellar musk and some earthy cheese notes. Lightly peppery and nice vinous red grapes. It is awesome! Musky cellar and notes of cheese rind. A bit dusty mid palate with a strong peper note balanced by a red grape vinous quality. Balanced and integrated so well with the spice and sweet grapes. Body is light, soft and airy with a gentle carbonation and extremely dry tannic finish. Such deep character to this and so well integrated, world class stuff.

Review taken from notes I wrote on a scrap of paper. Served on tap at Zwanze Day ’11 at West Lakeview Liquors. Sampled in my newly acquired Cantillon tasting flute.
A-Zwanze pours a light pinkish red with about a half fingers worth of thin white head. Not much to add in terms of lacing as the head dissipates rather quickly.
S-Nose is predominately pepper, grape, light cherry, lemon rind, grass, must, and horse blanket.
T-The taste follows suit with more grape and lemon rind, cob web, some light grass, and pepper on the finish. I was told at Zwanze Day that the pepper character actually came from the grapes that were used in Zwanze ’11....pretty interesting.
M-Light to medium bodied, with pleasant acidity, light carbonation, and a nice finish.
O-Though I still need to try Zwanze ’08 (which I thankfully have in my cellar), this has been my favorite of the series by far. I hope Zwanze Day happens for years to come, couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

Enjoyed at Cantillon. Ruby orange with off white head, fades to thin ring, light lacing. Nose is dominated by the peppery grapes, light wood and horse blanket finish it out. Taste is light grape juice with the pepper coming through yet again, some cheesy bretty flavors, and very lightly sour. Creamy carbonation with a light clean finish, not very dry at all. Not my favorite fruit Cantillon by a long shot, nice to try, but this grape doesn’t do anything for me.

2011 75cl Bottle
We ordered 2 x 75cl bottles at the brewery split among friends. We had to drink it there as there are no to go bottles available of this beer.
Pours a cloudy hazy reddish/orange with a very slight white head. Smells of tart, sourness with plenty of glorious funk comprise the nose. First sip is surprisingly dry with still some sweetness left. Green apples, lemons, and sour fruit dominate the flavor with a nice tad of oak peeking thru. Mouthfeel is amazing as it is perfectly carbonated. Wow X TWO!
