75 cl bottle at Delerium

A: Clear, light yellow, moderate bubbles.

S: Sour, white wine is the main smell. A little citrus hides behind that, but not much.

T: Tastes about like it smells. Mostly the sour funk you would expect from a Cantillon but with the accompaniment of a sour white wine. I still think there's citrus at the end, but again, barely there. Ends with a bite from the sourness and the carbonation. I don't think it works as well as the kriek or the framboise, but it's certainly not bad.

M: Light, carbonated, fizzy. Think Champagne.

O: Currently my least favorite Cantillon, so still better than a lot of the beer I've had in my life. If you're around Cantillon a lot, give this one a try eventually. But if you've only got a little time and can try only a few, I might let this one slide and stick with the Lou Pepes, St. Lumnivous, Fou Foune, etc...

Bottled November 5, 2009.

Beer is translucent golden, almost opaque. Small to moderately sized white head, little lace. Decent retention.

Nose is tart with a bit of a funky hint. Wheat. I get some grape when I look for it.

Funk and white grape dominate the taste. Lemon. Quite sour, dries the mouth in a big way. The wheat base is quite noticeable. The grape is not as strong as I imagine it was when the bottle was younger.

Light to medium bodied, low carbonation. Puckery in a big way.

Overall, a very nice beer but not one of the better Cantillons.

From a 750 ml bottle into a tulip. Reviewed from notes taken on May 26, 2013.

A-It is light golden in color. The brew has more clarity than other Cantillon fruit beers, but it not as clear as the gueuze. A thin white head drops quickly to a collar.

S-The smell is musty and vaguely sweet; very vinous, like you might expect given the grape they use to make this beer. That being said, this brew still smells tart and acidic. Funk is moderate and more wet earth smelling than truly funky.

T-The taste is more tart that I would expect. There is some serious pucker power here. Some of the wine grape comes through, but the overall effect is more earthy and musty that fruity. It is complex and the fruit flavors are pretty subtle.

M-The feel is typical Cantillon, i.e., light in the body with the perfect dose of moderate, crisp carbonation.

O-This is maybe the most interesting Cantillon I tasted at the brewery, but not my favorite. The musty grape flavor just did not jive with the lambic in the same way that, for example, the apricots do in the case of Fou Foune. My criticism aside, this is still a very good beer and better than most other fruit beers out there. The acidity here would pair well with a white fish dish or salmon.

Enjoyed at Brouwer's Sour Fest. Served in a snifter.
I'll have to apologize in advance for any verbosity and poetic musings. This was my first taste of anything from Cantillon.
Color of unfiltered apple juice, with a small, pure white head. Smells like melted rubber in a wet basement. Tastes incredibly complex--I might have to say a wine snob's beer if that makes sense--lots of layers here: dark fruit, red wine, a little barnyard funk, with a slight hop flavor here and there. Very drinkable. Strong harmony of flavors lingers before fading off the tongue, like an orchestra's perfect decrescendo. Alright, enough bullshit; this was just a great beer.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip.

Ap: Pours a yellowis gold color and leaves very little white, fizzy head.

Ar: grapes, some funk and some sour.

Taste: Matches the scent - grapes, funk, sour with some wood and some white wine quality, with a wood finish. Very balanced.

Mouth-feel: Medium to high carbination. light, but not thin.

Overall: Well Balanced and pleasing beer. Very much like drinking a nice white wine with carbonation.
