found on tap @ collins bar (manhattan) this tuesday, a couple of BA's and I went specifically to the bar to have this on tap as we were in the city to see the band King's X @ BB King's that night..

$8 for a 10oz portion

eyes...
clean and clear looking fruit punch, maybe "blush punch". No discernable head but this is a lambic so looks are not what makes the style imo.

nose...
subdued strawberries melted in geuze. The bret smell was mild compared to bottle versions (to be expected), it had the belgian trademark funk nose but it was so scary balanced and pleasant it was like sniffing perfume.. perfume for BAs but perfume none the less. I let my nose linger in the glass for some time... it just had the perfect aroma of wild sourness that cantillon is known for but a super nice balance of fruit as well... I sniffed it full and often with every sip. fantastic.

taste etc...
sour, very sour, like most cantillon offerings but the subtlety in the fruit was so nice. The mouthfeel was divine, at first it enters the mouth like fruit punch, almost watery.. then it happens, it develops into this full tasting experience, the carbonation opens up when in the mouth... utterly devine, period. The sourness and mild repreive of the strawberry flavors were perfect for a spring day (as tuesday was just a lovely day out here). Refreshing, tart, finished dry enough to make you want more. An absolutely excellent offering on tap. I don't give 5's easily or often.. and this one pushes me to nearly 5's on all fronts as I can barely find fault with this amazing brew...

verdict?
there is no question this is world class... it made me question my commitment to my "favorite" cantillon (the geuze)... so damn sour and so damn tasty...
like no other beer, cantillon continues to amaze.

Poured from a 75 cl bottle into a Cantillon chalice. Bottled 2013.

Appearance: Poured a one-finger head. Quickly dissipates in thickness, though a thin layer of foam remains on top. Mostly clear ruby red. Moderate carbonation

Smell: Almost all raspberry. Slight funk. Sour notes.

Taste: Very straightforward. Raspberry carries over from the smell, though less sour than anticipated. Starts with the fruit, stays with the fruit. Mild bitterness in the finish. Compared to the Kriek, it is sweeter, but not by much.

Mouthfeel: Pleasant fizz, lighter, but not as light as other Lambics.

Overall: Very straight forward. It is a very good sour raspberry Lambic. Expect that and you will be very happy, as I was. Not that much complexity, but when what you have is this good, you don’t particularly need complexity.

Slightly hazy with a rose reddish color. Low retention on its pinky head.
Sour aroma with good raspberries notes.
Predominant fruity flavor with a nice tartness. Quite funky and not really sweet as other copy cats. Strong as expected on raspberries, with some lemon citrusy. Hints of oaks and earthy yeast with spicy notes. Yeasts going wild. Dry finish.
Light body with decent carbonation and a robust acid feeling.
For this one you got be ready, do your homework first, don’t jump straight to this level on sourness. Go smooth first and climb the ladder.

From a 375 ml bottle (dated September 22, 2012) into a tulip.

A-The brew is a pleasant rose/raspberry color and slightly hazy. There is very little pink head and just a few streams of ultra-fine carbonation are visible.

S-The predominant smell is a funky, earthy fruit-flavored barnyard note. Sweetness and sourness are pretty minimal and the whole thing has a musty feel to it.

T-The taste initially follows the smell pretty closely with funky, earthy, musty flavors up front. However, the sweetness of the fruit builds and the finish is tart and acidic. There is a mild grainy flavor underneath the beer.

M-The feel is light and crisp with the aforementioned finish being long and saliva-inducing. The carbonation is very light.

O-This is not my favorite Cantillon because it lacks some of the vinous complexities that make the other Cantillons so damn good. Nevertheless, this is still a decent beer with good balance of fruit and funk and nice mouthfeel.
