GLUTTONY Triple IPA overindulges the palate with profound malt, powerful hops and abundant body. Its deep decadent golden orange color presents an appetizing invitation for extravagant enjoyment. Its aroma entices with citrus, pine and alcohol while the flavor provides a smorgasbord of sweet malt, fresh tangerine/grapefruit and a resinous hop character that lingers well beyond the finish.

22 oz bottle sent from Mike. This is from the batch released in January 2010, so its ~ 9 months old.

Appearance: Pours hazy, dark orange to almost brownish. Nice softly bubbled head with OK retention. Each sip leaves a big sheet of lacing, but it only really sticks in spots.

Smell: Sweet citrus hops, still a decently big burst. Orange, pineapple, and a little peach or apricot. Sticky pine resin. Malty with caramel and brown sugar smells. It really smells nice-- I wish it was 8 or 9 months younger as right now, its nose is dominated with sweetness.

Taste: Yes, as expected, the bright hops flavors have apparently faded quite a bit. You can still taste some nice pine and citrus fruit, but this has become a big malty bomb. Sweet, sticky, chewy malt awesomeness. The hops are clearly there-- there is a big hoppy bitterness that balances things nicely here. The finish is both bitter and sweet. Really good.

Mouthfeel: Obviously full and sticky. Resiny finish.

Drinkability: It still smells somewhat like a DIPA, but tastes like a hoppy bitter beast of a barleywine. I'd love to try it fresh, when I'm sure its a totally different beer, but as is, its pretty damn good.

calling this a ipa is a stretch to me, much more of an american style barleywine at this level of malt intensity and alcohol. that said though, its a mighty good one. copper to orange in color and woody and dense looking right away. the head is tall and white and frothy and holds well. aroma here is sweet toasted malts, heavy on the crystal, and there is some evident maple and brown sugar notes. the hops are huge too, candied orange and leafy bitterness are both present, power on power here. the flavor is like the nose, lots of strong sweet cereals, a nutty earthy aspect, and a little sugar too. the hops are resinous, weed-like for a moment, and loaded with orange flavor, distinctly so, and some fresh cut pine boughs as it moves along. this is wintery and strong for me, a lot to drink on a hot day, and with long lingering sweetness, hoppy bitterness, and booze, its just huge. i like the bigger body though and the more robust malt complexion, and i find myself polishing the last of this off feeling very pleased. huge thanks to my friend in alaska for bringing this and so many other cool alaskan beers down on his visit, i am a lucky man indeed!

Pours a crystal clear Amber. Has a good 2 finger head. Smells like air. There is no aroma coming from this brew. Super mild hop flavor and a mild malt finish. Very drinkable but not memorable.

Served in a tulip glass straight from a 22oz bomber.

Appearance: Semi cloudy ber body with an oranges tinted off-white head rising to maybe a quarter of an inch. Drops with perfect even lacing after a few sips, looks like a gem.

Smell: Sweet citrus, tangerines and pink grapefruit skin.

Taste: Palate crushing malts, heavy hops with strong alcohol after taste. Citrus skin is very evident with a sweet malt finish. I feel words can't describe the beer except that I am happy that I am not sharing it.

Mouth: Strong hoppy finish...it feels like certain American strong ales I've had but beyond more potent. Little sour at the end but finishes a caramel scotch sweet.

Overall: Honestly and I will use my words to most modest context but this is a savage beast of a beer and can honestly sit with my favorite beer of all time. Maybe the batch varies time to time, or maybe my palate is used to animals like this. I have one beer in mind which carries itself like this one which is a notch more smoother hence the higher (and perfect rating). Drink up and enjoy..Salud!

A: deep amber orange and opaque - looks as smooth as its gonna feel - fat head of frothy and fluffy foam will leave lightly draped laces down the glass

S: big on rich tropical fruits like papaya and mango; some lighter citrus edges and some darker pine undertones

T: the plush fruits from the nose are all present, but rounded off with a barrage of bittering hops, giving a sweet and numbing experience similar to Molotov Cocktail and other fruit and hop-forward big beers

M: smooth and lush, full-bodied, carbonation a dull fuzz amid the bittering hops; sweet and bitter flavors linger; some chewiness and slight stickiness

O: a real decadent triple/double IPA, full of flavors and bitterness - not for the light drinker, but surprisingly drinkable for its heft and abv.

Thanks to ChewyLewy for sharing this one at Retsinis' tasting.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. A foamy lattice of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, and candied citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with candied citrus zest and brown sugar flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice mix of brown sugar and candied citrus zest qualities that make this one reminiscent of a barleywine.

Serving type: bottle.
