CoHoHo begins with generous measures of pale two-row and specialty malts along with spirit-boosters like brown sugar and honey. Hefty doses of Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops beautifully balance that outrageous malt bill while juniper berries heighten the festive character of this exuberant beer.

22oz bomber into a goblet. Bottled 3rd week of September 2011. Pours a hazy burnt/dark orange/copper with light brown hues and 2 fingers of off-white head that really sticks to the glass. Fantastic lacing on the glass as well. Appears nicely carbonated. Bottle says this is a double IPA with bonus ingredients--brown sugar, honey, and juniper berries. 85 IBUs.

Smell is fresh pine and citrus fruits (grapefruit/tangerine). Can also smell some of the malt foundation and a hint of the brown sugar added.

Taste is an upfront hop blast of pine and grapefruit bitter flavors followed by a sweet mellowing from the malt, brown sugar and honey. The juniper berries add a piney and pungent quality that blends well with the piney hops. One heck of a transition between the hops and malts and other bonus ingredients.

Mouthfeel is crisp and lively, also features some slickness from the hop oils. The finish is a bit smoother with the sweetness of the honey/brown sugar.

A delightful holiday brew from MS. Delicious, fresh, and local. I'll be stocking up on these bombers for the next couple months.

She pours a dark reddish color and leaves the same color body with slightly copper edges and a one finger white foamy head that dies immediately. Light lacing sticks to the glass. The smell has a floral malty hoppiness with some orange zest, and grapefruit and honey. The taste has a super malty covered hoppiness in the front and then backed up with a decent hoppy bitterness, long lingering citrus yet hoppy aftertaste, dry finish. On the palate, its about a medium, perhaps somewhat sessionable, and the carbonation seems to be a bit smoother than most DIPA’s, but I’m not complaining. Overall, this is not a bad DIPA, but I’m just surprised how smooth this one rolls around in my mouth to be a true DIPA. Its like its just too good to be true.

Big ol' brownish pour, a little orange running through it. Good 1/5" head on it, smallish.

Aroma was lots of old school hops, didn't have the new school bangers.

Taste was a real bitter banger. Overwhelms any malt sweetness. Shit, the malt bill is heavy, and even that can't keep this anywhere near balance. No way I drop $10 on a bomber of this ever again. Way too much toffee and caramel.

On tap at Spokeasy Public House

A: Pours deep reddish brown with a frothy off white head that settles to a thin layer and laces well.

S: Fruity, caramel and brown sugar sweetness, light citrus, and a little toasty malt.

T: Citrus, grapefruit and a little tangerine, fruity notes, brown sugar, caramel, pine, and bready malt.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Maybe not a super memorable beer, but still tasty.

L: Pours amber chestnut under a thin cream colored foam collar.
S: Brown sugar and honey with some juniper notes.
T: It starts sweet with brown sugar and honey quickly followed by juniper. The uniper nicely balances the sugars and is not heavy handed or over stated. Resiny, piney hops appear in the after taste.
F: Luscious, smooth and creamy, full bodied and chewy, soft in the mouth with slightly below average carbonation.
O: A big beer that achieves a good balance of flavors.

Nut brown with a foamy tan head with great retention. Floral and light juniper aroma. Moderate bitterness balanced by caramel/honey sweetness with a light linger. Honey coating lingering with a robust mouthfeel.

Rather dark, even for a DIPA, this has rich malt characteristics with the honey and juniper lingering subtly in the finish. Flavors become rather muddy quite quickly. It's a fairly disappointing beer because the flavors are subtle but ultimately drowned out by the hops and bland sweetness. I will say I had higher expectations because of the ingredients and price point.

Pours a murky dark crimson-orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, earth, brown sugar, citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with earth, brown sugar, citrus zest, and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is quite earthy all around, but there are some citrus hop aspects that are noticeable as well.

Serving type: bottle.
