On-tap at Beachwood BBQ, from the first review this seems to be the same beer, just 2 years older, from the '04 Imperial Stout,

A: Pours black with a medium tan head, nice retention, no lace.

S: Natural sweet cherries, chocolate, red currants.

T: The flavours of the cherries dominates the overall flavour overtaking the malt. Some heavy acid in the finish. Quite good, the cherry flavour is not artificial and melds well with the base beer.

M: Medium acidity, medium-bodied feel as the beer is soft on the palate with the high ABV, long acidic finish was surprising but pleasurable.

D: Interesting brew, I didn't know what to expect with a beer aged this long but this was nice. Not great, but nice.

Draft at City Beer Store during their barrel-aged beer event. While the idea of a four and a half year Port barrel aged imperial stout with cherries and brett sure sounds intriguing, it's actually one of the most godawful concoctions I've ever imbibed. This might have been interesting minus the brett, but I have to wonder if this stuff wasn't funked up due to some accidental infection. The yeast is all-consuming here, with an overwhelming funk that covers up any flavors the barrel, the fruit or the malt may have added. There's a touch of roastiness, but it's faint. Sourness is moderate as well, this is mainly just funk, and not the good variety. Not an impressive beer.

This is really a hybrid style, and I really thought about listing it as an American Wild Ale instead. It was aged an amazing 4 1/2 years in the barrel, and both that and the introduced Brett have lent it a real sourness and made it an American Wild Ale. That being said, there are still quite a few Imperial Stout characteristics as well. It seems that there are many more stouts going at least partway in this direction, and perhaps one day there will be a recognized sour stout/Belgian stout category that will encompass beers more perfectly like this. For now its listed as an American Imperial Stout because of the fact that it was served as part as a riff on barrel aged Drake's Imperial Stouts that were served as part of a special vent at City Beer Store. This amazing beer was not as sour as the one with blueberries- the cherries seem to lend an added sweetness, but there is still a good wallop of sourness.

Pours black with a thick, dark head and exquisite lacing. Smells of oak and cherry. A good deal more oak than the one with blueberry. Quite amazing that there is so much oak aroma after 4 1/2 years in the barrel. The taste is amazing with bright cherry, huge tannins, and clean port wine flavors all on a base of light stout flavors that lends its own winey complexity and light roastiness and creaminess, although these are definitely eclipsed by the fruit and wine flavors. Smooth tannins in the mouth that add a welcome firmness to the body. Extremely interesting and a pleasure to drink.
