Rochester is a quick drive, just about two hours from the brewery. We’d take 394 to 90 to 490 to… the Inner Loop. This beer is made specially for Rochester Real Beer Week, and is a farmhouse style ale we ferment with real maple syrup from our neighbors at Big Tree Maple, literally next door to the brewery. Although it is made with syrup, we use it in a way that Flemish brewers add sugar, not for sweetness but to help fermentation. Expect a sessionable beer at 5.0% abv, with esters of banana and clove.

This brew was served from the tap at MacGregor’s Grill and Tap Room in Canandaigua, NY. It arrived in a dimpled house mug, glowing a shimmering metallic yellow coloring. It held a one finger head of tight white bubbles, showing great retention, and leaving a single thick sheet of lacing draped around the glass. No haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared to be light. The nose gave fresh strawberries and honeydew melon, pale and metallic grain, baker’s yeast, barnyard mustiness, soured straw graininess, gravel, and white sugar sweetness. With warmth came more foamy plastics, sticky honeys, vanilla creaminess, and lightly soured adjuncts. Our first impression was that the flavoring was sweet and fruity, with a very clean presentation overall. As we sipped, the taste began with bright vegetal metallics, crisp pale and crystal malts, faint toast, basement mustiness, green grass freshness, and brown banana esters sweetness. Moving to the peak was sticky pine, black currant bite, grassy barnyard funkiness, smooth crystal malts, lemon and orange peel, dusty burlap, and mossy greenness. Washing through the end was sunflower seeds, big floral hop freshness, straw and toasty pales, light Belgian yeast spiciness, warming maple sugars, nectarine, and strawberry cream. The aftertaste breathed of lemony citric rind, floral hops, soft wheatiness, gravel, plum and strawberry fruitiness, sweet peas, cooling metallics, vanilla extract, and dirty lactic creaminess. The body was light to medium, and the carbonation was medium to high, with bright prickle to the front of the tongue. Each sip gave decent slurp, smack, cream, and froth, with a light oily coating appreciated around the mouth. This gave way to slick crispness and coolness, with no real dryness. The abv was appropriate, and drinkability was high.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was its taste. This showed grit and funk to the malts, with toasty depth and appropriately fruity sweetness to balance. The nose, on the other hand, was much brighter in the fruit category, actually boxing out a lot of the malty toast there, but allowing enough room for mild funk and soured grassiness to shine through here and there. We also found the maple sugars to be generally lacking all around, but this didn’t really make the beer worse, but rather just disappointed us after reading the beer’s description. Either way this beer was light and crisp, with great drinkability, and just enough ease to poignantly define a beautiful summer day in Rochester.

16oz pour into a dimpled mug.
A: Pours a clear golden with a dense white head. Leaves lots of lacing on the sides of the glass. Just a bit if visible carbonation.
S: Malty aroma with a strong yeast characteristic. Hints of sweetness, the aroma suits the beer being named after a highway.
T: Interesting flavor in this one, has a roasty flavor but also a honey/maple sweetness. Farmhouse qualities don't disappoint, there is a nice earthy tone to this.
M: Light to medium body with ample carbonation. A touch of stickiness but not too bad.
Overall unique in its approach on the saison style. Has more flavors that remind me of a dark saison with an addition of maple syrup.

had acme pizza in Rochester New York. nice light color with nice white head on top. hint of blue cheese on the nose. smells like a homeless man lay down on the inner loop filtered the beer all over him. nice mouthfeel though.
overall this is a perfectly named beer for the smell and taste.
