A-dark brownish cherry colored with a thin almost non-existent cream colored head

S-actually smells almost like tart dark cherries and cinnamon. i smell ginger and also maybe some....curry...i know it sounds weird, but it's true. smells awesome though. very unique. good strength.

T-comes in with the cinnamon, ginger, and yes...the curry. there is no spicy bite to it though, like other beers I've had with a curry flavor. it is an odd mix that is followed by a short bitterness. the after-taste is like a wintery spiced holiday bread. the more you drink it, the more flavors just start to blend together.

M-sticky medium carbonation with a fairly dry finish

O-I'd call this a winter warmer. it's an okay beer, though I expect more from Southern Tier. I got a bit too excited when I first saw this...I didn't know what to expect, but when ST names a beer 2XMAS....i expect it to taste completely like christmas. I'm not sure what that would be, but it wasn't this beer. definitely a decent drinker though, I'm glad i got this...but I probably won't be getting it again. the nose is where this beer should stay.

Chilled 12 oz. bottle into a 33 cl snifter. Bottling date 10.24.12.

Look- Deep ruby amber with a half finger of loose off-white head. Falls quickly, decent lacing. Nice glow.

Smell- Moderately sweet- currant, brown bread, molasses cookies, cinnamon, orange zest. Plenty of fruit and holiday spice. Swirling brings out a deeper, darker plummy fruit aroma and some rum-laced fruitcake.

Taste- Very similar to the aroma. Round, soft fruits with a hint of citrus balance against tealike bittering and warm spice- lots of nutmeg. Spices linger, aftertaste of pumpernickel and mulled apple cider. Nice.

Mouthfeel- Medium body, light carbonation brightens up the sip a bit. Swallow is juicy, full, mild-moderate dusky dryness imparted by the spices. Light for the style, actually. Moderate warming on the back - both spice and booze, but not unwelcome. I could finish two of these no problem.

Overall- Not the best Christmas beer I've ever had (that goes to La Grivoise De Noel), but hits all the right notes and doesn't go overboard. It's also fairly easy to get a hold of (if Southern Tier distributes in your area) and reasonably priced. I'll definitely be picking this one up again.
