Pours an opaque black body with ruby hues at the bottom and a mocha colored head that quickly dissipates but leaves a constant thin, yet sticky lacing.

Aromas of roasted coffee and lactose leap from the glass with rich roasted malt and just a touch of earthy hops.

The flavor robust for a milk stout offering generous amounts of roasted coffee and malt with lactose similar to the aroma and hints of sweet milk chocolate and only a touch of earthy hops.

Medium in body and carbonation, at times offering the thicker palate one expects from an imperial yet with the lighter finish of a milk stout.

I guess this is a bit of a hybrid style, but one can certainly appreciate what ST was trying to accomplish and they did a darn good job in my opinion. This beer is delicious and offers the best of the milk stout with the best of the imperial/American double stout.

12 oz bottle pours a near-black color with a modest tan head..nice lace.

Nose is dark chocolate and licorice. Maybe some herbal/grassy hops.

Taste is lots of dark Godiva chocolate with a hint of roast and more hops than meets the eye. I would lean more American Stout than Milk Stout if I guessed blind, but it definitely has some sweetness going on...nothing like the Blackwater series though. This is a very good beer, I like it quite a bit. Southern Tier certainly knows how to do a stout. I'll be buying more of this in the future.

"Brewd with 2 varietes of hops and 3 types of malts." 12 fl oz brown glass bottle with branded pry-off pressure cap acquired at a premium price at Ramirez Liquor and served into a Mitchells of Lancaster flared stem-tulip in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are high; I usually like Southern Tier. 7.5% ABV confirmed.

Served cold - straight from the fridge - and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a one finger head of lovely tan colour. Good cream. Good thickness. Good (~4+ minute) retention for the relatively high ABV. Body colour is a dark solid black. Opaque. Not quite a jet black. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Spot-on for the style but there's room for improvement. Not unique or special.

Sm: Milky notes, cream, dark malts, chocolate malt. Light hints of fleeting vanilla. No yeast character or alcohol is detectable. A mild to moderate strength aroma. Subtle lactose. No hop character is obvious.

T: Dark malts, a bit of caramel, and chocolate malt comprise the backbone/foundation. Milk chocolate. Some sugary sweetness. A light touch of vanilla. No yeast character or alcohol comes through. No obvious hop character. Not getting any roast. Nicely sweet - not overly so - though many will likely criticize this beer for that aspect. Overall, it's balanced if a biteen simple. Nicely subtle. I like the build. A tasty stout, all around.

Mf: Nicely creamy, smooth, and wet. Complements the flavour profile well. Pretty well carbonated. Apt. I wouldn't call it refreshing, but few beers in the style are. Good presence on the palate. Somewhat soft. Full-bodied.

Dr: A drinkable and enjoyable "double milk stout." I'd definitely get it again, even at the high price (~$6) I paid for it. A solid brew from Southern Tier. Really approachable and drinkable. I'll have no trouble killing this bottle alone. A tasty brew overall. Good execution.
