I'm getting potent smells of tropical fruits like a citrus, mango smell with the resinous herbal smell as well. I also get some underlying rich malt smells. The taste starts off with the bite from the hops with a bready delicious malt background with the mango citrus herbal pine tastes coming through in the finish. I also get a pine bitterness as well. The bitterness isn't off the charts and mixes so well with the alcohol content and the malts.

The malts are pretty rich in this beer and are an excellent backing to the tropical hop profile this beer has. It has a bit of a syrupy body but I really like it and goes well with the malt flavor. This beer could be appreciated by many because the bitterness is there but not too much. The hop flavor really is the winner in this beer.

Get this beer if you find it in stores. It's an excellent example of a Double IPA. Perhaps the best double IPA the East Coast has to offer. Southern Tier seems to be a sleeper or underdog of the breweries out there but is just as good as any high quality craft beer out there.

Beer is a translucent light golden straw color. Pours a large white head with with good retention and moderate lacing. Smell hits first with an incredible smell of pine. Also get grapefruit, orange, resin, and a bit of bread.

Taste starts with a ton of pine and some resin, followed by grapefruit, orange, and lemon. Has a piney, grapefruit, lemon, bready, slighty floral, crisp finish. Mouthfeel is definitely on the light side for a DIPA, with above average carbonation. Normally I would want a heavier body for a DIPA, but this lighter body helps keep the intense piney-ness from being overwhelming, also making it a surprising refreshing 8.2% beer.

Southern Tier's 2XIPA pours golden in color with little head and not much lacing. The smell is pleasing, the taste is fantastic and the mouthfeel is subtle but good. I enjoyed this beer, but it was pricey. I'd have again, but only at a more reasonable price.
