Pours a clear bright golden color. White rocky head holds for a few minutes, then fades leaving a nice patchwork of lace.

Pale malt aroma, just a bit of corn. A touch of earthy hops. Very simple nose.

Very pale malt flavor. A bit cracker-like. Only a faint wheat tartness. Some earthy hops balance things nicely.

Lighter body, with adequate carbonation. Alcohol is hidden. Very easy to drink, althought not a great deal of flavor. Seems a lot like a solid lager.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 3/12/2013. Pours very hazy golden straw color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy bright white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, pear, wheat, bread, pepper, light clove, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and strength of bready malt and fruity/spicy yeast and hop notes. Taste of lemon, orange zest, pear, pepper, wheat, clove, bread, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light amount of spicy floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pepper, clove, wheat, bread, floral, grass, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice flavor balance and robustness of hop, malt, and yeast flavors; with no cloying flavors on the finish as expected. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy, smooth, and crisp mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with almost zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent pale wheat ale! All around nice balance and robustness of flavors; and extremely smooth to drink. Really enjoyed this one; best pale wheat ale I have had yet.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. DOB 03/22/13

A: Pours a mostly opaque light yellowish gold with a full three finger dense white head. Can barely see some carbonation in the haze. Leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Light wheat aroma and pale malt. Bit of a macro aroma to it. Hops are in there too for a touch of bitterness.

T: As anticipated it has a wheat dominant flavor. Not as robust as a full on wheat beer but a lighter take. Hops show up on the backend.

M: Body is nice and creamy with mild carbonation. Reminds fairly crisp and easy drinking.

Overall I feel like it may lose some in the bottling as it taste a bit more robust on tap. Good for the summer time or after breaking a sweat.

Poured 422 into a snifter, seems to be my go-to vessel for consuming beers these days, regardless of style. Anyhow..

Appearance is quite average: it's as pale as a lager (light yellow and translucent) but the very bright and crisp, saving it from a poorer rating. Huge frothy white head redeems 422 as well, and I seem to get a decent bit of lacing, unlike others.

Smell is quite average as well. It has a tinge of BMC aroma to it that I find unappealing, but it does have very light hop undertones along with a natural grassyness to it that works for me. Still, very average smelling beer, nothing special.

Taste is similar, with added grass/wheat flavors; it's light and crisp.

Feel is above average, but only slightly. I get a sense that I could keep drinking this and drinking this, particularly outdoors in the heat of the spring. It's drinkable, and better than your typical lager.

Overall, very average beer for me, even within the Pale Wheat Ale style. It's bright and crisp, and remarkably drinkable, but that does not save 422 entirely. Could be considered sessionable for some. Cheers.

Picked up a single of this brew at my local establishment, Civera's in Drexel Hill. Didn't get a chance to enjoy this on actual earth day due to illness, I still wish to pretend its still that day.

Appearance: pours a golden, straw, pretty transparent coloring. Leaves behind about an inch of frothy, head. Not very impressive considering its a pale ale. Lacing is also kind of disappointing. But not entirely bad.

Smell: hops are quite minimal, but considering the style, it's expected. Some lemon zest is apparent in the first couple of times. The aroma doesn't have as much wheat as I originally expected, but it has some promise.

Taste: has an untoasted malt flavor at first. Quite mild in the hop and bitterness department. Has some grassiness to t, but it fits well. Lemon zest is noticeable with a very mild orange peel. Simple flavors come together with the zest and very little sweetness. Not bad.

Mouthfeel: medium carbonation with a somewhat medium body. Not much dryness on the aftertaste at all. Quite enjoyable. Goes down well.

Overall: coming into this, I was a little unimpressed, but I did like the label. Pale wheat ales are not something I endeavor into too often, but I enjoyed this one. Some things were missing, but nothing I would cry about. Light body, met with a zesty, and clean, crisp finish after taste. I would probably not have again, but would definitely recommend to a friend. Cheers!

A: Hazy straw colored pour. Big, fizzy, pillowy head settles within a few minutes but remains on the surface. sticky lacing. maybe not as inviting as some wheat ales

S: strong citrus, refreshing perky smell

T: sweet, citrus, grass, subtle hop finish. almost gives a bitter beer face though

M: medium body coats the mouth, very little carbonation

O: not bad. but something about the taste that I just don't like. too sweet.

Pours a hazy, yet transparent golden body beneath the pure white head which quickly dissolves to leave just a thin trace of lacing around the glass.

A very pleasant mix of wheat, lemon zest, and floral hops flat from the glass. There is also a touch of grass and flower petals.

Similar to the aroma the flavor offers lemon zest, fresh wheat, and floral notes with a sweeter aftertaste than one may expect.

Lower to medium in carbonation with a body that is fuller than expected with a sweet, yet hoppy finish.

A nice example of the style, not nearly as hoppy as some of its higher rated counterparts and maybe leaning closer to the yeast highlights of its German counterparts.

12 oz bottle in nonic. Pours pale straw color, not unlike a typical light lager. Plenty of white foam. Smells like a typical wheat, with spiciness but also a bit of ammonia. Taste is very similar, dry and crisp, maybe some of the banana you would expect but not a lot. Slightly watery mouthfeel. Not really sure what this is going for and probably won't try again.

A: Clear golden yellow with lots of bubbles and a two-finger, white, fizzy head that lasted more than a few minutes. Pretty good lacing.

S: Wheat. Hay and citrus.

T: Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Wheat, pepper, and citrus. Mild.

M: Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation.

O: Average wheat ale. Looks a bit nicer and smells a bit better than it tastes.

This pours a clear, pale yellow color with only a slight head. The scent is of cheap grassy grains giving it an overall earthy tone. a refreshing beer, nice wheat character without all the fruity yeast notes of a hefe. the nose is a little bland, but the wheat malt is fresh, and the hop profile is very obviously citrusy. lemons and limes even, which feel like a summer brew more than anything. the flavor is pretty good, a nice fusion of hops and wheat, not quite a wheat ipa, as the hops are more balanced than that, but its a crisp and refreshing beer that is very sessionable with its light body and bright carbonation. i am surprised its scored as low as it has on here, since it really isnt bad at all. i think in the spring or summer itd really hit the spot after mowing the grass or something. a front porch drinker for me.

$1.79 for a 12oz bottle @ BevCo. Brewed with "Ale yeast, three of varieties of malts, two varieties of hops" per the website. 5.8% ABV.

Pours out to a very nice pale, lightly cloudy, golden, forming a nice white head with average retention and lacing. Moderate brish carbonation, ~3.0 carbs or so. The nose does not impress. A little fruity, a little yeasty and not much else. No discernable hop nose at all, which is a bummer. Mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing with a medium body, a little bigger than most American wheat ales. The taste is actually pretty good. Despite the lack of any hop nose, there is a pleasant mild hop flavor with a pleasant, well-balanced spicy bitterness which sits nicely with the clean finish.

Typical American wheats are one of my least favorite styles, but this is one of the better ones. I would expect these guys to do something more along the lines of Gumballhead or something. More fruity aroma and flavor hops would do wonders for this beer. Still, it's a decent summer thirst quencher if your choices are limited.

P:  Fuzzy effervescent golden straw body with copper highlights. Quick fading white head that settles to a thin film on top. 

S:  Sweet sun kist wheat, saw dust, leather, ginger, sweet toasted malt, spiced rum, floral and a sting of cinnamon. 

T/M:  Loads of wheat and citrus. Floral hops, alcohol is not really present like the nose, peaches, and a herbal oily coating, followed by green bitter banana.  Flavors are muted and not real clear, mostly wheat in taste. A touch acidic in a light medium feel that finishes dry and chalky and lingers fruit tartness and mild lemon zest.  Cinnamon shows up in the end and creates a hard to swallow feeling. 

O:  My first Southern Tier is a tad lackluster. I expected a terrific beer but got a decent offering.  It's not bad it's just less than expected. The nose was more powerful and started off great. Once warmed the nose was overly boozy. The taste was there but very docile. I would definitely drink this again though.

Yet another wheat ale today.

Pours with very little head. Golden yellow color. Translucent. A bit of haze.

Small number of bubbles. Decent amount of carbonation.

Nose is a disappointment, in that, it just smells like a raw unfermented hopped malt extract.

Taste is more wheatish. Still not upto the mark. Subtle hops and spices but not very clear.

Mouth feel is light to medium bodied.

Very easy drinking beer, only if you like it though. Pretty average.

[Suggested Glassware: Shaker Glass]

The pour was a cloudy medium yellow with a slight orange hue and a small (less than 1 finger) white foamy head that was mostly diminishing with fair streaky lacing.

The aroma was of sweet grain and hay malts, a doughy yeast and notes of citrus (lemon) wheat and a bit of spice (coriander).

The taste was a light sweet, mildly acidic and a tiny bit malty from the onset, then became a tad yeasty with a light citrus peel bitterness and a hint of spiciness at the end. The flavor was kind of short in duration and had a slight wheat citrus taste that was left behind.

Mouthfeel was light in body with a mildly dry texture and a nice soft carbonation.

Overall a nice light, refreshing and tasty Wheat Ale, with a drinkability that would fit right in with your mid summers BBQ's...

Puts a clear golden color with a fleeting one inch white head that dissipates into a layer of foam, leaving minimal lacing.

Aroma is grainy malt, with notes of wheat and a hint of lemony citrus. Smells a bit corny.

Flavor is fairly lacking. Wheat is dominant, accompanied by a substantial grainy malt backbone. Floral hops are subtle. The finish is a slight bit peppery/bitter. Lemony and orangey notes emerge as it warms.

Body is moderate, with moderate to high carbonation.

Overall, a lackluster offering. Nothing bad, but nothing noteworthy.

This beer recently got taken out of year round rotation so I hope it's not too old. Relatively clear golden hue with no head to speak of. Smells of lightly buttered biscuit and dried bread with a touch of wheat.

Pretty bland. Rounded out mouthfeel at least. Flavor profile is much like the nose, subtle, somewhat buttery, whispy, some sour lemon grass. Extremely clean and well rounded. Could work well in the summer as the flavor gets a bit bolder with each sip. But nothing exciting.

T- citrus, a wheat beer but mellowed with a pale taste.

Another of my local trader's, tone77, many bottles to keep me from going CAN crazy. It may be working as I have been running through a lot of bottles lately.

From the bottle: "Make every day Earth Day"; "Simple ways to be greener - bike to t...; shop at thrift stores; use rechargeable batteries; plant a garden; compost kitchen waste; eat leftovers; rollerskate to work; hang-dry laundry; fix leaky faucets; carpool or ride a bus; let the rain wash your car; shovel snow/rake leaves; Est. April 22, 1970". There were others that got obscured by their logo, but that is a fair representation.

My pour netted a finger-and-a-half of fizzing off-white head with moderate retention. Color was a cloudy golden-yellow. Nose had a lemony-citrusiness to it and I became more hopeful. I am not a fan of the banana esters of Hefes and in reading the style description, I became slightly nervous. If anything, it had a pleasant malt backbone as well. Mouthfeel was on the full side, being full of carbonation, and the taste had a tropical fruitiness, like pineapples or mangoes, maybe even guava, but no bananas! The finish was semi-sweet with the fruitiness really leading the way and then lingering. I liked it, especially on a hot, humid summer's day, but I am not sure that I would feel the same way on 22 April. Great for summer, but for the late spring ...?

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a straw yellow color with one finger white head. The head fades relatively fast to leave only a very light amount of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is heaviest citrus and spice. There is a good presence of orange as well as some nice aromas of clove and cardamom. Mixed with these aromas are lighter aromas of yeast and banana with a wheaty bread smell.

Taste – The taste begins on the wheatier side with notes of citrus sweetness. The wheat bread and citrus orange flavors are soon meet with notes of yeast and some cardamom more towards the middle of the taste. As the taste advances some of the citrus orange transitions to a slightly more lemon flavor and is accompanied notes of clove and yeast coming to the tongue at the end.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter to medium side with a slightly higher than average carbonation level. Very average and fitting.

Overall – It is quite easy to drink and has some good flavors. Makes for a tasty session.

A - Clear pale gold, thin white head recedes quickly and leaves little lacing.

S/T - Lightly hoppy, mostly grainy, a little sweet on the back end with minimal bitterness. Slight wheat twang to it.

M - Light body, carbonation feels a bit high, so its not as smooth as it could be.

O - Easy drinker, nice on a hot day, but nothing I'd get again.

Bottled 03 29 12. Poured straw yellow, very little head, lots of carbonation. Very little in the nose, just a whiff grain and grass. Taste and feel is very light, thin, med. carbonation, hint of orange and lemon zest, touch of spice, almost no bitterness. Clean and refreshing brew good if local and fresh at your next BBQ.

A - Pure white head with ok retention and low lace. Light gold with a light opaque sediment of yeast.

S - Nice simple wheat note. Touch of lemon zest around the edges.
