A - Pors inky black with a mocha colored foam that holds well. Laces the snifter glass it was poured into very well.
S - Strong scents of chocolate jump right to the nost. Rasoted malt is dominant. As it settled the smells became more of a hot chocolate. No matter how it comes out, the chocolate smell is incredeible.
T - Translates to the taste just as well. Strong flavors of chocolate, roasty malt, a little bit of fresh coffee, and a warming burn at the end. This is a chocolate lovers dream beer, and from a pure chocolate falvor, about the best I've had in a stout.
M - syrupy thick, coates the tongue. Is really a sipper, and one that is made for dessert or after dinner.
O - Another winner from Southern Tier, and they are becoming a go-to brewery for dominant flavored stouts. For those with a sweet tooth, this is a dream.

9oz pour served side by side with ST creme brulee
A - jet black, with a one finger soapy head. phew they don't call this the blackwater series for nothin.
S - milk chocolate... a great sweetness that I've never detected in other chocolate brews... doesn't really hold the "baker's chocolate" aroma that other choc. brews have.
T - I'd say this was served at about 40 degrees, so it took a little while for me to truly appreciate what this great beer has to offer. Once it hit 50 degrees-ish, it completely blew me away. Huge wave of milk chocolate, and the sweetness is nicely balanced.
M - medium bodied, literally feels like you're drinking a chocolate shake
This is most definitely the best chocolate beer I've ever had. The creme brulee was a bit sweet, and this helped bring things a bit down to earth. This would be the first beer I'd recommend to anyone who wants to sample a chocolate beer for the first time

A - A pitch black body with a small brown head...I was expecting a nicer pour from the nitrogen...decent lacing
S - Only one word comes to mind...chocolate...the aroma is straight milk chocolate with a mild roasted-ness and an underlying hop presence
T - Wow...the flavors work so well together and give this beer a lot of depth...the milk chocolate from the nose is transformed into a dark, bittersweet chocolate flavor...and that's not a bad thing...the chocolate flavor lasts the entire time it's on your palate...the roasted malts add to the boldness of the chocolate flavors...the hops at the end help make the chocolate more bittersweet
M - Medium bodied...nice and creamy, smooth from the nitrogen...the chocolate sticks to your palate
D - This has to be the best chocolate stout...the flavor is literally chocolate...and the 11% ABV is non-existent...although it might be too sweet for some I would have no problem drinking a whole bottle of this...but if you get the chance to have it on nitro...do not pass it up!

This beer is so Choklaty it is like taking a "Choklat" bar melting it adding hops letting it ferment and turning it in to a beer. The aroma is so rich and chocolaty, it is almost unreal how awesome it smells. Again as you sip on it there is a strong chocolate flavor that coats your mouth and a bitter and drying effect it has on the after taste. The beer I think is toooo sweet to drink much of it...although after a day goes by, I can't wait to have another.

Picked up a 32oz growler of last years choklat. Pours a deep rich brown settles black in the glass with a reasonable light tab creamy head. Smells like chocolate heaven. Taste is spot on too. Deep rich decadent chocolate. Like eating a chocolate bar. The sweetness is nicely tamed back from the year of age. Easy drinker, dangerously drinkable with the abv totally hidden. Forgot how good this beer is.

Bomber into Stout glass 12/21/2012
Appearance- Jet Black small off white head
Aroma- Well as you might think, its a lot of chocolate. Really doesn't smell sweet though, its like unsweetend cacao. There are some roasty malts and a touch of coffee poking through as well
Taste-A lot of chocolate, I've had a few chocolate stouts before and this is by far the most chocolate. It doesn't seem artificial though, nice touch of roast on the end. sweet up front but bitterness comes in and finished keeping it pretty balanced. slight alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel- Full, thick, creamy, a little low on the carbonation
Overall- I will admit I'm a little biased towards ST, but I liked this beer. Not something I could drink a lot of, but its the best chocolate stout I've had. Awesome for what it is, and you like chocolate it def worth a try.

Pours like thick chocolate syrup. It's rich and creamy. A sizeable head was produced to my surprise. Mocha brown dense and fluffy and stood it's ground well.
The aroma was of rich chocolates sweet and only the sutle hint of malts proved that it was an adult beverage.
Taste was fantastic and perfect with some kind of chocolate lava cake or somthing.
Rich chocolates and deep yet very sutle malts, some coffee and vanilla. Slight alcohol tingling as it crosses the palate.
A wonderful beer well made.

So close, yet so far! (kind of like Pluto trying to be a planet - haha, sucker!) Anyway, Raul is well good into this thang and he's loving it like his first time he smelt his girl when she first sprayed on some Narcisco Rodriguez - yeah, ooo yeah, baby give me some more! But then, like all things, it kind of wore off. At first this bad sucker was heaven in a basket and Raul wanted to skip his way to the yellow brick road. But as Raul dug more into it, the taste (especially the aftertaste) fell a bit flat. Still good, but damn my minions... so far!

Pour is dark as night and a mahogany dense head.
Smell is of quality rich chocolate syrup and hints of vanilla.
Nothing pretentious here. Taste matches smell except this choklat drink is for the big people. You get mild alcohol burn, but hey look at the ABV.
Creamy milk chocolate coats the palate. No chalkiness, not syrupy at all and not really toot sweet. Alcohol masterfully articulated.
Big bomber you'll want to share. Nice sipper after dinner in lieu of a port. This blows Rogue Dbl chocolate out of the water. This brew holds true to style, hence high marks. A tremendously tremendous craft!

22oz bottle split with my wife.
A: Pours in a solid stream of black ooze. Thin ring of mocha head. Nice legs.
N: Chocolate syrup. Big surprise there, really. Vanilla extract and tons more of the milk chocolate. There are hints of malt and then again..syrup.
T: Bitter chocolate mixed with the syrup. Surprisingly bitter and has an unpleasant chalky taste. Has some smoke and leather elements. Can’t tell if I like it.
M: Pleasantly carbonated with a decently thick body. Alcohol is well hidden.
O: A strange concoction that’s not as sweet as you’d expect and not as complex as you might want. Not great. Oh well.

750ml bottle served in a tulip glass.
A: Pours a brown to black color forming a medium bubbled tan head with low retention and lots of spotty lacings left in the glass
S: Strong smell of dark chocolate. Impressive. Vanilla, roasted malts, cofffe, earthy yeasts and some wood notes
T: Slightly sweet upfront. Again, very strong notes of dark chocolate. Roasted malts, vanilla, coffee, wood, brown bread, wood, earthy yeasts. End in mainly made of a mild roasted bitterness. A bit milky too
M: Creamy and heavy body. Low carbonation. Dark chocolate aftertaste
O: Excellent drinkability. Very smooth beer. A masterpiece

bottle into tulip
appearance: solid black with 1 finger tan head
smell: loads of chocolate, milky chocolate, roasted malt, minty chocolate, amazing smell
taste: huge milk chocolate flavors, not very bitter, just milky creamy chocolatey goodness. Some mint chocolate comes through in the aftertaste, with notes of vanilla and very subtle espresso flavors balanced in.
mouthfeel: so thick and full bodied you may think you're drinking a milkshake....exceptional
overall: I will have to do a blind test with a Stone IRS to determine my favorite, but this is probably equal. Amazing milk chocolate flavors, this is easily the most chocolate dominant stout i've had, luckily Souther Tier is literally everywhere so I will be buying this many, many times again.

A- pours pitch black with a two-finger dark tan head that retains for about a minute after the pour, small patches of lace remain after settling
S- straight up chocolate! The aromas are reminiscent of liquid tootsie roll, melted chocolate bar, bakers cocoa. This without a doubt the most chocolate forward beer that I've ever smelled, it sets up nicely for the flavors
T- exactly as described, pure chocolate. Reminded of a chocolate tootsie pop and chocolate pudding cream pie, the finish has just enough hop bitterness to balance is out but finishes with a bitter-sweet chocolate linger
M- medium body with low carbonation, creamy mouthfeel transitions into a velvety finish with just a touch of warming alcohol at the end
O- this is the perfect dessert beer and a must try for chocolate lovers. This is seriously sweet chocolate perfection that I could drink after every meal. The best chocolate beer out there IMO.

Pours a rich black with an almost nonexistent head. Aromas of freshly ground coffee and chocolate. Taste begins with a big chocolate liqour flavor, then some molasses, finishing with a creamy, bitter coffee taste. Rich mouthfeel. A superb stout. The intense chocolate flavor helps to balance the immense sweetness making a great beer.

A: Pours out pitch black with browns around the edges. There is very little head, and what does show up upon pouring, dissipates quickly leaving no head at all.
S: The nose is big vanilla extract, caramel, and milk chocolate. Yup. It's like a melted Milky Way chocolate bar. Super sweet, super vanilla extract.
T: It starts out sweet with a big burst of vanilla and caramel. It coats the palate and completely destroys it. As the beer slides on, I get milk chocolate and a bit of dark chocolate in the back end as it bitters up. Like a dash of cocoa powder in the back.
M: Full bodied beer. It's not super thick, but it's coating and sticky. It's syrupy and completely envelops the palate. Strong sweetness after the beer it gone.
O: Decent beer. It's mega sweet, but it's not terrible. The vanilla and over the top-ness of this beer is a welcome change from some of the super rare/limited beer tics. This beer has it's place as a dessert beer, and one to be shared with others. I might buy this again to share with friends and family.

L: Deep black with one-finger of brown head, good lacing.
A: Huge bittersweet and milk chocolate notes, coffee, dark cherry, and burnt caramel. Touch of spicy hop, and some nice fruity yeast notes.
T/M: Nice coffee-like bitterness up front, more huge bittersweet/milk chocolate notes, coffee, burnt sugar, dark cherry, hop spice, and a thick sweet finish.
Overall, an insanely chocolate forward stout! It does however have a lot of other great character from the rest of the malt bill, as well as hops, adding some very nice complexity. Forget pairing this with desert, this is desert.

DOB 11/28/11
Black with a solid two finger mocha head that had excellent retention before settling to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left down the glass. Awesome looking stout.
Great chocolate aroma. That is about all that can be smelled besides a hint of alcohol.
Thankfully they did not use a sweet chocolate for this stout. It is bittersweet with some depth to the chocolate flavor. Some stout flavor exists under the chocolate with a little malt flavor. Also a little warmth from the alcohol in the finish.
Deep body with a really nice carbonation. Smooth feel. Fits the flavor perfectly.
Delivers what the name implies. Not too sweet but a bomber is too much for this drinker. About 8oz at a time would be about perfect.

16.9oz bottle poured into a snifter
A: Pours an opaque black color with about a finger of dark khaki head that dissipates rather quickly
N: Right of the bat, dark chocolate with hints of caramel, vanilla, and a slight woodiness
T: The taste follows the nose, straight chocolate with a slight roast flavor. At the end it leaves a bitter chocolate taste that is quite pleasant. The 10% ABV is hidden nicely
M: Full and creamy, the chocolate sticks to the palate for a while (i dig it)
O: Pretty good Chocolate Stout. However this is probably one of those 1 and done beers for me

Jet black with ruby highlights and sepia foam that fades.
Ridiculous nose - straight chocolate truffle dusted in cocoa.
Caramel, brownie batter, hints of blackberry and vague branchy hops.
Bitter cocoa nib linger and perfumed, rosewater linger that lasts forever.
Full, chewy, round.
A crazy beer - tastes more like chocolate than chocolate does. It tastes like *more than one kind* of chocolate - both powdery and gooey. Young's isn't even in the same conversation.
There's also a nice lavender undertone, as TBN pointed out, there's not even a whisper of the 10% ABV and it's never unbalanced.
I don't know how well it works as just a beer - it's more like a chocolate liqueur - but it's the best kind of gimmick and huge fun to drink.

Pours a velvety, syrupy jet black with tan head,
smell- rich milk chocolate, think hot chocolate/ Swiss Miss. a touch of licorice and wood
taste- Chocolate bar up front, pure hot chocolate. I've never tasted such an overtly chocolately beer-- and it's very, very good. Vanilla, a touch of black licorice. Mildly sweet, but then emerge notes of oak, some dark fruits (fig and some cherry), and slightly bitter but lush roasted barley. Finishes with dark chocolate, dark roasted barley and a touch of hop citrus. The tongue is coated with the roasted flavors and warmth of the booze.
Feel- velvety with some bite from the roasted barley and hops. Booze is detectable but fairly mellow. Not very heavy-bodied
overall- For a long time I never gave this a chance. I was certainly pleasantly surprised when I got this on tap after a few other beers I wanted had been kicked. I am very impressed with the richness of the chocolate, while maintaining its balance and not being overly sweet and displaying a great overall flavor profile. Fantastic brew

This is an outstanding beer....Amazing....the brewer gets an A+++ for nailing what the intention is/was. The beer poured an opaque black with 1/2 finger of rich tan head that laced all the way down the sniffer glass. The scent was Nestle Quick....sorry to name brand but the smell was NESTLE QUICK!!!! The taste was a semi sweet chocolate mixed with a slight roasty malt and enough bittering hops to cleanse the pallet. The mouthfeel was a full bodied ale with smooth carbonation. Overall....awesome...a perfect desert beer...a perfect winter warmer....a perfect fireside chat beer...did I mention it smelled like NESTLE QUICK!!!
