Quality: The only fishiness is in the seafood dept, and it's flippin' delicious. Trust me. I go to this store nearly every day for something or other. The only reason I give it a 4.5 instead of 5 is that all the organic-hippie crap bread has a tendency to grow mold before you get it home. To hell with bread though, the steaks are awesome.
Service: The truly outstanding thing about this store is the fact that the employees actually seem to give a damn about what they're selling. Mark and the other guys in the beer department are very friendly and knowledgable, and they take the time to get to know you and what you like.
Selection: Great selection of Belgians! Once in awhile I get disappointed when I go in looking for a particular micro-brew that they either no longer carry, or are simply out of. At the same time, they ALWAYS have new stuff.
Value: They don't call it Whole Paycheck for nuthin'. However, I've actually found that some of their items are less than at other places. For example, I was there this evening (of course) and they had Old Rasputin for 7.49, while at the Ralph's down the street it's 8.99.

When I walked in the first thing I saw...well, it was flowers actually...but the second thing I saw was a deal on Goose Island beer. That excited me, just for the fact that WFMs are more known for their healthy food items, not their beer. However, it took me a while to locate the actual beer section and it wasn't quite as awesome as I'd hoped. Don't get me wrong, it was good. They had various Stone products like the Vertical Epic 060606, and numerous English ales like Fullers, including the 2005 Vintage Ale and Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout which you don't see at your typical liquor store. There were plenty of microbrews such as Alesmith, Rogue, Ballast Point, Avery, SN, Sam Adams, Anchor, Full Sail, Speakeasy. But their selection of Belgiums was kinda weak, especially compared to the WFM location on 3rd Street in LA.
Aside from the beer, I didn't have the problems the other reviewers seemed to. The parking seemed quite adequate, I didn't notice a fishy smell, the place was clean, and most of the clerks are hot young ladies. Lisa Bonet was even there to boot. Come on, you can't get all that at just any old place!

The parking lot is awful and most of the spaces are too small, but I've never not been able to find a space and I come here pretty often since live 5 minutes away. This Whole Foods has a slightly better beer selection then the Northridge store. It's the same set-up as all of the other Whole Foods'. A big cooler for most of the micros, imports, and better, but not much better, macros and a few shelves for Belgian, Belgian-style beers, and pricier brews like Hair of the Dog. I went to the Northridge after one of my classes to buy a few bottles of Stone IRS, but I passed on them after seeing the bottles roasting (maybe it's in my head) in the florescent lights on the top shelf of the cooler. The WH WF had some Stone IRS on the top shelf of their cooler, but they also had about three stacked cases on the floor. They charge $4.59 where as BevMo charges $4.99 for IRS. I suppose that having the cases out could have been more about luck then quality, but I'll give the WH store the benefit of the doubt. BevMo is a wee bit better; this is a wee bit closer to me.
[Edit] It is true that this Whole Foods has distinct odor. Another reviewer described it as fishy smelling, which might also be accurate, but I've isolated the Whole Foods funk. It's dog breath. My dog jumped on me and she had her mouth wide open. As I turned my face away I thought, "Ah, ha! That's what the Whole Foods smells like."
[Edit II] They just got a whole bunch of good stuff. Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel, Fantome Saison, Meantime IPA and London Porter. Very nice!

The first time I was in one of these stores and I can not say I was not impressed one bit.
#1 Horrific parking conditions, if you can even find a spot.
#2 The store STINKS in the literal odoriferous sense. The place REEKED of fish. Any cook can tell you that if it smells like fish it is a BAD piece of fish.
Not all that easy to find the beer as it is a very small part of their business.
Once you find the beer there is only one cooler and one rack for the Belgian brews. There were several off beat brews available, but there were also plenty of empty holes where the beers had sold out.
GAH I probably will never step into this store ever again, It did not give me the impression of being very clean at all.
Prices are very high, $10 for a bottle of Hennepin? No way!
I can't recommend this place for anything except looking for weirder beers.

The Woodland Hills Whole Foods is the biggest of these Markets in the Valley and as such has probably the biggest selection of beer. This is about a mile east of the Home Beer Wine Cheesemaking Shop and a half mile south of the BJ's Brewery.
Belgian beers are on one side of the deli counter with all teh funny cheeses. Most of the Belgians are kept at room temp.
Across the way in a brightly light beer case is the selection of American, German and English beers. Not too shabby here, always reliable for Lagunitas, Rogue, Stone, etc.
Some of the beers I've gotten here have been a bit past their prime for their storage conditions and sometimes you stumble across things like the Oud Beersel that make you wonder how old the bottles really are.

All of the Whole Foods Markets I've visited have at least a decent selection of beers, with an emphasis on Belgians. However, Woodland Hills is the best of the lot. In addition to a separate Belgian section with the likes of Delirium, Abbaye des Rocs, Bornem, Chimay, and the occasional Rochefort, they've got a big selection of Germans and US brews. The two Whole Foods in Sherman Oaks also have good selections, although Riverside and Coldwater tends to stock a wider variety. The only downside is that you've got to run the gauntlet of organic food nuts who look down their noses at anyone who woud deign to drink anything as unhealthy as beer.
