Served in a 0.30l glass when you order it at the brewpub in Düsseldorf as I did in November 2023 for the great price of €3,60. Quite a rich beer. Perfect for the shit weather this time of year. 50s, windy, rainy, grey. It’s lovely weather in Germany. Malt profile is bready with plenty of char and earth. Unique for the style/seasonal offering. Still not sure if Weihnachtsbier is considered a separate style but in this case it certainly seems to be. This is unique enough to justify a special classification. For an "Altbier", it’s outstanding. Better than their traditional Altbier, which was not obvious/expected. Delicious!

Pours an almost black, ember coal color, with a huge, froth head.
Smells of toasted malts, peppery clove, banana, honey and toffee.
Has a very smooth moutfeel, which is silk, almost creamy. Tastes of burned, bready malts, which define the character of the beer. Got a decent note of toffee sweetness, which comes along with peppery spices and bakers chocolate, revealing a smoked hint. While it provides possible sweet flavors, the beer is actually dryer than the normal version, as a gentle amount of hops wrap the malts up, supported by a slightly metallic carbonation. Finishes dry, with toasted, earthy, slightly salted honeyed malts.

Received in trade with Erzengel, cheers mate!
Christmas Eve- a fitting day to try this alt as it's the only day it's served from the wood at the brewpub, wish I was there!
Bottled on 8 Nov 2011, 8 week shelf life gives BBE 3 Jan 2012
A- copper body with excellent clarity. 3 finger creamy head has very good retention and lacing
S- Peppery note with some toasted malt, little biscuit and doughy bread quality
T- toasted malts with a hint of toffee intermingle with the pepperiness and a hop presence that is assertive gives good balance but doesnt dominate the palate.
M- enough carbonation, retains a softness and medium body that is just perfect.
D- a truly cracking alt! Superb balance on the palate and a mouthfeel that makes it so so drinkable. World class.

Picked this up at the Füchschen Brauerei while on vacation in Düsseldorf. Clear copper-amber pour with a creamy, two finger head and great lacing and retention. The nose is earthy and herbal. Lots of tea with hints of bread, grass, and a touch of metal. The taste is a lot like the Füchschen Alt, with more of a herbal, hoppy character and a bit more malty sweetness. Lots of bready malt and tea, but I'm also getting a little bubble gum as well. The balance is perfect with a smooth mouthfeel and a great tangy, bitter hop finish. I'm really kicking myself for only getting one bottle of this.

The bottle looks really good, really christmas-like, the beer in the glass is also nice. Very zippy, nice creamy head. Starts strong and dry, good use of hops, a bit woody. Prickly finish, modest spicy-fruity, still warming dry. Well balanced. Good beer.

[NOTE: This is a slightly stronger (5.2% vs. 4.5% ABV) version of Füchschen's Altbier available only at Christmastime.]
A: Pours a brilliantly clear deep amber with an ample off-white head.
S: The straw-like smell of noble hops co-mingles with sweet, bready munich malt.
T: Interestingly, a somewhat pithy herbal hop taste greets the tongue. However, it quickly gives way to a wonderfully sweet malt flavor, with notes of sweet breads, honey and even a hint of sweet lemon. A crisp, earthy noble hop bitterness--characteristic of Duesseldorf Altbiers--gives this beer a nice finish that keeps the sweetness well in balance without leaving it overly bitter. A perfect balance of malt and hops.
M: Typical of an Altbier, it's fully carbonated but not overly so.
D: The wonderful balance of this beer lets you easily come back for more.
Overall: An awesome beer. Wish I had the chance to try this side-by-side with Uerige's Sticke Altbier, as it just might give Uerige a run for its money. I can only hope that this is one day exported to the U.S.
