Pours a clear golden color with a foamy white head atop.
Smells of wet straw, old tin cups, dried forest herbs, and bready toffee.
Has a light mouthfeel with a medium carbonation, creating a decent freshness.
Tastes of straw, sweet, caramel accompanied wheat, and even more toffee. This turns pretty sweet very soon, providing a late and almost too light herbal hop balance. Finishes with some copper, prevailing toffee and a watery nothingness.
This might be above an industrial made lager, but just the tiniest notch.

I kind of like märzen beers, it's one of the few I can drink and even enjoy to some extent (along with festbock and vienna lager) in Austria. Zipfer is kind of a mainstream company (Brau Union) so I didn't have high hopes.
It is not bad but nothing extraordinary either. At least it's not awful! It has that märzen-like taste, that hoppy flavor but this one is kind of fizzy with crisp carbonation and leaves a kind of thinner and dry/bitter aftertaste. But then again, compared with Euro Lagers, this is still heaven!
Great to drink with food to take it's flaws away.
