Notes:
With the recent explosion of over-the-top hopped IPAs, we wanted to return to an India Pale Ale that was well-hopped, but still balanced and smooth. Our brewers wanted to name it after one of our hardworking staffers, so we decided to name it after Dave—the new guy. This beer is made with one hundred percent Columbus hops and only one malt, yielding a nice earthy tone and spicy flavors. Columbus hops have a citrusy profile, which is more subtle than that found in most IPAs.

bottle into chalice

A - pours 1" head, slowly dissipates, moderate lacing. cloudy amber/brown color

S - bread, hops, citrus

T - bready, hop bitterness, a little lemon/orange citrus, great amount of malt flavor just enough but not too much to overshadow other flavors

M - medium to full bodied

O - really like this beer. nothing that really stands out, but a solid all around IPA that is very drinkable

A- Poured into a goblet with a semi-hazy apricot orange body and a white head. The cap forms to about one finger in height. Head texture is frothy and creamy and a bubbly ring leaves small patches of lace.

S- To me it is one of the more balanced IPAs, dare I say New England style. I get caramel, fresh cracked cereal grains and yeast bread right off the bat. Some apple fruits and of course the hops. Hops lend citrus zest and floral notes.

T- Following the nose in many aspects. I get a lot of grainy hints like fresh cracked barley when I home brew, apple, white grape, light caramel and some sweetness. Hops lend pine, herbal, floral and citrus flavors.

MF- Light end consistency overall to the body with a fairly creamy feel. Carbonation at a high level as it fills the palate with a slight sting. Moderate bitterness in the finish.

Pretty balanced compared to most modern examples of this style. Not just a hop bomb but yeast and grain flavors come through pretty nicely and it all works out in the end.

Pours a medium copper color with a smallish white head that quickly dissipates leaving spotty lace on the sides. Smells of rancid popcorn with and earthy sulfury thing going on. Toffee and caramel maltiness. The flavor is bitter sweet and malty with caramel and burnt buttered popcorn making up most of the flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. I have a sensitivity to diacetyl and can spot it when others don't, this beer is has enough that it makes it unpleasant for me to drink.

Dark amber and dissolved with hop haze. Light ring lacing.

Fresh floral soap and citrus aroma. Some light toastiness. Nothing special, nor offensive. Rather sweet and a little perfumey.

Dialed down hops with low bitterness, style considering. Floral hops and orange/grapefruit citrus. Very mellow and benign. Enjoyable, if you think of it as a pale ale.

Low carbonation and medium-light body. Easy to drink, at least.

Not very representable as an IPA. Still tastes like a nice craft ale.

Wow, I love IPAs, but this just falls so short of the mark for my palate.

It looks good and the smell is decent, but the taste is way off for me. I am not sure of the hop profile, but to me, it tastes like an odd blend that isn't well balanced with the malt profile.

Overall, I am glad I just had a taste of this as I would have been severely disappointed if I have paid for a full glass.

This is a decent at best IPA. Kind of nutty, oddly. Mild tang to it. Isn't really working, as far as the style goes. Consistent flavor. But the flavor is lacking for the style. Just isn't my thing. Needs a greater defined bitterness and some accents from hops.

Bottle foamed over upon opening. I could not pour the beer into the glass all at once due to the foam, which takes 10 minutes or so to settle. The beer has a very rocky off-white head, and a hazy golden hue. The smell has a hop dominance with a little sweetness to it. There is some graininess as well. The taste is faint grain up front, followed by a substantial bitterness in the back of the mouth. There is little actual hop flavor, just an overbearing bitterness. In the mouth, the beer has a moderately thin body, and is way overcarbonated. I did not enjoy this beer at all. The malt flavor does not balance out the bitterness, and it does not have a good hop quality. Perhaps I got a bad batch, but the entire 6-pack I picked up had the same qualities.

Large, slowly dissipating head. Leaves a dome as it recedes. Some spotty lace with chunks. The liquid is dirty gold and cloudy.

Pleasant floral aroma of fresh hops. Attractive and balanced for the style.

This is a solid IPA. Nothing extreme, but completely fits the profile. Starts with a pale malt flavor, but the spice of the hop comes in quickly and strongly. The aftertaste is peppery and long lasting. The body is moderate with a slightly elevated carbonation. I'd love to see this in a flight. I think it would score more highly in a blind tasting.

Pours a fluffy almost creamy but bubbly 1 finger head that fades semi slowly with some foamy lacing, over hazy sediment filled milky honey orange color.

Nose has some lighter hops, a bit grassy and earthy, hint of citrus and fruit, bit of an earthy yeast like almost saison earthiness, light stale hops, hint of sweet amber malts.

Taste starts with herbal hops, very herbal and vegetative, grassy, chewy, with a decent bitterness. It has the hop taste of a U.K. bitter, the kind I don't like, Hedgerow like hops I think. Some light sweet amber malts as a base. It almost gets vegetable oil feel. Finish is drier with a long quite bitter lingering, with more herbal earthy grassy hops and vegetal flavors, like decaying vegetables.

Mouth is med bodied, pretty good carb, but a slight oily feel.

Overall not my style, not a bad beer overall but the kind of hops I really don't like. More like U.K. style bitter

Beer is a hazy coppery amber, with some solids (presumably yeast) suspended in it. Nice aroma: bread, yeast, some grapefruity hops. Taste is malt up front with a nice hoppy finish. Lots of grapefruit rind. The hops are nicely balanced. It is a pretty complex hop profile. Mouthfeel is fine. Overall, an entirely decent IPA. Not overwhelming, not a big hop bomb, but balanced and reasonably complex.

A - This one exploded with carbonation. A dense full inch of off white head atop of some hazy colored orange tint beer. Tons of microscopic floaties means extra B vitamins for me. yeah... not into that sort of thing.

S - Smell is very subdued with very little citrus or pine hops just gram cracker malt all the way.

T - Very average taste just mildly bittering hops (piney) with minimal balance of cracker like malts (kind of off putting) The pine does stick around for a bit so it's just OK.

M - Light to medium with passable flavors.

Overall not something to buy even on occasion this IPA is just drinkable to be a one and done.

Poured into a standard pint glass, color is copper to amber, head is dense and off white to light tan and laces nicely.

Smell is slightly toasted malt, maybe some oats(?) quickly followed by hop notes on the fruity side.

Taste is clean, a little sharp bitterness - malt flavor is toasted and pretty neutral, not over sweet.

Mouthfeel is IPA standard, solid carbonation, good bitterness overcoming slight malt sweetness.

Overall, a very solid IPA, scents were pretty neutral but taste and mouthfeel were very pleasant.

A: The beer is hazy darker shade of yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin but dense off white head that hardly died down, leaving lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of earthy and spicy hops in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste of this beer is all about the hops and has notes of earthy and spicy flavors along with hints of citrus hops and grainy malts. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied, somewhat crisp and a little chewy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: There's nothing overly special about this IPA but it does a pretty good job of having an interesting spectrum of aromas and flavors for a single hop beer.

12oz extra sent to me by Valdieu. Thanks!

A: Pours a murky brass with a small white head.

S: Apricot and slight citrus, caramel malt and some Ringwood-like esters.

T: Mild citrus hop notes and a piney, oily bitterness, followed by bright grainy malt.

M: Medium-bodied with light carbonation.

O: Not undrinkable but not very good. This beer needs some fixing before it can be called a good IPA.
