Notes:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter.
We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Atlantic Coal Porter is a dim brown-black ale with a thick, dense, creamy head that has outstanding retention and lacing. It has a dark, roasted coffee aroma. It's pretty full bodied and smooth. The finish is light, but leaves the teeth a touch gritty. It has a dark, roasted flavor. It's pretty dry and there is a leafy, bitter finish that lasts a while. It's a simple, yet reasonably robust, porter.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a dark, hazelnut highlighted, brown to black coloring with a ring of off-white film around the surface. Aromas are roasted and bittersweet, with a chocolatey backbone and hints of vanilla and smoke. Flavors are roasted also, with a bittersweet chocolate backbone and some toffee and vanilla highlights lightening up the palate. Decently balanced on a thin, smooth body, the beer has a slightly roasted, bittersweet aftertaste with a dry, mid-lingering finish. Decent brew, and very drinkable.

Pours a crystal clear dark brown with faint garnet highlights at the edges and a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates. Smells of caramel, cocoa, milk chocolate, and hints of roasted coffee. Light earthy hop and an almost creamy sweet aroma comes through. The flavor is like coffee milk. Sweet roasty milk chocolate and caramel with hints of sweet cream. Little to no hop flavor. Medium body with a sweet silky mouthfeel and a light level of carbonation. Decent porter and certainly miles ahead of that "ipa". I enjoyed it and would have it again.

A faint black malt smell, very light on the tongue. Bitterness lower then I would have thought but did work with malt flavour. Pale, Chocolate, Dark malt combo, little head retention, dark in colour. Over all flavour nice and drinkable. Art work on the label gave a small town feel. This was a good find. I wouldn't have thought this was 6.5% abv, alcohol not noticeable at all. I bought this in a mix pack at a hardware store in the middle of no where outside Stowe, Vermont on a road trip with my Dad after getting lost on the way to the Farmstead Brewery. Good times, and a nice reminder of the trip.
