American Porter |  5.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (150), on-tap (8)

Notes:
Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac's Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.

341ml bottle from a 6 pack purchased at the LCBO.
Pour: pitch black with a tanned, half-inch head and sticky lacing.
Smell: brown sugar and coffee.
Taste: chewy black coffee beans, roasted malt, and nuts. Hints of chocolate in the finish.
Mouthfeel: starts off rich and full-bodied, ends with a dry, clean aftertaste.
Overall: a highly drinkable porter, but the beer has one flaw - the Balzac's coffee provides a caffeine kick that I personally don't enjoy, especially when I want to drink one of these before going to bed. Nevertheless, a solid beer.

Mill St. 'Coffee Porter' @ 5.5% , served from a 6pack of 341 ml bottles purchased for $14

A-pour is a dark brown with some ruby red highlights along the glass edge ,
with a small off white /tan head leaving a minimal lace film along the pint glass

S-not over powering with coffee but hint's of also some chocolate breaks thru
(coffee smell needs to be stronger)

T-theres more coffe in the taste , smooth crisp porter , easy drinking ,
even with the bitter finish

MF-low/mild carbonation , medium bodied , bitterness lingers on the palate

Ov-ok/good beer , needs to be stronger smelling coffee , yes I'd buy again

sampled alongside Deschutes 'Black Butte' , Paddock Wood 'London Porter'
& Powell St. 'Dive Bomber' Porter

Poured from 355ml bottle. Pours a deep brown/black colour. The nose has roasty notes of dark chocolate and coffee. The flavours are classic porter—chocolate, smoke, coffee—with a nice hit of black coffee bitterness on the finish. The mouthfeel is wonderfully creamy and satisfying.

After pouring from a 341 mm bottle into a pint glass, it's appearance was average. A lack of carbonation and small head with little retention and little lacing was the initial impression this beer gave.

The smell seemed promising with a strong sweet malt scent mixed with dark roasted coffee. At least the smell made the beer seem promising.

The taste was way to malty and much too bitter. It left a strange tar like after taste that seemed to stick to the roof of the mouth and back of the throat that wasn't at all reminiscent of coffee. Only a strong discomforting overpowering burnt sweet malt flavour.

Medium bodied and far from smooth that is typical of coffee stouts the porter doesn't go down nicely, and moreover the lack of carbonation bothers the palate.

Overall the coffee beer is not an inspired porter at all and I personally only finished about 6 ounces out of the twelve that was in the bottle. Unsatisfying and a discomforting taste.

Pours a near-black with auburn highlights at the edges of the glass. Good looking coffee-coloured head disappears quickly, leaving little lacing in its wake.

Surprisingly limited, a mild aroma of roasted dark malts with a hint of smokiness and roasted coffee beans. However the taste is impressive, with the full roasted spectrum of chocolate and dark malts plus brewed coffee flavours. Finishes with a nice bitterness, that lingers for longer than I expected.

Not a beer that I see often on tap, but probably one I should pick up at the LCBO more often.
