OK Springs 'Brewmaster Black Lager' @ 5.0% , from a 6pack of 330 ml bottles ,
(originally had on tap @ GCBF 4.5 rating)
A-pour is dark brown/black with a fine tight tan head , leaving spotty lacing along the stein
S-roasted dark chocolate malt
T-smooth taste , not as crisp as I remember it tasting on tap ,
MF-mild/medium carbonation , medium/full body
Ov-tasted better on tap @ GCBF (won my Bronze Medal) , but still a good beer in the bottle form

cheers LampertLand

Purchased from a sampler. Pours a very fizzy black not unlike coca cola with two fingers of beige head. Smells malty with some burnt marshmallow notes, and I'm also making out some coffee here too. Pours very thick, though it doesn't feel that way in the mouth. Mouthfeel is very smooth, but you get some carbonation on the tongue for sure. Taste is not as great as I would have wanted. I'm tasting some coffee, but it's not bitter, just somewhat unpleasant. Aftertaste is sour, although this may be attributed to the bottle being in my fridge for six months. I'll try a fresher bottle when I can, but if the next one is like this, I'm not making a repeat purchase.

Looks and smells great though.

Sampled at Le Mondial

Poured from a 341ml. bottle.

Appearance: A cola brown body with a fat finger of dark brown foam.

Smell: A certain nuttiness mixed with some grainy coffee.

Taste: A mix of light charcoal, dark Munich malt and light molasses in the tail end.

Mouthfeel: Crisp yet strong bodied for the style and carbonation is spot on.

Overall: An enjoyable take on a style that isn't readily available.

Great looking dark black. Lets some light through. Can smell the roastiness right away. A little coffee too. Good malt flavor, hop bitterness comes through late. Carbonation is a little high, but still very smooth. Not heavy at all. Pretty good overall

Got this in the 4 beer variety pack...

A- Black as night in color, but I can tell that it is very clear by looking towards the top of the brew. The head is decent, but nothing to write home about, being about a finger thick of tan colored foam, before settling rather quickly into a creamy layer over the brew. The lacing is decent, with a nice patchwork of shapes clinging to my glass, but do eventually slip back into the beer...overall nothing exciting to look at, but I've seen much worse too!

S- Very nice aromas happening here...lots of almost burnt toasty malt to smell up, along with pure unsweetened cocoa powder, and dare I say even some woodiness?!....there is a meaty character noted as well...that's the best thing I can come up with to describe it...mild beefy aroma I guess. There are hints of graininess and burnt earth noted as well. There is some mild hop bitterness contained as well, but nothing major.

T- There is some definite coffee flavor going on here, as well as bakers' chocolate, and some bittersweet molasses. Other than this, the flavors are made up of roasted, even slightly burnt barley malt, and there's just a tinge of herbal hop bitterness right at the end...not a bad tasting beer at all to be honest, but I don't think it could outdo other Schwarbiers.

M- This is clean and crisp, yet has some chewiness mixed in there as well, due to the more intense flavoring noted. The carbonation is refreshing I find, and really helps to let the burnt/toasty character explode on the palate. Lite/medium bodied would best describe this brew.

O- Overall I think this is a fairly decent brew, and I think the best one that I've tried from this brewery. This would make a fine meal beer, and would do well as an ingredient in a beef stew. I do recommend giving this a try and while its very good, I think with a little more tweaking, it could be great!

Got this as part of a mixed 12-pack from Okanagan Spring. I haven't been blown away by their beers yet, hopefully this "Brewmaster's" edition is alright.

It pours a very dark reddish brown colour, and is practically black under ambient light. The head is thin, yet creamy and light tan in colour.

The aroma is quite nice! Toasty malts and molasses come through to start, with a strong chocolate cake backbone. It smells delicious without being too overwhelming.

The flavour is toasty up front, and then the chocolaty notes come through towards the back of the mouth. It finishes on a slightly bittersweet note.It manages to be relatively light and balanced, and has a clean finish. It is a refreshing dark lager that isn't too heavy.

Overall, this is a step above the other Okanagan Spring beers I've tried. I would consider it if I wanted a black lager in the future.

Bottle from a 6-pak. Black with carb bubbles, soapy light brown head, lace. Aroma of mollasses and malt. Above average carbonation. Some creaminess. A cross between an ordinary brown ale and a shwartz beer, not hitting the style, and the carbonation of a macro.OK drinkability.

Appearance. Deep brown, almost black with a small tan head that doesn't last long or leave much lacing.

Smell. Grainy with just a little roast. Hints of coffee and licorice.

Taste. Lightly roasted grains, a little herby, floral hops. Slightly sweet.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with smooth, medium carbonation. This beer's stronger point imo.

Overall. Easy drinker. Pretty subtle flavours with nothing offensive.
