Koelle and Roy at St. Louis Wine and Beermaking have been my local homebrew store since I started brewing in 1994. I can not recall an instance where I was given any bad or wrong advice from either of them. Both have always shown genuine interest and care in answering questions, or just discussing brewing - whether its truly a unique question, or one they have heard from every new homebrewer.
The selection is miraculous for the size of the store, and the quality of the ingredients are never compromised - the yeast, grains, hops and extract are always very fresh. If you can't find something, just ask - its probably there somewhere. If it isn't there ask why - there is usually a reason why the store does not stock a particular product - it may be that it offers poor value, fails to perform as well as other products, or the supplier/company might be unreliable.
Everything I could want from a local home brew store.

Overall impressions: I made some of my best beers with ingredients from this place. The owners are fantastic people and have been extremely helpful.
Quality - The yeasts I got from here was always very fresh. In fact I was so used to poor yeast that I blew the top of my carboy when I first pitched yeast from here because I wasn't used to such good fermentatin.
Service - These guys will talk with you as long as you have questions. I first came here on National Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day (on whatever one is around 4 Apr). They let us into the back and gave us samples of some of the beers they made there on the side. We went through a big brew and they raffled away the wort in 5-gallon batches!
Selection - It was as good as any homebrew shop I've been to so far. I've never not been able to get any ingredients here (that weren't unavailible everywhere else).

Quality: I've never seen (or heard of) anything there that wasn't fresh and in tip-top shape. Good lay-out of the product as well, as everything is easy to find.
Service: Top notch. The couple that runs the place have been in the biz for what seems like forever and are always extremely helpful. They were especially helpful when I was starting out with homebrewing.
Selection: Although the store is fairly small, they have quite the selection of goods. If they don't have something you want or need, they can probably get it for you quickly and for a fair price.

With the number of local shops few and far between it is great to have a high quality shop lke this one.
First the staff is great. Tons of knowledge and very helpful. They are interested in what you are brewing and can offer great tips to help. A beginner should make this the place to start.
Ingredients are fresh and high quality. Even with the hop shortage they have plenty and better yet have the knowledge to make substitutions. Yeat is always top notch
Plenty of books, tools and equipment to keep you browsing and upgrading.
Prices are in line. Some high, some low, but average out to be fine even compared to the online shops when you figure in shipping.
You cannot go wrong with a trip to this store; and they usually have a sample oft heir own homebrew to try while you shop.

With extended hours for the holiday season (open mondays and 9 am - 6 pm Sat. - call or email info@wineandbeermaking.com for details. As I moved a $100 of homebrewing supplies and materials for culturing yeast slants - I got to know David Deaton and share a couple of homebrews from the nitro tap. No dust on ingredients that are priced reasonable. Selection of malts and yeast is excellent, may need to call ahead to arrange you hops as someone is likely to buy out the smaller amounts that they keep on hand to insure freshness. Saw large CO2 cylinders - did not ask but it looks like they refill smaller tanks.
A excellent cross section of supplies for those new to homebrewing.
An excellent homebrew shop overall.

I visited this store recently for the first time. It's a bit out of my way, but I had a gift certificate for the store. They had everything I needed to make a few batches of beer. The person at the store at the time was very helpful. He was like a personal shopper for me. I had my ingredients needed written down, and he walked to the shelves and got everything for me. Then he took my steeping grains and milled them for me. If this place were closer to me, I'd frequent the store often. As it is, it's a bit of a drive for me, but I will make a point to drop in again when I am in that area.

This place in Lamp and Lantern Village is pretty far from the City, where I live, but it's established itself as the go-to retailer for homebrewing in the area. I've been twice now and have been greeted at the door, helped with everything I need, and given suggestions and ideas. The selection is very good and the place seems relatively new and clean. The prices were just a bit higher than what I expected based on my small amount of past homebrewing experience. Otherwise, great place and highly recommended to any homebrewers in the St. Louis region.

Great place. Little bitty shop with somewhat odd hours. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable service from the couple who owns the store. The ingredients are kept in good shape and the prices are reasonable. Selection of malts and yeast is excellent, hop selection is a bit small, but that's understandable as they're trying to keep their stock fresh and high quality.
A full selection of gear, all kept in good working order. Again the prices are reasonable. It cost me no more to purchase my party pigs from the store than it would've to order them online fromt he manufacturer.
Just about everything I could want in a local homebrew shop.

The original shop was small and seemd to be priced a little high, and the selection was not so good. The new owner(s?) and larger location in essentially the same plaze have made a huge difference. Prices are much more competitive, and the selection of hops, yeasts, and malts are very good. they also have a very good supply of other brewing hardware and seem pretty knowledgeable if you ask questions. They also host learn to brew seminars which are great for beginners or folks wanting a taste of what homebrewing is all about.

I am still loyal to the Home Brewery in Ozark but this place is good. It was a little smaller than I had thought it would be but they pack a lot in. There is a huge selection of tools and gadgets. Almost everything is out where you can get to it. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The gentleman that was working that day was helping several people that were in the store at the same time and didn't even blink. It was like he was having several discussions at once and it did not phase him one bit. I would say the best service I have had in a homebrew store. He was even giving out tips. The store is clean and has a great selection of ingredients. I did have a little bit of a hard time finding at first but it was worth it this place is a treasure. The prices were very reasonable and they seem to want to help you budget.
