12 Days of Christmas #9
Beer number 9 from Aldi Australia's 2023 Christmas Beer pack, courtesy of Kalea. I'm not doing these beers in order.
Vessel: 500ml Pint can. Best before March 2025.
Appearance: A gorgeous rich hazy, burnt orange colour coming from my glass, with a thick white bubbly head. Very Hazy. Lovely looking Beer.
Aroma: A nice punch of spice, cloves, a hint of cinnamon with a rich bannana sweetness. There's a slight funkiness to the beer, which I think is coming from the yeast, but it's not an unpleasant funk. Slight undertones of sweet malt, honey and syrup.
Taste: Follows the nose exactly. It's quite sweet, very strong bannana, malt and syrup/honey notes, underpinned with that funk, and clove/cinnamon spice.
Feel: Got more body than any other Beer in this pack so far. Fairly thick, smooth and hides the booze well.
Overall: So far, this has been my favourite Beer of the pack. A really nice smooth drinking beer with great flavours.

Weissbierbrauerei Kuchlbauer "Turm Weisse"
50 cl can coded "EXP 2024/03 08:21 2304MU." Sampled on 12 November 2023
Notes via stream of consciousness: I've never made it to Kuchlbauer to see the tower that's shown on the label here, but I did get to try some of their beers while in München. Turm, by the way, is the Deutch word for tower. It's poured a cloudy golden body beneath a full head of white foam. The aroma is like sweet bread with a hint of vanilla and banana. The flavor follows with even more vanilla and banana. There's some clove as well but it's quite minor. It's quite bready, and sweet, but not overblown. The bitterness is moderate to median but it still finishes mainly dry with the bready and fruity malt lingering shortly. In the mouth it's medium bodied, and in the version I have in front of me, smooth with a median, fine-bubbled carbonation. This can came out of COSTCO's Advent Calendar and I don't think it was actually made by Kuchlbauer, but contracted at another facility where all of the beers in the case were brewed. From a logistics standpoint that makes sense. In any case it's still a good beer as is.

Pours a deep yellow, slightly translucent with a white head that doesn't last long. Smell is fruity, bready with a little butter. Taste leads strongly with wheat and cloves, adds sweet bananas in the middle and finishes very crisp. Overall, a nice hefeweizen, though not particularly strong on the hefe or the weizen.

APPEARANCE: Cloudy opaque golden amber, with a thick head of off-white suds. Almost no lace.
NOSE: Spicy yeast, malty, clove and bubblegum.
TASTE: Light-drinking, sweet and malty with distinct wheat and yeast notes. Pretty tasty and easygoing. Not outstanding but certainly solid and faithful.

Pours golden. Small creamy white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a collar. Minimal carbonation.
Aroma of honey, wheat, banana
Taste of wheat, clove, banana, apple and honey. Sweet but quite enjoyable.
Mouthfeel is light and lightly cleansing.
Overall, quite enjoyable and sessionable. Very nice. The can is very cool, which is a plus.

500ml can, stange, best by March 2023.
Hazy, golden, but below average headiness.
Clove, phenolic plastic fumes, wheat.
It’s sweet to start with, kind of a dehydrated banana sweetness. There’s light banana and yeast phenols.
Light body, slightly matte feel, moderate carbonation.
This is a little bit of a lightweight Weizen.

very enjoyable brew, a distinctive example of the style, and among the best from the advent box so far, surprised there have not been more hefe types in here. my first from this brewery. its got an incredible mineral/water profile to it, wet and slate-like, even slightly chalky, which i think sets up the wheat well, the texture is as relevant as the flavor, and its not the usual creamy thing we see in the finest of these, instead its lighter, faster, a little crisper, maybe a tad thinner, but with the length it works, very drinkable. i also think the yeast has its own personality beyond what is common, less spice more citrus, not as estery either, almost a vinous saison note to this, and it takes this to dry, i think a little more tame than many, less generic, really nice. it smells the same as it tastes, the wheat has some nuttiness and a slight baked thing to it up front, more raw and earthen later. things like mud and clay in here too, very organic to me, and with a slightly floral hop back end giving it some life and vibrancy. old worldy but different too, my wife and i both really dug this, seems somehow festive but i could drink this any time of year. hope to track down more from this brewery...

Pours a nice, peachy, cloudy colour with a foamy head that trims down to a thick layer of surface bubbles. Aromas are of fresh, spicy orchard notes with a hint of citrus. Taste is a smooth treat of a mostly dry and cidery flavour. There’s a mild hoppiness in the dry finish but nothing overwhelming. It’s not overcarbonated and flows smoothly.

Poured from can into tulip, good 1+ finger cream colored head, good retention and lacing. Burnt orange in the glass, good haze to it. Banana, spice and and slight clove on the nose. Taste follows the nose, very easy drinking, and they nailed it by not having it finish flabby, it has a good crisp finish that makes you want to go back for more. Not the best I have had, but wouldn't turn it down.
