12 ounce bottle into a pint glass
A - After a pouring steadily into a pint glass a white one finger head rose and faded to a lace around the glass after a minute or two. A clear, golden brown, translucent body is present along with plenty of carbonation visibly racing to the top of the beer.
S - The smell is very subdued and rather hard to pick out. Light amounts of malts first stand out. A deeper whiff brings about some sweetness, which I assume is honey, along with some hops and a slight citrus zest. Some nice smells here, but nothing overpowering or really impressive.
T - Much like the smell in that everything is very subdued and toned down. Light malts along with a nice honey sweetness play nicely together and give the beer a good balance. A light hop profile also comes in nicely and provides a smooth citrus zest. All of this combines to hide the 6.2% abv quite well.
M - Light bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Sweet honey and light malts up front as the beer enters your mouth. Carbonation cleanses the palate well and prepares you for the light hop profile and citrus zest that comes in to finish clean and smoothly with the carbonation.
D - A very drinkable and enjoyable Maibock that I could see myself having quite a few of in a sitting. While I would like to see something fuller, the beer is smooth and easy to drink and affordable for the quality. Most Capital beers that I would consider buying in six packs are extremely expensive, so it's nice to see a solid offering from them without having to fork over a ton.

It's the end of May and I may be finishing the last of this year's production, but this particular bottle of Capital's Maibock still satisfies. The malt and the lingering hops and yeastiness still make for a worthy treat. Maybe I'll catch one of these earlier next year. (Excuse me, while I finish 'er off....)

This really is a nice, malty spring beer with a small alcohol kick to it. Perfect after coming out of this last Winter. A slight grainy smell, not overly impressive. Creamy and carbonated, and a sweet finish? I do just also get a hint of the hops on this one. All-in-all a recommended spring seasonal beer.

T: Rich malt forward profile. carmel, toffee and toast. sweet in the finish
M: a bit of hot alcohol, dry finish, moderate carb'd.

Pours a nice, soft, fizzy head that is surprisingly persistent. Sweet malt behind floral hops. Brilliant dark gold hue. A nice sweet malt (reminiscent of alcohol's sweetness) with floral hop bitterness which peaks to a low-medium bitterness. Then it cascades down with a MONUMENTAL malt finish with floral hops peaking through as it goes.
I LOVE this bier! Perfectly balanced. A Maibock to compete with the best of Germany. Nice, medium hops balanced off STUNNING maltiness. The way these two elements play amongst each other is just wonderful to experience on your tongue.
I eagerly await the coming of Maibock season just for this one (And Lakefront's "Big Easy").
