So if you haven't heard, the original owners bought the place back a few months ago. After avoiding what had become merely a tourist place with average to sub-par beers, I've made a few visits since the changeover. Put it back on your list of places to go. Now that the smoking ban is in effect, the old smoking bar is a game room (always was, but if you didn't smoke you wouldn't have wanted to play in there.)
Fist off the beer, the XXXX Stout has balls again and the Kilt Lifter does too. They've added a Dubbel and a Triple to the usual line-up. Neither are world class, but it's a sign that things are changing. Even the IPA seemed hoppier and maybe a little bigger than I remembred from the previous owners. I can't wait to see if the Old Bawdy Barleywine comes back to the former standard.
Food is still hit or miss. The Reuben is still a good bet and the mussels are good. Both are a little pricey (the mussels come in an appetizer version though.) Burgers are just O.K. and it is policy that you can't have it any way but well done. Personally, I think if I want to risk E Coli or Mad Cow then that's my business. Cheap apetizers and discounted pints at happy hour make for plenty of pub grub options with a few after work pints.
Service at the bar has always been pretty good and still is. The dining area I've had a long wait between seating and seeing our server.
I hope the positive changes keep coming. I had pretty much stopped going here completely, even taking tourists to the market and then walking to a multi-tap rather than drinking here. But I like having this place back.

Overall a cool place to check out. The atmosphere is cool, with a lot of cool memorabilia and different items to check out. They have a nice selection of their beer and few guest taps. I had the flight and each of the beers were definitely decent. I followed up with a DIPA and that was by far the best. If you are in the area it is worth dropping by.

Visited in October of 2012. We decided to visit this place while we were being touristy in the Pike Place Market. I was with my wife and in-laws, so we just dropped in to have a beer while the women were shopping nearby. I wish I would have had time to do a tour, but the last one had already gone for the day. My first impression was that this place was new and shiny and somewhat over-the-top. My last impression held up. It was extremely crowded (3pm on a weekend), but we found a table eventually. There were servers we thought, but they were more interested in clearing tables, so we went to the bar to get beers. My father in law had a Scotch Ale and I got an IPA and we both, being perveyors of those styles, thought they were good, but not mind blowing. There were several special taps available, so the selection was there. We didn't stay long, but it wasn't really the kind of place you want to stay at. It was more like a busy, trendy bar than a brew pub. Overall, it just wasnt for me.

Took the whole family for a brewery tour and dinner. Our tour guide was outstanding. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about Pike beer and beer in general. The tour was fun and extremely informative, we learned a lot about the ingredients they use (including getting to smell fresh hop), Their brewing process, and lot of other information about their brewery.
Dinner was fantastic, the food was excellent and they even have a really decent kids menu. The beer selection was great mostly Pike beers, but it is after all their brewery and they make some pretty excellent beers. The price was pretty spot on for what you get which is a great atmosphere, great food and beer, and extremely helpful and friendly service.

We visited the Pike Pub and Brewery for a tour of their facilities. The tour guide we had was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and understood what we were interested it. The brewery was bigger than I had imagines, and looked very well established. And the few beers we tried tasted great. I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone. And try their Barley Wine, it's fantastic!

For all the times we've visited Seattle, I'd never visited Pike. Have always enjoyed their beers, have even walked around (and past) their Pike Place Market brewery spot, just never descended the stairs into this sublevel pub. Finally did so on Tuesday (11/13/2012)...
I'm a beer guy who likes his schwag, so the museum-quality signage and memora-beer-lia throughout the pub struck me right away... and is AWESOME. Seriously, you cannot escape it! It's a feast for the eyes that encompasses literally thousands of posters, placards and paraphernalia collected over the years - seemingly every square inch of every wall (from dining room to restrooms) is coated with beer stuff. My wife, sister-in-law and I stopped in around at around 1:00pm on a dreary day; atmosphere was a bit sleepy but still jovial enough with all the lighting and visual candy. Since it was SIL's birthday, we decided to grab a seat and have a pint.
We bee-lined it to the bar at far right, a cozy C-shape that was mostly full - no 3 seats together except for at the less appealing fringes. After some pondering, I opted for the XXX 'Extra' Stout (hadn't had it in years, but it's as good as I remembered). Most other 'standards' from Pike on tap (8-10 in all) and a couple 'guests'; a cider, too. In a nearby cooler were a number of imports (Belgians like Westmalle and Rochefort 6/8/10) and others like Hair of the Dog 'Adam'. After placing orders, we clutched our pints and went into the adjacent Brewery Museum room - very cool space, neon and even more historical beer stuff.
Pints were $5 (schooners $4), which I though was reasonable, but the cider pints the ladies ordered were $7 (kinda steep). Service was friendly (& patient) at the bar -- she gladly offered some oyster crackers when my SIL wasn't feeling well (no fault of Pike's - she'd been carsick most of the ride up from Portland and hadn't told us); otherwise, we were completely left alone.
We skipped food this visit, but will return on our next Seattle visit, I'm sure of it. Great look and feel to the place, lots of beer - a place worth visiting and hanging around for a while.

We stopped by while visiting the market place. This place is huge, there is a resturant area and at least two different bar areas.
The resturant was full so we opted to sit in one of the bar areas and do our own ordering at the bar.
The beers on tap covered a good range of styles, there were a number of small batch brews as well as the regulars. The beers we had were quite good.
The sandwiches were very good and delivered to the table by a server.
All in all a pretty decent place, just a step above your typical chain type brewpub resturant.

Visited on 4/20/12 while on vacation
My wife and I stopped in for The Pike Sampler after walking around The Market on a beautiful day.
Six 4oz. beers (Naughty Nellie, Pike Pale Ale, Kilt Lifter, XXX, Monk's Uncle, and Pike IPA) with fitting descriptions served on wooden tray satisfied the palate and the soul. Although these brews are not necessarily my favorite style I did enjoy them and respected the order that they were suggested I drink them in. I was happily surprised by Kilt Lifter and yearned for more XXX, Naughty Nellie was better than most organic beers (which I usually do not care for except Deschutes Green Lakes Amber Ale), and the rest were just above standard. $8.95 to check off 5 beers (I had already tried Pike IPA) in such an environment was well worth it for me. My wife enjoyed the Monk's Uncle more than she thought she would but favored the XXX over all the others as well.
Cool items in gift shop as well.

I lived in Seattle for 5+ years, and this was one of my favorite spots near work (downtown, right next to Pike Place market).
It's an interesting place... in the bowels of an old building attached to the market place - cool interior with lots of great beer memorabilia and art.
Pretty enjoyable selection of house beers, in my book. Really like the Kilt Lifter and XXX Stout. Great place to come and grab a few pitchers with friends for a reasonable price.
Food is pretty standard pub fare - not a ton of selection, but it gets the job done. Don't come here for lunch - come here for beer, and perhaps get lunch as well.

I visited this place when i was looking at colleges back in 2008 but it made quite the impression on me. The staff was extremely friendly and even though i was not of drinking age, they were more than happy to enlighten me to some of the finer aspects that go into making the beers they offer. The food was standard, with a decent selection, burgers sandwiches, fish, steaks etc. What i remember most was the selection of merchandise available, decor and location, that made the atmosphere one regrets leaving. All in all, this place made a large impression on me and i felt that they deserved to be recognized for this on the best beer reviewing site in the world.
