Sadly, the "powers that be," have decided no longer to make this tasty BW available in the bottle. Notable vintages, if you can lay hands on them: 1996 (has aged marvelously with lovely dry sherry notes)& 1998, which is still drinking like a malt-bomb, but I like that sort of thing in my BW's.

22 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a dark amber with a full off-white head. Leaves tons of sticky lace.

S: Fruitcake, brown sugar, some grapefruit from the hops. Smells like a classic American barleywine to me.

T: Much of the same as in the smell. Rich malt flavours backed with a heavy dose of American hops. Like a junior Bigfoot, but still big and brash.

M: Rich, chewy, but surprisingly easy drinking for its size.

O: This was a surprise. A $3.99 barleywine that's this good. Easy buy.

2012 vintage.

Pours a hazy orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, citrus zest, and alcohol. Taste is much the same with sugary and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp but slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty but pretty strong and boozy as well.

2012 bottle 9.9%ABV. per bottle label.I have been wanting to get my hands on this beer of quite awhile,it's awesome that I can get here in my area now.Poure a clear rich amber/bronze with a thinner but sticky white head atop.Dark fruit dipped in alcohol and leathery tones stand out most in the nose, underlying sticky hops are present but the deeply fruit malts and alcohol win out.Cakey flavors and the before mentioned alcohol dipped fruit stand out on the palate, the alcohol is omni-present making this a sipper. The feel is big and chewey like it should be.To me this is almost English in it's hefty fruity/cakey flavors but the alcohol brashness is American,a great brew that lived up to "my" expectations.

A: This poured a nearly opaque mahogany with a little light tan head.
S: It smelled like sweet caramel and copper hops, with some honey wheat bread and raisins and biscuit.
T: It tasted like sweet caramel and raisin, with some copper hops and stale biscuit. It had a bitter and somewhat clean aftertaste with alcohol warming.
M: It was slightly thick with moderate carbonation. Ok body.
D: This brew had a good scent and taste, but the body was a little weak and the finish was kind of rough. It started off ok, but the lingering character is telling of the quality of the brew...or lack thereof. Not a very refined drink.

A- has the deep color of red raisins. A little bit of head. But the color really stands out to me. It has an inviting hue to it.

S- a bready smell with fruit. A touch of cherry.

T- lots of raisin. Hop finish with a touch of faint cherries.

M- has a thickness to it. Really fills the mouth and coats the palate.

O- overall this is a great beer to sit and enjoy. Very easy to drink dispite the 10% abv.
