Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Saved this about 5 months after purchasing it. Pours a nice dark mahogany color with a little light tan/off-white head that will leave a decent amount of lacing on the glass.

On first smell it gives off a nice bit of aroma from the dark malts: caramel with a bit of toffee and raisins and some citrus. It continues into the flavor of the beer with the dark malts that contribute a toffee/caramel/bready taste to it. The mouthfeel is a bit thin but smooth overall.

A fairly decent beer all-in-all, it may not be exactly to style but is worth a taste if you want something close to it.

Review from 5/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark orange brown. Small fine off-white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma of sweet bready malt, dark fruit. Light flavors of caramel malt, light and dark fruit. Very light hop finish. Light to medium bodied. Rather subdued and not too exciting.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

Appearance: Pours an ice tea brown color with a rather modest head for a Belgian; leaves a few strands of lace here and there

Smell: Caramel and maybe some golden raisins

Taste: Caramel with a developing subtle tobacco tone; brown bread after the swallow

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Another rather clumsy attempt at a Belgian by Pike; I have had some good beers from them but they are way out of their element with Belgians; this beer would be better classified as a somewhat hoppy brown ale - it is certainly drinkable but lacks the complex flavors I would expect in a dubbel
