A big beer that does not get too out of control. It has a deep orange body and sticky white head indicating the generous malt used for this beer. The aroma is aromatic northwest hops over a sweet malty nose...very nice. The taste is a striking balance of the malty sweetness, slight caramel notes, and a big hop finish. The generous body does not become cloying, so this Imperial IPA is easy to drink.

Poured copper orange with a finger of bright white head. Aroma of caramel and some mild pine.
Moderate carbonation and a full, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Quite sweet with lots of caramel, honey, and bread. Just a bit of pine and citrus on the finish.
Interesting to have an imperial pale ale; definitely more malt-forward. Just a hint of booziness and not overly sweet, but one was plenty.

Pours a clear golden orange color with a one finger white head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Streaks of lacing left behind.
Complex hop aroma with lots of tropical and citrus fruit notes countering the earthy, grassy character. Hints of grapefruit, pineapple and orange pell followed by earthy pine needle and biscuity malt.
Medium bodied with a nice balance of bitter, earthy hops and sweet fruit notes. Hints of grassy pine needle giving off dry bitterness that lingers throughout. This is countered by hints of citrus rind, grapefruit and pineapple. Some biscuity pale malt and sweet booze toward the finish. Well balanced and dangerously drinkable.

From cask at the brewery in Seattle.
Pours a straw yellow hue with solid hazing. Body is firm, supporting a rocky, sticky, honeycombed white head. Surprisingly, it doesn't leave much lace as it disintegrates, which is a bit of a disappointment. Otherwise, it's a solid looking cask pour.
Nose is surprisingly weak, with very little aroma noticeable at all. There's a whiff of tropical fruits to it, but I feel as though I smell it only because I expect it. Some mild malt perhaps? No, there's not much to it: it's inoffensive, but bland.
Light smoothness comes through on the front of the palate, before some faintly fruity, faintly acrid characters meld with a more pronounced grain note mid-palate. Back is smooth, with a hint of banana skin, but there's a build up of resin, which is the first truly noticeable hop character.
Feel is undeniable smooth and good from the cask.
Overall though, this really should be better. I had a couple of really good beers here, and many that showed very unrealised potential. This is one of the latter.

On tap into an American pint glass @ Lockspot, Ballard, Seattle, Washington.
Copper color w/ a soft creamy white head, solid lacing all the way down as I drain the pint.
Aroma is piney and floral hops.
Taste follows nose - piney & grassy, a little floral. Hops are the star of the show here but there's a clean malty presence as well. Mouthfeel is smooth and clean, carbonation just right.
Overall a solid, enjoyable IPA that made my fish & chips and steamed clams taste even better.
