On tap at Big Time Brewery. Poured to a standard pint glass (this review from notes taken 8/6/11).

A - Poured an orangey golden straw, with 1/2-finger of off-white small bubble head. Moderate retention, with moderately thick sticky lacing. Shines golden/orange when held up to the light.

S - Citrusy tangy hop to start, mellowed slightly into melon/grapefruit/apricot, scent, followed with a rice/grain note to finish.

T - Citrusy apricot hop profile, rolling into a nice light malt flavor with mild-to-moderate top of the tongue bitterness. Flavor flows into citrus tang balanced with a bright wheaty/grassy note. Finishes sweet and slightly buttery.

M - Light body, but not thin. Crisp and refreshing. Mild front of the tongue carbonation bite, but not fizzy.

D - Very refreshing with a great flavor! Light and easy drinking, not at all too bitter. A great all-year beer, and one I would definitily drink again.

on-tap at the brewery

appearance: served in a shaker pint, hazy orange body, heavy white foam head

smell: quite strongly hopped - lots of lush citrus, pine, citrus zest.

taste: quality ipa - a little bitter, fres citrus, grapefruit, melon. Big Time had 3 IPA's going and I chose this one at random - promising

mouthfeel: decent bitterness, oily

overall: strong

On tap at the brewpub.

Appearance: murky golden hue with a thin finger of head. Pretty standard, but good.

Smell: malty backbone with some lightly funky hops. Pretty decent!

Taste: delicious malt base with funky, citrusy hops and a little sweetness. There are some welcome floral notes here too. Awesome!

Mouthfeel: medium body with rich creamy carbonation. I like it a lot.

Overall: quite a good beer. I'd be glad to order this wherever I see it, but it is particularly smashing here at the pub.

On draught at the brewpub, Perspective is dirty blond, with light tan head (that is interspersed with a layer of unappealing tan skim) a small white head that leaves light lace rings.

Smell is aggressively hoppy, at first cantaloupe, as it warms, more grapefruit and resin.

Taste is pretty big as well, the hoppiest of the IPAs I've had here, I'd put it in the about the 88-90th percentile, regionally, regarding hoppiness. Not much from the malt, it's strictly a hop delivery vehicle.

Mouthfeel is dry, oily, medium bodied.

Drinkability is pretty good, a nice IPA, my favorite of their line-up that I've had (the others being Scarlet and Bhagwan's).

On tap in a pint glass at the brewpub on 5/28/10

Lightly hazed, faded amber with lighter hues worked in. One finger head on the pour. Very thin retention, yet with impressive lacing.

The barkeep said this, of their five IPAs, has the most Simcoe. The aroma certainly backs that up with an abundance of tropical & citrus fruit. Mango, tangerine, orange & faint grapefruit. Juicy & floral with a touch of sweetness.

The taste is more or less balanced, but definitely has a penchant for hoppiness. The citrus notes aren't as bright as the nose & seem muddled a bit, but not in a bad way. Orange pith & mango are most apparent. Supported by a sturdy malt profile of caramel & modest notions of toasted bread. Not overly bitter or biting but it has that great Simcoe flavor.

Medium bodied; resinous & gritty. Carbonation is pretty much spot on. Finishes pretty dry. Seems to be moderate on the abv front.

Perspective IPA quite the impressive offering from a brewery I had never heard of. I'm glad I had a chance to try it since I love Simcoe. I could go for a little more kick, but that's just me being picky. This is a solid beer. Recommended.

Sampled @ Big Time, April 2007
My nose is greeted by a fruity hop driven note made up of apricot and lychee. The beer is a hazy blond-copper color and is topped by a wispy, light tan colored head. The flavor has a mellow hop bite to it with sharp, herbal pine flavors coupled with a fruity citrus character that is not quite as pungent as the nose might have suggested.

Mid September 2005. Had at the Big Time Brewery in Seattle, WA.

Presentation- via samplers from the tap.

Appearance- Cloudy gold pour with a smaller 1/4 head. Excellent sticky lace.

Smell- This one has a huge fruit scented nose. Pineapple, lemon, oranges, a whole orchard of fruits.

Taste- Long lasting bitter flavor from the sugary and fruity hops. Not a bunch of malt here, but enough to somewhat balance it out.

Mouthfeel- Very frothy and sticky. Low carbonation level as well.

Drinkability- Hopheads beer definition. Not sure if I really would want to do more than a pint of this in a sitting. One is perfect. Tasty brew.

Appearance - This arrived cloudy blonde with a creamy, just off-white head. The head retention was average and light lacing covered the glass all the way down.

Smell - Yowzah, this is hoppy. I mean, even for a dry hopped IPA, this one smells over the top. Intense and sprucey.

Taste - This is one of the hoppiest IPAs I've ever had. Unlike some other hop-heavy brews like Dogfish Head's 90 or 120 minute IPA, this one doesn't quite have the bold malt foundation to balance this intensity. That said, I find this extremely enjoyable. Super long hops finish with superb bitterness.

Mouthfeel - The mouthfeel is entirely dominated by the tannic hops and massive bitterness playing across the tongue.

Drinkability - This one's so hoppy, I'm not sure I would be in line for these all night.
