Did not expect much when bought, only purchased it because this was a new item at my local supermarket
served around 3-4 degree Celsius, after pulling it right out of the fridge after sitting there for 2 days.
No specific aroma when poured, and there is little to no head.
It's got a crisp bite on palate, and hoppiness is above that of Beck's that keeps the beer very interesting .
I am used to drinking pale ales and Belgians, so this beer has little body, taste is very dry and smooth.
After consuming some more, this beer stays crisp and refreshing, well above my expectation.
Great beer. I'd definitely buy again and recommend to others

Appearance: Light gold with decent head and lacing.
Smell: Bready malts and grassy hops
Taste: Grassy, malty, spicy, hoppy… Complex flavor.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, crisp, medium bodied.
The Verdict: Very good. A refreshing German pilsner with lots of flavor and more complexity than I expected.

Consumed March 18th, 2013 from a bottle marked "best by August 23rd, 2013". Poured into a pilsener glass.
Beer pours a brilliant light yellow with copious streaming carbonation bubbles throughout the drink-down. A two-finger creamy white head forms and lasts a long time, slowly reducing to a thin cap. Not very sticky, it slides down the sides of the glass easily.
Aroma is strong but not complex: sweet with husky grains and a bready note.
Flavor is a little bready with a fleeting touch of spicy, peppery hop at the end. Finish started off as a thin, metallic, disagreeable bitterness; the metallic and disagreeable parts disappeared after a few sips.
Mouthfeel was well-carbonated and medium-bodied.
A decent enough pilsener, I guess, but it's a style I don't especially enjoy.

I really like the malty/roasted taste that Verum has. It makes the beer stand out from other German beers. Besides that, this is business as usual for German beer, which should be expected because of the purity law. I find that most German beer is very drinkable, and it is a shame that a lot of people that I know are starting to frown on German brews.
My opinion is that German beer is what adjuncts aim for, and German beers are starting to become passe to the craft crowd. Nevertheless, Warsteiner Verum still holds up better to most traditional beers, and that distinct taste makes it go outside of the box with typical German beer.

These are everywhere now at a stupidly low price, so I decided to revisit one of these after a long time coming. Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Freshness date is "11/JUL/13."
Pours a golden yellow color with a strong, thickened cascade of bubbles and carbonation, to the point of being near champagne-like. Eventually, however, the large 3 finger head dies down to nothing and the bubbles cease to be as festive and turn into a modest, calmed form. More viscous looking than expected given the ABV and style... Yet pretty unassuming and basic when it comes to such a style as well. A little above average here, but nothing more than that.
At the nose, there's a fair amount of crisp grains, a little bit of grassy zest, and a lingering, slightly "skunked" character underneath. There are tidbits of fruity aromas resembling green apples, apricots, and a bit of fruit skin tartness, but don't think it's too predominant with the writing. The golden, crisp malts are pretty straightforward and soaked with a bit of alcohol, but it's actually pretty balanced with the grassiness and skunked backbone. Definitely not exactly what I'd call a classic German pilsner (but I'm not going to start a regional war here), but still mellow and well integrated.
Different from a variety of Bavarian-focused pilsners that I tend to lean to most of the time, this has a far more predominant grainy texture, which is accentuated by its subtle yet zesty hoppiness. The cereal grains linger for a while, combined with more of the apple/peach tart flavors that zone in and out in the aftertaste. The hops do eventually catch up, but this is probably more for those who aren't big fans of them in their German pilsners. It's never aggravating, and the slight yeasty texture and alcoholic finish definitely adds some character to it, but I would not say that it's extremely well balanced or anything. This is smooth and full bodied, though, and you could for sure drink this without even noticing.
Quite a good, above average session German pick here... At the price and quality, this could easily even be appreciated by the casual drinking crowd. With the warm weather coming up, I could definitely have more of these, despite the muted hoppy nature and strong graininess. Pair with a club sandwich or bratwurst for good results!

330ml bottle 4,8% Abv.
Served chilled in an over sized wine glass
Best Before: 19/06/2013
Appearance: Warsteiner Premium Verum pours a pale yellow colour, while a rough pour generates a large white head. Retention and lacing are average at best.
Smell: Hmmm, this doesn’t smell all that bad. The initial nose offers a light grassy note alongside pale grain and a very light toasted note. Sadly, as the beer begins to warm a slightly unpleasant cooked vegetable character.
Taste: As expected, there is not much to the taste (pale grains and a very light grassy note is about all that is noted), but at least it does steer clear of any offensive notes.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied, with a high level of carbonation. Thankfully, unlike most pale lagers, the carbonation is not harsh or unpleasant.
Overall: Warsteiner is not as bad as most other pale lagers, but it is still not something I could see myself buying again in the future.

Bottle: tall brown 330mL bottle, pretty ordinary German macro label.
Appearance: faint yellow in colour. Plenty of carbonation, with a frothing head that settles to a cap. Sporadic lacing lines the glass.
Aroma: light pilsener aromas - sweet malts and floral and grassy hops. Nothing out of the ordinary, but smells very refreshing.
Taste: there is something a bit odd about this beer - different to most pilseners. There is the usual touch of citrus, sweet malts and grass hops again, but something almost vegetal as an undertone. Not sure whether I like it or not.
Aftertaste: it is the vegetal undertone that dominates the aftertaste. Again not unpleasant, just a bit unusual.
Mouth feel: a bit too much carbonation for my liking - it almost adds carbonated metal to the flavours. Body is about right though, at light-to-medium.
Overall: an okay beer, but not really worth while. It is an interesting pilsener - a bit different to the norm, but not necessarily in a good way. My biggest complaint, however, is this: it is AU$78 a case (2013), and isn't the best of beers. That's absolutely appalling. Not really much more to say about it than that.

The color is a light gold surmounted by a cap of foam fine and persistent. Its aroma isn't very intense, complex and to hear the full herbaceous you need to drink. Is a beer clean, unpretentious, that thanks to the good carbonization can be very cool and refreshing with a dry finish. Bitterness is intense thanks to the hops used (Hallertau), bitter that lingers in your mouth for a long time. Beer decent but nothing exceptional.

Smell- Grass, malt, and hops.
Taste- Grains with some malt sweetness and grassy hop flavor.
Mouthfeel- Light bodied and crisp. An average amount of carbonation.
Overall- A tasty, easy drinking pilsener. Not a great beer but still pretty good.

Good German Brew, pours out a big white head that has plenty of laceing. Clear and golden yellow color, with a light malty maybe bready and very clean cut. Has a sweet taste that is also very clean and crispy, which turns to dryness in the end. Has a sharp bitterness as well. This isnt maybe favorite German beer but its nice to change things up here and there.

The pour produced a classic light straw body with a thick, creamy white head; lots of carbonation rising in the body. The aroma comes across with lightly roasted malts with a grass-like hop smell. The taste comes across with a subtle grainy sweetness and a slightly zesty and a tad bit peppery hop bitterness. A nice crispness comes through in the feel; clean and dry.
I was pleasantly surprised with this beer if for no other reason that I always expected to not like Warsteiner. There is no good reason for this other than my incomprehensible prejudices with some things. In any case, I find this to be a nice example of a classic German style; excellent balance and complexity throughout. It's good to be proven wrong every so often...

A: the beer is a pale gold looks like a standard lager but has a larger head that stays a while and has good lacing
S: Grass and hops a very fresh crisp scent and maybe some citrus and a bit of malt
T: follows the smell pleasant in the beginning with a general pilsner taste that is then finished buy a slightly bitter aftertaste
M: Standard crisp pilsner feel goes down easy
O: While this is a good lager and quite drinkable i dont think that it is as deserving of praise as it is given ya it is better the the standard american lager dont get me wrong but it just isnt doing it for me

Warsteiner Verum from Warstein, Germany.
Very light color. Tons of flavor (grains?) for a pilsner, smell was OK. Lots of carbonation. Enjoyable.

Very drinkable beer. Pilseners are not usually my go-to style of beer but this one was quite enjoyable. Very light in color with not a lot of head which was white. It gave a kind of sneak up on you kind of buzz (1 pt and oz's bottle). Carbonation on it was noticeable as the bubbles would rise to the top throughout the entire glass until empty

Appearance: Golden, crystal clear, spotty head that lingers a bit, but otherwise unnotable.
Aroma: Bread with a bit of hops.
Taste: Bread, bitterness and spice on the tongue, bitterness lingers but hard to place--almost harsh.
Mouthfeel: Light and spritzy on the tongue.
Paired with a club sandwich at Berlin Kulturcafe in Sucre, Bolivia. Grew on me over the meal, most especially the bitterness that plays itself out long after you drink it and made it better than pretty much any other pilsner here.

Hadn't had one of these beers since I drank it with one of my exes 10 years(!) ago. When I picked up the Wesvleteren 12 at Top Hops a few weeks back, I saw this available via the single bottle and thought I'd give it a go again. While this is light enough to almost not feel like beer, I was surprised at how easy this was to drink and crisp it was for a Pilsener. While this still isn't one of my favorite styles, I enjoyed it enough to actually slow myself down during my drinking session.
The pour to this was nice, with a clear, golden hue, fluffy head, and a soapy lacing that slowly slid down my pint glass after each sip. Most of the aroma was of grass and a farmhouse-like earthiness that was backed up with some lemongrass and some sourness. The carbonation was great and the alcohol could be felt a bit, even though this wasn't too strong. It detracted a bit from the crispness of the beer but it was still bright enough to enjoy on its own without needing any water wash it down.
I could have had another one of these in my session since it was light in alcoholic content and taste. No doubt that this beer would go great with pretzels and chips and reminded me of what a good old-school pilsener should taste like. While there are so many other styles that outdo beers like this, this is great to have when you want to crack something open and not be bombarded with hops, booze, and endless layers of flavors. On a slightly warmer day, this would hit the spot nicely during snack time.

Great clarity in this brew, just perfect. Easy head formation, that settles down, yet also leaves some lacing. Lacking big time in bubbles however, and that makes me wonder how old this bottle is.
Grassy hop aroma, corn bread, and honey. Standard for style, but big enough to be noticeable.
Refreshing flavor. Initially there’s a good malt hit, filling my mouth with a surprisingly full-feeling body, but the dry finish, with those grassy hops, cuts it all back to even ground. Lacking on carbonation, which is a pretty big ding on style. Flavor is light overall but not dull. I do like the bitterness in the finish.
A good pilsner despite what may be an outdated bottle. However, I can think of a few more that I enjoy significantly more. I wouldn’t buy it, but I sure wouldn’t turn one down if offered to me.

Pours out a clear pale yellow color with a two finger foamy white head. The retention is great, as it sticks around throughout the live the beer with a some sticky lacing.
The aroma has a grassy hop at first with hints of lemon and some semi-sweet malt.
Citrus hop hit the palate at first sip. A mild honey sweetness pulls though from the malt with a dry bitter finish.
Light in body, crisp and very easy drink.
Hands down this is a straight forward German pislner. Every characteristic of this style was met, and there is nothing more to say. I have always enjoyed this brew.

Translucent yellow, almost good appearance with a frothy, two finger thick white colored head. Raw barley, mild hop bitterness, pale malts and light citrus on the aroma; very simple. Smooth and rich rye bread flavor and smoked barley on the first sip. Overall body is simplistic, where only the main ingredients of an average brew make themselves apparent. Light bodied with medium carbonation.

Review from 8/2010 notes. Poured into a flute glass. Pours a light golden amber with a light head a bit of lacing. Light malt and hop aroma. Smooth, light malt and wheat , nothing really stands out. Well balanced, but not exciting. Did not have any adjunct flavors I feared from the color. Pretty standard decent German pilsner. Satisfactory dining-out beer in a pinch.

was surprised to learn this was the beer in the first class cabin on a lufthansa flight from frankfurt to bangalore. after they mixed up my booking and put me in with the elite folks, i started pumping these. the first three were pretty substandard, not quite cold enough, and lacking body and complexity. this beer pours very light and clear, with a floating white lace head that has decent retention. smells like german crystal and pale malts, some faint sweetness and fresh baked dinner rolls form the aromatic palate of this brew. the flavor is a little less sexy, slightly watered down, and less bravado on the malts than the nose indicates. mouthfeel was less than stellar, too light for me, and too quick in the finish to even really taste it. that said though, its a heck of a session beer with a nice low abv and a smooth feel. by beers 4 through 6 i started liking it, and challenged myself to explain why. i started stasting more of the subtleties in the malt, and it opened up nicely for me, they also started coming out colder which i think helped. all up i put 8 of these back in an 8 hour flight, not too shabby, but i never really got drunk or anything. drinkable brew, but i wont purchase it.
