A - Light golden hue with a white creamy/fizzy head. Lacing was very nice throughout.

S - Not much coming off of this one, slight hints of grain.

T - Hints of bread and grain.

M - Malts were weak, hops were clean.

O - Definitely better than a corn based beer in the States, but nothing that really jumps out about it.

Poured from an 11.2oz standard pressure-cap bottle into a weizen glass. I'm wondering if the glassware mismatch with have any effect. Poured in high elevation Kalispell, Mont. Reviewed live.

A- Three finger white, fluffy head. Relatively long retention. Very light yellow body, high clarity. Head shrinks down to fluffy clouds with wispy lacing. Looking like a good fit for the style yet.

S- Grassy, fermented, nice aromatic smell.

T- Crisp, grassy flavors. Nice and sweet.

M- Light and wet.

O- Not bad at all. I rather enjoyed this Pils and wouldn't mind drinking it again.

Serving Type - 500ml can, poured into a pilsner glass

Appearance - Pours a crystal clear golden straw colour. A bit of carbonation is visible. Poured with about two fingers of head which fade rapidly, leaving behind next to no lacing.

Smell - Grains and cereal...

Taste - Grains up front, followed by light malts and a few grassy bits. An light alcohol flavour linger after the beer is gone...and not in a good way really.

Mouthfeel - Moderate carbonation for a pilsner. Light body, with a dry, decently crisp finish.

Overall - 3/5

Bright golden color with a thin head with short retention.
Malty aroma with grassy hops.
Bitter taste of grassy hops on a mildly sweet biscuit malt base. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with good carbonation with a mild crisp and spicy sensation.
Typical German Pilsner, decent and reliable, but don't expect any thrills.

This brew was a bit better than expected. First, it smells bread-like from the pilsen base malt, but its not as crisp as you would expect, nor as bright. The real gem in this one is the toasted smell of a decoction mash. It tastes of bready pilsen, but it also carries a very distinctive decoction mash "toasted" grain flavor that can only be found in a beer that was mashed with the added pains and energy exertion that a decoction mash schedule can provide. This is a throwback to when all brews were mashed this way due to the under-modified base malts that were common years ago, requiring many step mashes to coax the grain in the brewer's direction without adding heat or increased water volume to the main mash. Its just more effort and no longer required these days, but the taste is unique and very traditional....its simply German.

This brew has no up front bittering hops profile, the hops seem to be there as a mild earthy spice (noble variety I think), but not all that bitter. This is a 100% malt forward beer and it is very unique. There are no flavors added, no lightening adjuncts and my guess is no filtering....its 100% malty goodness. This is as real as brew gets and the decoction mash makes it worth trying if you prefer your cold one on the malty side. I will order it again if I every see it offered on draft.
