Imperial Stout Trooper (bonus points for an awesome name) begins with a rich, full aroma, heady with dark and milk chocolates, coffee, molasses, chocolate malt, toasted nuts, and good hints of earthy loam.

On the tongue, the beer is immediately dark, beginning with chocolate malts and descending quickly into black malt, with strong tobacco, black coffee, and ash flavors, touched with just a hint of anise and bourbon (note, however, that the brew is not bourbon-barrel aged). Around mid-mouthful, as the sugars die off, the hops make a small appearance, tinging the mixture with grapefruits--which, given that the IBUs clock in at 50, tells you about the strength of the malt flavors. Still, the tobacco and ash last throughout the mouthful in great strength, burning slightly on the soft palate, and continue into the aftertaste. A good smidgen of hops also colors the aftertaste, which lingers for a long time. Mouthfeel is a surprising medium-light, given the strength of the flavors, and carbonation is medium-light.

Overall, this is an amazing Imperial Stout, bountiful with enough darkness to suck black holes into its event horizon. This is the stout you're looking for.
