Perhaps the best beer experience I have ever had. No joke! Strolled in here on a Monday at lunch time with my wife, sat at the bar, ordered up two pizzas and life was good.
Atmosphere was cool,m laid back, chill and relaxing. Servers were all cool. Dan at the bar was just AWESOME!
Quality..its Port so Yeah it was really good.
Service. Dan was on top of it and really knew his beer stuff to. Not only was smart on beer but the local scene and he was just a bad ass. We really liked him and thanked him alot. He convinced the bottle shop to open 5 hours ealry so that we can go visit. Now thats cool.
Selection was top notch. They had Double Doroado, Ten Fidy, Top Sail, Victory At Sea, Frankenwine, Kaiser and much much more!
Pizza wa awesome and the Portzel was really good too.
Value was reasonable. This is a must! Best beer bar/brewpub I have ever visited south of Seattle!

I absolutely loved this place. We dont have many of these places on the East Coast, nor many places with such an impressive selection of taps.
That atmosphere was great, very lively, open, fun friendly kind of place. Seating was very casual at picnic tables. The mother in law didnt like it, but she really doesnt like much of anything that isnt in New Jersey and doesnt have white tablecloths.
The draught selection was awesome. I went there twice out of my 3 days in Carlsbad just to try some more. There were about 12 or so Pizza Port brews and just as many brews from local CA brewers...also Alaskan Barleywine, which was awesome. I was fortunate to have the plant to pint IPA which was incredibly fresh. About 5 or 6 out of 12 Pizza Port taps were IPAs.
The food was great, pizza awesome actually. Wings were awesome too, but a bit soggy bc theyre baked not fried.
And the staff was super friendly, helpful, etc. It was very nice to see such a place with a big West Coast personality. you certainly dont see that in Baltimore.

Without a doubt, this is my favorite brewpub in all of Southern California. I have not been to the Pizza Port in Solana Beach (I can't believe I haven't) because some say the Solana Beach brewpub is even better than Carlsbad. That's hard to believe. Every beer I've tried here I rate from good to excellent. They even have some high quality guest beers on tap, such as Ballast Point IPA and HopTown IPA. The pizza is very good, fairly inexpensive and they serve it in large portions. Surfboards on the ceiling give you a real California beach city ambiance. Keep your eyes open because you sometimes see celebrities here. Recently I saw Tony Hawk enjoying a pizza with his family, and a few years ago I saw Rick Pitino, basketball coach for University of Louisville, enjoying a takeout. Pizza Port is also home to the annual San Diego Strong Ale Festival in December. This place is a must if you are in the San Diego area.

I finally got to check this place out and it did not disappoint. Located on the main drag in Carlsbad. Large dining area inside as well as several tables outside to enjoy the great SoCal weather.
You order the beer at a separate bar inside. They had around a dozen of their own house beers. They also have about 15 guest taps with a great selection. Lots of rare domestic crafts such as Alpine, the last 3 years of Bigfoot, etc. Also several excellent imports. Every beer lover can find something on their board to make them happy.
We ordered the Carlsbad pizza which was very good. Good crust and good quality toppings. The salads were very good as well.
I really enjoyed this place. Some of the best beer you'll fine anywhere as well as very good pizza. You can't ask for anymore that that.

Arrived for lunch on a quiet Monday afternoon in October fresh on the heels of this place's GABF award for best large brew pub and 7 or 8 medals for their beers.
This place is the real deal for beer geeks. Nicely situated next to a quiet beach. Perfect place for lunch and tasty brews. Didn't count but they had about 10 or 12 of their own brews which included a nice array of styles including belgian golden, hefe, wiezenbock, red ale on cask, double red, a fresh hop IPA (excellent), belgian IPA, dIPA (ridiculously tasty). All were very good but the hoppy stuff was what stood out the most.
Guest tap list was quite impressive also featuring Sierra Nevada Estate Harvest, Alpine Pure Hoppiness (very very nice), Alpine double IPA (also impressive), Ballast Point IPA, a couple of Belgians, other goodies.
Pizza was very good by West Coast standards. Its a walk up and order place for your pie or slice with a separate bar area which worked efficiently for lunch time traffic. Could see it getting congested on a busy night. Atmosphere is laid back, beach-casual. Bar staff was friendly, patient and knowledgeable.

My detailed notes say that I was here on F, 17 July 2009 as part of my visit with my cousin and his wife in support of The Beer Pest column in the current (June/July 2010) issue of Ale Street News. Who am I to disagree?
A day at the beach, courtesy of The Coaster, a local privately-owned light rail system that dropped me off a scant few blocks away. Pizza Port (Carlsbad) sat on the corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and Roosevelt Street. The entry, overhung with a striped canopy, was in the center, with the brewhouse in the left-facing window.
The wood bar, fronted by Captain's chairs, began just to the left of the doorway and continued snaking its way around to the far left side of the building. A cooler with ice cream and sorbets (!) sat in the centerline, followed by a short, wooden dividing wall which separated the bar area from the restaurant area and with its own series of Captain's chair seating. Continuing on the left side, beyond the brewhouse and behind the bar, was the entrance to the cooler, followed by the first bank of taps, a glass door to access chilled glassware, another set of taps and another glass door. A pair of stainless steel boards were mounted above the glass doors and second set of taps and detailed "Beers Brewed Here" on the left side and "Guest Beers" on the right side. The far left wall housed the pizza (and salad) kitchen.
Over on the restaurant side, picnic tables were the norm. The theme on this side was surfing - boards in the overhead, murals along the counter, portraits on the walls. Also in the restaurant area, against the right wall, were a series of video games.
Beers: Fourteen (14) house - Port Van Porter; Palapa Pale Ale; Great American Brown; Wipeout IPA; Carlsbad Cream Ale; Carlsbad Chronic; California Honey; None the Weisser; Revelations; Night Rider Imperial Stout; Borough Market Bitter; State Beach Blonde; Poor Man's [D]IPA; and Party Pants Pilsner.
Cask: Parabola Pale Ale
Guests: Twenty-eight (28) plus a guest cask.
Service: I am always reluctant to mention my server's physical qualities, but I was struck by my heavily tattooed slip of a woman and this coming from a short-statured guy with thirteen tattoos of his own. Hers were much more traditional than mine and included her back, chest and knuckles. Zounds! Very friendly, personable, helpful and attentive - all good qualities in a server.
Shopping: Work shirt, growler, and stickers. Perfect!

Awesome little place in what looks like a typical surf town. Drove down from Long Beach after a couple of recommendations to do so. Glad I did. Atmosphere was nothing short of perfect. Lots of people scattered around but plenty of places still to sit. Service was great with both bartenders very accomodating. Met a nice local at the bar who was friendly and offered some good recommendations. Food was good. Ordered a Roma pizza and couldn't finish it all. Got a take home box for tomorrow's breakfast. Beer selection was long and extensive. I only ordered a couple of brews from Pizza Port. Had a $3 pale ale pint on special. Overall my bill came to a little over $20. Not bad for 2 beers and a pizza.
Excellent place to visit and glad to have checked it out.

This place is much larger than the Solana Beach place. Same great pizza. Same system of buying your pizza and then finding a place to sit on your own. Just keep an eye and ear out for your pizza. After ordering, we went out to the beer festival next door and when my gf went back to get the pizza, apparently some thief had come by and claimed to be the bf picking up the pizza. The Pizzaport guy was good about it, and made up a quick pizza for us.
This place felt like it was even more packed. Nice high ceiling makes it less stuffy than Solana Beach. Locals seemed a bit friendlier.
They've got parking lot next door that they use for the beer festivals. And I guess they store a lot of bottled beer there too for distribution or whatever.

This place is great. Pizza, amazing beer, old school video games, an outdoor patio, and an awesome bottle shop next door. What more do you need?
Huge beer selection. Lots of great Port taps and many great guest taps. You can spend a week here and not try everything. High praise for the beer selection at this spot.
Pizza was very good and having multiple beers along with the pizza did not hurt.
Crowd was great every time I've gone. A lot of families, along with groups of serious craft beer drinkers. Nice mix. Service is very good, very efficient. Like the way they have it set up with food and beer lines separated.
Absolutely make it over here if you are in the area. Wish I could go more than once a year!

Was here on vacation a few months ago. We walked in and they were running old school surf movies on the tube(a good sign). Picnic tables are in the middle and the bar runs down one side. This place rocks, had a super selection of their own brews, plus local socal favorites. I loved their Franks, hopsack, and wipeout ipa. They also had a very passable kriek which they use like 250 lbs. of cherries to make! Pizza was delicious and their wings are great. You pick up your own food and grab beers at the bar if you have a table... I loved the casual attitude here.
