My mom of all people recommended this to me. Go figure.

Anyway, it pours a deeep dark black (beautiful), with a soft tan head that dissipates fairly quickly.

It smells tasty, roasty and round, very few surprises. Pretty much what you would expect from this style

rolling it around my tongue, it was smoother than expected, with a malty dominance. I keep wanting to say cocoa butter, but it's not exceptionally creamy nor oily, but for some reason it makes me think of Sheas. don't ask. Roasty and felt just about right mid december curled up in a cozy chair by the fire (aka exactly where I consumed it. While trying to keep a dog from eating a turtle, but that's neither here nor there)

Only had one bottle so I had to split it with my brother who woke up as we got home. Drinking 11 oz was easy and I would imagine that finishing the bottle would have been just as much so. Would consider buying again, it's pretty tasty and a respectable entry into the style. Not life changing, but definitely enjoyable.

Poured from 750mL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: black, light-impenetrable body with a thick finger of rich tan foam with decent retention and an attractive lacing. A nice looking stout.

Smell: sweet, lightly chocolatey aroma with a bit of acidity and a hint of vegetal hops. Mostly clean, but a bit on the mild side.

Taste: lightly sweet with a nice chocolatey flavor and a light vegetal hoppiness. There is a good malt complexity here, though, with some toffee and dates. There's a little more acidity than I normally like, but the depth of flavor really makes up for this.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and a pretty good creaminess. Not bad at all.

Overall: I like this beer. It's got an interesting complexity and, while it is not perfect, is a solidly drinkable stout.

Brown pour. Looks lighter in color than most stouts, even milk stouts. Thin beige head on it. Average lacing.

Aroma was mild. Reach for it and you can smell caramel, chocolate roasted malt.

Substantial roasted malt in the flavor. A milk stout? Didn't taste like it. Isn't it supposed to have a small lactose character and not a harsh bitterness? Too much bittering hops and burnt malt not in proportion to the rest of the malt bill. Cocao like flavor, dry, mild chocolate implications, but it seems like they really burned the hell out of the chocolate malt here. Bitter, metallic, thin. Needs some heft. No aspect is terrible tasting, but it is average at best. Too much carbonation. Too much of everything that should not be in a milk stout.

This one seems to be getting harder and harder to find, had my first one back in the 90s I believe. College.

Poured from a 1-pint, 9.4oz standard pressure-cap bottle into a pint glass in high elevation Libby, Mont. Best by - July 13, 2014. Reviewed live.

A- Half-finger mocha head with decent retention. Pitch-black colored body. No light even peeks around the edges. Little bit of a clinging lacing around the edge.

S- Fruity, chocolate malts and sweet creaminess. More dark fruits than I was expecting. Modest, but appealing aroma.

T- Bittersweet. Has dark fruits, little roast flavor and chocolate but also some of that cream, milkiness. Not bad, surprisingly dark, very roasty.

M- Thick, heavy carbonation and a syrupy feel at the end. Semi-dry.

O- This beer is hovering around average. Not bad, but surprising it made Australia's top-50 beers.

I found this to be a very good stout but not great, somewhat characterful with a good, firm stout quality, but not very complex and just a tad rough.

Black, it has a medium, long-lasting, creamy tan head slowly shrinking to foamy ring and leaving a few wisps of lace.

Aroma is wet soil, alcohol soaked raisins and prunes, faintly burnt.

Taste is vodka-soaked prunes, strong toastiness, dry peppery-roasty finish, light coffee candy element, especially in aftertaste, light sweetness, very light bitterness.

Bottle: light brown bottle, shithouse cheap-looking label. Okay only as it's macro.

Appearance: very dark, almost black in colour. Head is tan with good lacing and retention. Definitely inviting!

Aroma: a spicy bite of roasted chocolate and coffee, along with some spices - star anise and pepper.

Taste: I'm getting mainly those roasted malts with a light backing of hops and spices. A fantastic combination to be sure.

Aftertaste: this one lasts a while in the mouth. No new flavours, but a good, decent while savouring those flavours.

Mouth feel: quite a thin stout - seems like a stout / dark ale combination. Still, a wonderful beer with a moderate carbonation that carrie the flavours.

Overall: for a stout, this is a bloody good price (AU$49 a case - 2012). And a good stout, to be honest. Very nice stout, a bit lighter than the usual though. I would loooove to try this on tap. If anyone has it!!
